A SIXFOLD CALL TO ACTION
INTRODUCTION
Many see storm clouds on the horizon, clouds that will bring trials and tribulation unlike any you and I have seen.
If we take no action or the wrong action, we will not help ourselves in this life or the life to come.
In the Letter to the Hebrews we Jesus is seated at the right hand of God after having made purification for our sins (Heb 1:1-4). In the 11th chapter, we see the great honor roll of faith. Then in chapter 12, we are urged, to “lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God (Heb 12:1-2).
WE DISCOVER A SIXFOLD CALL TO ACTION THE EPISTLE
1. Let us fear the sin which so easily besets us (4:1-13; 3:1-13)
2. Let us hold fast to the anchor of the soul (4:14-16; 6:13-20)
3. Let us go on to maturity (6:1-8)
4. Let us draw near in full assurance of faith (10:19-31)
5. Let us run unencumbered (12:1-2)
6. Let us worship God in reverence and awe (12:25-13:16)
CONCLUSION
If you every attended a summer Bible camp, you probably sang the song, “You Can’t Get to Heaven.” One verse said, “You can’t get to heaven in a rocking chair.” Innovative youngsters—or their camp counselors—added verse after verse. The author of the Epistle to the Hebrew, would surely agree.
