Summary: The story of Elijah is a great example of prayer. This is an unfinished sermon.

Something New Is Coming

1 Kings 18:41-46 NLT

41 Then Elijah said to Ahab, “Go get something to eat and drink, for I hear a mighty rainstorm coming!” 42 So Ahab went to eat and drink. But Elijah climbed to the top of Mount Carmel and bowed low to the ground and prayed with his face between his knees. 43 Then he said to his servant, “Go and look out toward the sea.” The servant went and looked, then returned to Elijah and said, “I didn’t see anything.” Seven times Elijah told him to go and look. 44 Finally the seventh time, his servant told him, “I saw a little cloud about the size of a man’s hand rising from the sea.” Then Elijah shouted, “Hurry to Ahab and tell him, ‘Climb into your chariot and go back home. If you don’t hurry, the rain will stop you!’” 45 And soon the sky was black with clouds. A heavy wind brought a terrific rainstorm, and Ahab left quickly for Jezreel. 46 Then the Lord gave special strength to Elijah. He tucked his cloak into his belt and ran ahead of Ahab’s chariot all the way to the entrance of Jezreel.

As we exit the month of January and the season of sowing that we have been in for the past twenty-one days God is calling us to listen.

Lift up your eyes and behold the fields are white already to harvest. The disciples were not looking for a harvest in the Samaritan village. Often God is doing things in the lives of those around us that we do not realize that He is doing. As we enter harvest time, it is important that we tune in.

Rhoda was tuned in, but she needed to open the door. The church wanted to

The tremendous potential of the Laodicean church. Behold, I stand at the door and knock.

1. Attend God's Voice

1 Kings 18:41 NLT

Then Elijah said to Ahab, “Go get something to eat and drink, for I hear a mighty rainstorm coming!”

Humanity was made to hear the Voice of God. The first human couple Adam heard God calling as He walked in the garden (Gen .

Noah heard things from God that no one had seen (Hebrews 11:7).

Elijah heard what he could not see. Elijah heard what others could not see.

Direct your attention to God.

God invited the churches in Revelation to hear what the Spirit is saying to the church. The tremendous potential of the Laodicean church. Behold, I stand at the door and knock.

The church is a prophetic community.

God is calling every person in this church to be a listener.

2. Apply God's Method

1 Kings 18:42 NLT

So Ahab went to eat and drink.

Ask, Seek, Knock

PUSH. Pray until something happens.

Periodic petitionary prayer is the safeguard of hope. We can modify our hope as long as we are still in communion with the Giver of Hope.

Watch and pray. Elijah sent his servant to look. We must learn to look for the answer to what we are praying for.

We must keep looking as we pray until the answer comes.

3. Accept God's Answer

1 Kings 18:44-46

"Finally the seventh time, his servant told him, “I saw a little cloud about the size of a man’s hand rising from the sea.” Then Elijah shouted, “Hurry to Ahab and tell him, ‘Climb into your chariot and go back home. If you don’t hurry, the rain will stop you!’” 45 And soon the sky was black with clouds. A heavy wind brought a terrific rainstorm, and Ahab left quickly for Jezreel. 46 Then the Lord gave special strength to Elijah. He tucked his cloak into his belt and ran ahead of Ahab’s chariot all the way to the entrance of Jezreel."

God's answer comes in the small things. There are forests in seeds.

His answer to a harvest comes in the form of a tiny seed. His salvation came as a an infant.

Don't despise the day of small things.

There was a cloud the size of a man's hand. There are many factors that go into the formation

Revival comes in the form of that one person that you teach a Bible Study to.

Look for it.

Application

We have some cardstock. I have asked you throughout the past 21 days to think about a prayer request that you would like to put before the Lord this year.
