He’s On My Side.
John 6:37ESV
Everything that Thomas Goodwin and John Owen were—well educated, analytical, at home in the worlds best universities—
John Bunyan wasn't. Bunyan was poor and uneducated. By the world standards, everything was against Bunyan making a lasting impact on human history.
And this is just how the Lord delights to work, taking the sidelined and the overlooked and giving them quietly-pivotal-roles in the unfolding of redemptive history.
Bunyan is most famous for the Pilgrims Progress, which is, besides the Bible, history's best selling book. He also authored 57 other books one of the loveliest is, Come and Welcome to Jesus Christ, written in 1678.
Bunyan took a single verse and wrote a whole book on it, reflecting on it at length. The verse for Come and Welcome to Jesus Christ, written in 1678.
John 6:37ESV All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.
KJV—No wise…
When I hear the words of Jesus, my interest ought to perk-up. Notice the word, all.
Again, John 6:37AMP All that My Father gives Me will come to Me; and the one who comes to Me I will most certainly not cast out [I will never, never reject anyone who follows Me].
Look once more, Jesus say’s, All…not most. Bunyan writes, Once the Father sets his loving gaze on a wandering sinner, that sinners rescue is certain.
In John 6, Jesus proclaims He’s all the bread and water anyone would ever need.
Howard’s interpretation—When I seek God and go after Him, He promises to provide for everything that is inferior to Him. Earthly.
Jesus stated in, Matthew 6:33TPT “So above all, constantly seek God’s kingdom and his righteousness, then all these less important things will be given to you abundantly.
Again, Jesus promises to provide for the inferior. The earthly. The less important.
British preacher Charles Spurgeon 1834-1892 loved to tell about his grandfather, a minister, who was very poor. The one cow he owned had died, and his 10 children were without milk. His wife asked, “what will we do now?’ ‘I cannot tell,’ he said, “but I know what God will do. We must have milk for the children, and He will provide for us. The next morning a man brought Spurgeon's grandfather a gift of 20 pounds from the ministers relief fund, even though help had not been requested. A few days before, the relief committee had divided the funds for distribution and an amount of 5 pounds was left over. One of the members said, “There is poor Mr. Spurgeon down the road, Suppose we send it to him.” Another man said, Make it 15 pounds. Another man added five more pounds. Those men knew nothing about Spurgeon’s cow, but God knew.
In John 10:10, Jesus promises abundant life—greater than the norm, over and above the ordinary. Excellent, lovely, praiseworthy, and everlasting, A good report.
Once more, Jesus states in John 6:37b…He will in no wise cast out—never reject!
Jesus sees the big picture—The apostle Paul gives us that big picture about your life, just listen. Ephesians 2:10TPT We have become His poetry, a re-created people that will fulfill the destiny He has given each of us, for we are joined to Jesus, the Anointed One. Even before we were born, God planned in advance our destiny and the good works we would do to fulfill it!
If you’re a believer—God’s plan will be fulfilled in your life.
Again, John 6, Vs. 37. I will in no wise cast out.
You Say—But I am a great sinner, say you. I will in no wise cast out, says Christ. But I am an old sinner, say you. I will in no wise cast out, says Christ. But I am a hard-hearted sinner, say you. I will in no wise cast out, says Christ. But I am a backsliding sinner say you. I will in no wise cast out, says Christ. But I have served Satan all my days, say you. I will in no wise cast out, says Christ. Well I have sinned against Light, Say you. I will in no wise cast out, says Christ. But I have sinned against mercy, say you. I will in no wise cast out, says Christ. But I have no good thing to bring with me, say you. I will in no wise cast out, says Christ.
This promise given by Jesus was provided to answer all objections, and it does.
Get this in your spirit—When we have the audacity to think that Jesus can't forgive your sins, whatever they may be, We say, but…but…..He say’s, “I will in no wise cast out!”
Jesus says come to me. I will embrace you into my deepest being and never let you go.
Psalm 63:8TPT With passion I pursue and cling to you. Because I feel your grip on my life, I keep my soul close to your heart.
KJV. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.
“God’s got a mighty grip, He’s never lost one of His children.” P.H
Have you considered what is true of you if you are in Christ? In order for you to fall short of loving embrace into the heart of Jesus Christ both now and into eternity, Christ Himself would have to be pulled down out of heaven and put back in the grave.
It's time to raise your objectives. None can threaten these invincible words, “Whoever comes to Me I will never cast out.”
Please hear this—There is an endless supply of all that man can need—pardon, absolution, mercy, grace, peace, rest, relief, comfort, and hope. It is His office to receive sinners; It is His pleasure to give them pardon, life and peace.
Paul wrote in, Romans 5:20KJV Moreover the law entered, that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
Romans 5:20TPT So then, the law was introduced into God’s plan to bring the reality of human sinfulness out of hiding. And yet, wherever sin increased, there was more than enough of God’s grace to triumph all the more!
No matter what you have done or didn’t do, there’s more grace! P.H
For those who do not belong to Him, sins invoke holy wrath. How could a morally serious God respond otherwise? However, for those who do belong to Him, sins evoke Holy longing, Holy love, Holy laughter, Holy dance……Holy tenderness.]
There are some key verses for Divine holiness, and there found in, Isaiah 6:1-8NKJV In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. 2 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!” 4 And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke. 5 So I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts.”
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth with it, and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; Your iniquity is taken away,
And your sin purged.” 8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”
Notice, how holiness flows naturally, and immediately into forgiveness and mercy.
If you are part of Christ own body, your sins evoke His deepest heart, with His compassion and pity. He takes part with you—that is, He's on your side. He sides with you against your sin, not against you, because of your sin. He hates sin—But He loves you.
When we consider the hatred a father has against a terrible disease affecting his child, the father hates the disease while loving his child.
Indeed, at some level the presence of the disease draws out his heart to his child all the more.
The Bible clearly teaches that our sins draw out the discipline of Christ. OT—Priest stay clear of all sin. However, NT—Jesus comes near. Closer, He helps His investment!
Hebrews 12:3-8TPT So consider carefully how Jesus faced such intense opposition from sinners who opposed their own souls, so that you won’t become worn down and cave in under life’s pressures. 4 After all, you have not yet reached the point of sweating blood in your opposition to sin. 5 And have you forgotten his encouraging words spoken to you as his children? He said, “My child, don’t underestimate the value of the discipline and training of the Lord God, or get depressed when he has to correct you. 6 For the Lord’s training of your life is the evidence of his faithful love. And when he draws you to himself, it proves you are his delightful child.”7 Fully embrace God’s correction as part of your training, for he is doing what any loving father does for his children. For who has ever heard of a child who never had to be corrected? 8 We all should welcome God’s discipline as the validation of authentic Sonship. For if we have never once endured his correction it only proves we are strangers and not sons.
The Scriptures are a reflection of the great heart of Jesus for us. When a body part has been injured, it requires the pain and labor of physical therapy. But that physical therapy is not punishment; it is intended to bring healing. It hurts to move through the pain and or, stiffness. However, as you do healing comes forth!
Romans 8:33-34TPT Who then would dare to accuse those whom God has chosen in love to be his? God himself is the judge who has issued his final verdict over them—“Not guilty!” 34 Who then is left to condemn us? Certainly not Jesus, the Anointed One! For he gave his life for us, and even more than that, he has conquered death and is now risen, exalted, and enthroned by God at his right hand. So how could he possibly condemn us since he is continually praying for our triumph?
Not only does the Holy Spirit pray for us, so does Jesus Christ. Two divine intercessors are praying for you each day. Two-thirds of the Trinity are actively engaged in intercession for us.
Remember the incident of Moses interceding on the mountain for Israel’s victory with one hand held high by Aaron (the high priest, a type of Jesus, our High Priest), and Hur (or “light,” a metaphor for the Holy Spirit, who prays with divine illumination for our good.
Again, Jesus on one side, and the Holy Spirt on the other side—lifting your hands.
I Close with this powerful scripture: Hebrews 7:25TPT So He is able to save fully from now throughout eternity, everyone who comes to God through Him, because He lives to pray continually for them.
Jesus perseveres—He’s does life with you over the long haul. He prays even harder when you go your own way, or do your own thing.
I can't go too deep this morning, but just as Jesus’ atonement accomplished your salvation; intercession is the moment-by-moment application of that atoning work. It's where the rubber hits the road.
As Jesus prays, your life unfolds!
Reminder, You have the fullness of the Trinity on your side!
Benediction.
