Solomon said, "There is nothing new underneath the sun . . . "(Ecc.1:9) However with the believer/Christian there is as the scriptures tell us. 2 Corinthians 5:17 "We are a new creation, the old has passed away."
Eph. 4:24 says "Putting off the old self and putting on the new." 1 Peter 2:2 says, "As newborn babes..." We are created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness." Ezekiel 36:26 God will give us a New heart and a new Spirit."
Jeremiah 31:31 says, We will be given a New covenant as God brings it into being." Isaiah 65:17 says, "We will given a new heaven and a new earth." Jesus talked about not putting old wine into new wineskins (Matt 9:17) And Jesus spoke about the new covenant in his blood that was poured out by his blood." (Luke 22:20)
John spoke about a new commandment of loving each other. In Revelation 21 he speaks about a NEW Jerusalem. It's all new as God wants everything new for the one who believes and obeys God.
When Lindsey Clegg sold his warehouse property in London, it had been empty, and with broken windows and trash scattered throughout. He said to the new owner, he would clean it out to be a little respectful. But the new owner said "NO WAY, I do not want the building, I just want the property so can rebuild it again!! I will tear down and make it ALL NEW! "
That is what God wants with us! TO BUILD ANEW -- a new heart and new spirit, a new love, a new song and anew destination -- HEAVEN ! When HE gives to us His NEW SPIRIT - it is full of love, peace and joy, and kindness and faithfulness and goodness and self control!
In summary, God has performed spiritual surgery without the help of human hands. (Colossians 2:11-15) He has sealed us with the Holy Spirit, He has made us alive (new); He has raised us in Christ Jesus; He has forgiven us as He has put off our sins.
CONCLUSION: The Lord wants to give us new mercy everyday in our lives. It is His mercy that has sustained and protected us so far. The Lord delivers us from destruction and crowns us with lovingkindness and tender mercies. He is merciful to our sins and iniquities and forgives all our transgressions . We need not keep carrying the load of guilt of our past sins and failures. We can receive the mercy of the Lord and the forgiveness of all our sins and we can face our future with complete confidence.
LAMENTATIONS 3:22-23 Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.
