Sermon- Veterans Day 2020
- We celebrated Veterans Day Wednesday. I was thinking about what it means for
us to have had our veterans who willingly serve, & served our country.
- The freedom that we have today. Came from what they were willing to do for us.
- Let’s open our Bibles to Romans 5:1-6, & continue to show our appreciation.
Romans 5:1-6
[1] Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
[2] By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
[3] And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
[4] And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
[5] And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
[6] For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
- There is a value to every thing that we have.
Q- Do we see the value in what we have achieved, or been given.
- We have been given grace, & from that grace we have every opportunity to
grow.
- Hmm. That sounds a lot like what our veterans have done for us.
- They have given us freedom to live a great & productive life!
- Think about God’s great design, & let’s pray.
Prayer
- As Americans we hold up this American flag to symbolize that we are these 50 free
states. We were established on the backs of fearless leaders, & the hearts of the
valiant Soldiers.
- Wednesday was set aside for this, but in this day, Veterans we salute you!
- For us Christians, we hold up this cross. It is through this symbol, a symbol of an
empty cross, & an empty tomb. We are founded in a Kingdom that has no end.
- In the middle of this pandemic, in the middle of persecution throughout this world,
& against the pushback from disbelievers. This cross, & empty tomb still
remains.
- It doesn’t matter what people may take from us, or inflict upon us. They will
never place Jesus upon that cross again,
Hebrews 9:28
28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
- He was offered once!
- No one can place Him in that tomb again.
Romans 6:9
9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
- We carry these truths with us, & we grow from them.
- We look up at the flag, & it helps us celebrate/remember this country was bought by
the great number of lives that said I will stand up!
- Their lives we’re not in vain, because we will stand up for what we have been
given.
2 Corinthians 9:13-15
13 Whiles by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution unto them, and unto all men;
14 And by their prayer for you, which long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you.
15 Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.
- Through Christ, we have a glimpse of what eternal freedom looks like. It’s what we
stand for.
- It is a place in that our patience, experience, & hope have come together, are
complete.
Hebrews 4:9-12
9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
- So many of our veterans have finished their race. They fought their battle, & have
entered their rest. We reap the spoils from their great work, but the task isn’t
finished.
- The mantle, the position of work is given to us.
- We have been given this sword of the Spirit, the Word of God, & this shield of
righteousness. It is our turn to be valiant, & stand for the freedom we live in.
- Yes Jesus won the battle, & laid down His life for us, but does that mean we
just sit on our hands & do nothing?
- No! We are going to stand up for Him, & shout the victory!
Matthew 10:27-28
27 What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.
28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
- Shout It from the housetops!
- It’s like the flag, our symbol. We proudly fly it, & will not take it down.
- We are redeemed, & we cannot be taken down.
- After we have fought, & lived in this day. Then we will enter the rest that God entered,
& be at peace forever.
- I know our veterans each had a vision of what peace looks like, after the battle.
- Right now, think about this life.
Q- Is there peace?
- No. Jesus won the war, but the battle for souls is still raging, & countless lives are
being lost to the enemy.
- Let’s get into this battle, & change the direction of this war.
- I know that you’re thinking it’s not our job to get people saved.
- You’re right, it’s not our job to save people. Only Christ can do that.
Q- What If it is your JOB to present this message, the Gospel, to someone?
- Jesus uses us all for His Glory.
- I was thinking how simple it is now in this pandemic. It’s as simple as forwarding
this message to someone else, or liking/subscribing to a minister’s YouTube
channel.
- Then more people are reached, & they learn Jesus died for their sins. He took
the death we each deserve, & died. They get to hear that He didn’t stay in that
tomb, but arose after three days, & then ascended back up to heaven & is
seated by the right hand of the Father. If you just trust, & believe that He did
that for you, you can be saved.
- We are living in the most amazing of times, but Jesus is talked about less & less.
Q- Where’s the victory, if nobody will celebrate the win?
- As I close, Let’s celebrate our veterans, & celebrate our victory in Jesus.
- Let’s live this life in the freedom, & Grace we have been given.
Prayer
Let’s sing now “There's a land that is fairer than day,”
