TRUSTING THE MUSTARD SEED OF FAITH
By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com (Series on seeds)
I have little medicine baggies (from Walmart or Hobby Lobby) I have randomly placed 10 seeds, bean, corn, mustard, tomato, flower, etc. seeds in each bag. As an attention getter I have DONUT SEEDS, really cheerio’s. I explain the story of the good seeds and tares. Somebody might have taken the donut seeds and placed cheerios in the small bag of seeds?
THE POWER OF A SEED? Recorded in Matthew 13, Matthew 17, Mark 4, Luke 13, and Luke 17.
I have been a pastor 39+ years. (31 here.) I often stand peering and praying out the glass doors of the door and I dream of what could be. Many times I ask God to send me finished wood to build the church. (Workers that are ready to plow and sow seeds and reap the harvest.) I was sitting in a metal chair at the doors, praying for more helpers. All of a sudden Jesus was before me and said: I HAVE HEARD YOUR PRAYERS, I BRING A GIFT TO YOU. HE REACHED HIS HAND BEFORE ME AND GAVE ME 5 OR 6 ACORNS! I said: ACORNS? I DON’T WANT ACORNS, I WANT FINISHED LUMBER IN LARGE AMOUNTS TO GROW YOUR CHURCH. Jesus just looked at me and left me sitting there with 5 OR 6 ACORNS… I knew Jesus was saying: TRUST ME, WITH TIME THE HARVEST WILL COME. DON’T BE COUNTING WHAT YOU ARE REAPING TODAY RATHER COUNT THE SEEDS YOU ARE PLANTING. YOU MUST PLANT TO REAP. Seems everyone wants to reap. Few want to sew, water and nurture people.
YOU CAN COUNT THE SEEDS IN AN APPLE… BUT ONLY GOD CAN COUNT THE APPLES THAT ARE IN A SEED!
I read a poem where the robin and a sparrow had been singing all morning. The two birds got into a discussion as they watched the humans. The robin was talking to the sparrow and said: “I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THEM HUMANS ARE SO WORRIED? They are so busy running around in a deep depression and are having panic attacks, what is wrong with them? The sparrow answered the robin: Well, they must not have a HEAVENLY FATHER TO TAKE CARE OF THEM LIKE WE DO? (Elizabeth Cheney)
John 12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. 25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
A seed has a protective coat. But we know the seed has to “AWAKEN.” We call that germination. The seed must know the cold, damp ground… then the warmth of the sun starts shining down.
GOD BUILT HIS SYSTEM ON THE VALUE OF THE SEED. THIS LITTLE BAG OF SEEDS ARE SLEEPING POWER? WE PLANT SEEDS BY FAITH. THE SOWING PRODUCES THE HARVEST.
IT IS GOOD: MISERY MUST ALWAYS FALL IN FRONT OF MERCY… ALL LIFE STARTS AS A SEED… AND SEEDS PRODUCES LIFE, LIFE ENDS WITH DEATH OR DORMANCY … THAT DEATH BRINGS FORTH LIFE.
I have always been in great awe of seeds. That little acorns holds the blue print for a mighty oak. I have also learned that the sickly oaks from sickly acorns grow. God’s kingdom is built on the law of the seed… SOW then REAP.
Genesis 1:11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
WE HAD A TRUTH AT OUR HOUSE: NEVER EAT THE SEED CORN…
As a child we grew huge gardens. We would can and freeze and store the harvest for food for the winter. Dad would always save some of the prettiest seeds for the next year. Dad would store the seeds in quart jars to keep them dry and ready for spring. WE HAD A RULE: NEVER EAT THE SEEDS FOR NEXT YEAR.
We must do more than plow the ground… fertilize the ground… we must plant the seeds… and BY FAITH WE MUST WATER THE SEEDS. We must hate the weeds. Patience before the harvest.
You can only reap what you sow. You will reap in proportion of what you sow. NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF THE SEED.
HAGAR HAD PLANTED SOME BAD, MEAN, FLESHLY SEED… YET GOD’S MERCY IS EXTENDED… THE SEED LIVES.
*BEER-LAHAI-ROI--- THE WELL OF THE VISIBLE GOD--- THE SEED OF THE WEARY, HOPES AND DYING… Ishmael and Hagar were dying ,
Genesis 21:15 And the water was spent in the bottle, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs.
16 And she went, and sat her down over against him a good way off, as it were a bowshot: for she said, Let me not see the death of the child. And she sat over against him, and lift up her voice, and wept.
17 And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.
18 Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation.
JESUS LOVES YOU AND WANTS YOU TO SEE THE LAW OF THE SEED HAS A PLAN.
MY SEED IS SO LITTLE… THE MUSTARD SEED MAY BE LITTLE BUT IT GROWS AND SUPPORTS LIFE.
Mark 4:30 And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?
31 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:
32 But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.
Luke 13:19 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it.
SEEDS NEVER COMPARE THEMSELVES… A BEAN, A CORN, AN APPLE SEED, JUST BE WHO YOU ARE.
2 Corinthians 10:12 For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
There was a little boy spending time with his grandparents on the farm. He had a fear of the chickens. One day the lad was kicking his football and it accidently went over in the chicken lot. He decided to leave it there. The Old ROOSTER saw the football and was so amazed. He ran back to the hen house and called all the hens around the football. The ROOSTER started making demands. He was yelling and screaming at the hens. He demanded as of tomorrow you must lay all eggs the size of this BIG BROWN EGG HERE! You will no longer lay those little white eggs. Tomorrow you must start laying BIG BROWN EGGS. The ROOSTER walked away thinking how good a rooster he was! Old HENRIETTA looked at the size of that brown egg and passed out. When she came to she looked at that brown egg again and passed out again. The hens did not know what they were going to do? All the hens understood they were not capable of meeting the ROOSTER’S commands.
JUST DO YOUR BEST AND FORGET THE REST.
GOD’S SWEET SPIRIT PLANTED A SEED IN MARY’S WOMB.
There was trouble, doubt fear all around that seed. Mean men filled with hatred shoved that seed in the hard rock and on the THIRD DAY THE EASTER LILY CAME FORTH OUT OF THE COLD DAMP GROUND.
2 Corinthians 9:6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
2 Corinthians 9:10 Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)
CONCLUSION: GOD GIVES THE SEEDS… YOU HAVE A MEASURE OF SEED FAITH… YOUR MEASURE IS ENOUGH… TRUST THE SEED.
Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
I am told when a MAMA BEAR gives birth the baby is about the size of your thumb. It has no hair and looks awful. Just a little glob of flesh. The Momma licks the baby and guides it to the milk. The Momma licks and licks the baby glob of flesh and one day that hairless glob turns into a beautiful baby bear. Give God your seed and trust the DIVINE PLAN. The SON is coming up and the harvest is sure.
