Sermon- Singing Soul
- As we’re walking the journey of this life there are so many moments that produce the
feeling of a sinking soul, in which we have to lean on the Lord.
- Then we walk the path of a satisfied soul as we are helped, assured, comforted, &
guided by the Lord.
- Once again, God’s answer to Jesus’ prayer was no, but Jesus was satisfied to do the
will of the Father.
- So our walk continues. It’s a walk of learning, change, & even adventure.
- Scripture says, Enoch walked with God & was not. His adventure has taken him to a
place that only one other living person has went.
- That was Elijah.
- Both of these men were close to God, & God rewarded them, as well as will use
them greatly.
- So today’s message comes from the perspective of the Christian who was rescued, &
walks close to God now.
- We walk with a singing Soul.
Psalm 63:5
5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:
- As the hymn says, we shout the victory!
- As we go into prayer this morning, Think of your blessings, you’re alive, & you’re
here.
- Troubles remind us God’s not through with us, because we’re still alive.
- Pain reminds us we’re alive.
- Sickness shows us that, like sin, this too shall pass.
- In every part or function of our lives, whether they be good or bad, they can be seen as
this points to my victory in Christ.
- Their reason is the bad shall pass away, & the good shall remain.
Prayer
> You Can’t Sing
(Author unknown - https://www.5jokesaday.com/content/singing-jokes)
A church had a man in the choir who couldn't sing. Several people hinted to him that he could serve in other places, but he continued to come to the choir. The choir director became desperate and went to the pastor.
"You've got to get that man out of the choir," he said. "If you don't, I'm going to resign. The choir members are going to quit too. Please do something."
So the pastor went to the man and suggested, "Perhaps you should leave the choir."
"Why should I get out of the choir?" he asked.
"Well, five or six people have told me you can't sing."
"That's nothing," the man snorted. "Fifty people have told me that you can't preach!"
- When it comes to being a Christian we have a reason to sing, or make a joyful noise.
- Without Christ we would suffer for eternity, where just a drop of water would be of
great value.
- Without Christ we would never know the God who made us, or walk the streets of gold
where no trouble resides.
- We are no longer slaves to sin!
- We have been set free!
- The freedom we enjoy isn’t the fact that we don’t suffer or fall under a certain sin,
because we do.
- There is not a person alive today that does not sin.
Q- Does the sin overpower us & destroy us?
- No! We have power, the ability to overcome Sin, because Jesus(the power) resides
in us.
- The greatest freedom we enjoy is that, we will not suffer the death we deserve
because of sin!
- I know that when we’re thinking about sin, we try to make it seem like we’re Christians,
& we don’t sin.
- We try not to sin, but it is only in Christ’s power that we have victory over sin.
Q- Do you know where that power comes from?
- From His Spirit.
- In the moment we accept Christ as our savior we receive, & we are sealed by, His
Spirit.
Ephesians 1:13
13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
- This is a turning point in our walk, because we can sing the victory like Miriam, Moses’
sister did, or we can limit the working of the Spirit.
- Listen, He’s There whether you realize it or not.
- You’re either walking with Him, or grieving Him.
- What God wants us to do is, sing. Walk with the Holy Spirit.
- Scripture calls it being filled with the Holy Spirit.
- It’s not some magical prayer you pray after you get saved.
- It’s a choice to follow the Spirit’s leading.
- Here’s the example,
- Simon Peter told Jesus he would not leave Him.
- That was Peter relying on his own strength.
- Then Peter denied knowing Jesus three times.
- After Jesus arose from the grave he went to Peter for one purpose, to ask him a
question.
John 21:15-17
15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
- Let me phrase the question this way,
Q- Would you sing Peter?
- Peter’s answer of I love Thee, is Peter’s walk, his song.
- After he received the Promise, the Spirit, he spoke at Pentecost, not denying Jesus,
& 3000 were led to Christ, followed by many more.
- Peter chose to continue to follow, because the Spirit (Christ) wanted him to.
Ephesians 5:18-21
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
- Paul expressed this again in Hebrews 10:25, where he says,
25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
- God wants us to sing, thrive, walk together glorifying His name.
- After we have been through the sinking moment, we’ve come to the satisfied moment
of understanding God’s will, & are journeying through this ever changing world we live
in, God wants us to draw near to Him.
Q- Where is He?
- He’s In me, & He’s in every other born again believer.
- The whole purpose of singing is to form a choir, & let this sound of rejoicing
drown out the wiles of this world.
- Miriam sang with the other women when they crossed the Red Sea.
- David danced as the Ark was carried into the city of David.
- The Israelites shouted & sang when Asa declared an oath that they all would follow
God, or be put to death.
- Paul & Silas sang loudly in jail, because they knew the Victor & His Will!
- The Israelites even shouted for joy when Jesus made His triumphal entry into Israel.
They knew the King was in their midsts!
- Being a Christian isn’t all about the quiet reserved people.
- I know that’s a lot coming from the quiet guy!
- Life is given to us to rejoice in the Lord.
- It’s our opportunity to change the deafening sounds of a fallen world, into the joyful
noise flowing from God’s temple.
- Let’s read one more set of scripture.
1 Thessalonians 5:17-24
17 Pray without ceasing.
18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
19 Quench not the Spirit.
20 Despise not prophesyings.
21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
- Once again Paul tells the church, talk to God, Pray!
- Worship Him, thank Him!
- Then, quench not the Spirit
- Let God move in you. Let’s not stifle the Spirit by our sin, cowardice, or inability.
- Let’s shout the victory, & shout here am I Lord, send me
- Let’s draw nearer to God’s Word, That’s prophecy
- & Let’s put away Evil.
- This morning God is seated up in heaven, & He’s waiting on us to make a joyful noise.
- Let’s not make Him turn His hearing aids up so that He can hear us.
- Let’s make a joyful noise in our invitation & in Our acts He performs through us
when we leave this place.
> A Joyful Noise (by Damien Saylor)
- I think the idea of making a joyful noise to the Lord is often misunderstood. We often think it means simply to sing, It’s not. When a lost soul walks down the aisle, & bows before the cross, All of Heaven sings/rejoices at that noise. The Fellowship of God’s family, enjoying each other’s company, that is a joyful noise as God says, I hear my family. As the words, Jesus is the savior is exclaimed to any that is lost, the Spirit is singing open the door of your heart, & I will come in. Not all of us might sing, but all of us can make a great, & beautiful noise to the Lord. My question is, what’s stopping the music?
- Our Soul May sink, but Christ can rescue us.
- We may be crushed, but still alive. Our Soul is Satisfied because we know His plans are
greater.
- Now, I will make my Soul Sing, because the world needs to hear what He has done.
- As I close, & open the invitation. If you’re finding no reason to rejoice let’s remember
those who had no reason too.
- Stephen, being stoned to death, & in his dying words said, lay not this sin to their
charge.
- He had no reason to rejoice, but God did!
- The joyful noise was ringing, & the Spirit was singing to Saul, in whom the
angry Jews cast their clothes at his feet.
- Stephen was stoned to death under Saul’s direction.
- From this moment, to the road to Damascus, Saul was walking with a sinking
soul getting ready to be redeemed.
- Think about the number of lives that have been introduced to Jesus, by Paul’s writings.
- I know God used Stephen for that purpose, & He uses us in ways we don’t see either.
- So Let’s rejoice in our Redeemer, let’s sing!
