No man can ever be a success without a successor. Paul had the to pass on the spiritual lessons he had learned. So Paul became the MENTOR, and he adopted a young man named Timothy to become a STUDENT and carry the message of Jesus to the next generation. The story of TIMOTHY IS BEAUTIFUL AS 3 GENERATIONS FOLLOWED WHOLE HEARTEDLY THE PLAN OF GOD… The Grandmother LOIS, the Mother EUNICE, and TIMOTHY.
SEEMS SOME PEOPLE CAN SHOUT AND NOT REALIZE GOD HAS DEPARTED.
We find many very sad stories of men of God that their children did not maintain a GODLY ATTITUDE. Eli had two sons, HOPHNI and PHINEHAS… His sons were evil and disrespectful of their Dad’s teachings. They cheated in taking the best offerings and they chased women. God warned ELI… both ELI and sons would die the same day. One day is a critical battle HOPHNI and PHINEHAS grabbed the ARK OF THE COVENANT and ran into battle. THE ARK WAS A TYPE THAT THE LORD IS WITH US…
1 Samuel 4:5 And when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again.
JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN SHOUT DOES NOT MEAN GOD IS WITH YOU.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO BE SO LUKEWARM YOU REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE YOU HAVE LEFT GOD AND NOT EVEN KNOW IT?
Samson flirted and flirted with sin and WIST NOT the Lord had departed?
Judges 16:20 And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.
PAUL HAS ONE LAST LESSON TO CHARGE TIMOTHY TO BE READY… PAUL LOVES TIMOTHY AS A SON. PAUL SEES THE POTENTIAL IN THIS YOUNG MAN AND STARTS TEACHING YOUNG TIMOTHY THE SIGNS OF THE TIME OF THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST JESUS.
2 Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
1. DON’T BE IGNORANT OR CAUGHT OFF GUARD. BE AWARE! Listen learn. Timothy you SHOULD KNOW THIS… Learn, apply, study to show yourself approved a workman unashamed of the Gospel.
WRITE THIS IN YOUR NOTES, PUT THIS IN YOUR HEART… MARK THIS… So many want to talk about the mark of the beast, that they cannot acknowledge they are already marked.
Job 10:14 If I sin, then thou markest me, and thou wilt not acquit me from mine iniquity.
We can’t allow a lukewarm spirit of the enemy rub our belly until we are so spiritual asleep that we are BLIND and PAYING A DEAR STUPID TAX. DO WE KNOW? CAN WE SEE JESUS IS COMING, ARE WE READY?
2. PERILOUS: THE LAST DAYS WILL BE TERRIBLE TIMES ARE AHEAD. At best the last days will be hard, difficult… RIGHT NOW…
There will not only be hard times, there will be hard people, cruel and mean. Godlessness WILL BECOME THE NORM
Matthew 24:22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.
PERILOUS: grave, hazardous, jeopardy, dangerous, risky, threatening. Great possibility of hurt, harm, or bad things happening. There will be a great probability that you will be injured, destroyed, in pain, or suffer great loss. DANGER, DANGER. Seems people will be exposed to be so vulnerable, easily wounded or harmed. (read Matthew 24:10)
3. I DESERVE MORE, BETTER… I WANT IT NOW. ADDICTED TO SELF, AND ALLERGIC TO GOD? LOVERS OF THEIR OWN SELVES… I hear Christians so absorbed in life that their GOAL IS TO BE HAPPY. We hear the whole world is a stage? TO YOUR OWN SELF BE TRUE? (What about being true to God and his word?) God bless us four and no more?
IF WE CAN READ THE SIGNS OF THE LAST DAYS WE WILL SEE PEOPLE SO BUSY IN SPORTS, COMPUTERS, GAMES IT WILL TURN INTO A DOG EAT DOG LIFESTYLE. Seems we will be SO IN LOVE WITH THE FLESH THAT WE WILL NOT GIVE, BUT HOARDING. Love of self will kill a giving heart. We will be so selfish that we will be cruel and thoughtless. People are going to be self-absorbed, money-hungry, self-promoting, stuck-up, profane, contemptuous of parents, crude, coarse.
WE WILL BE SO WRAPPED UP WE WILL BE IN PERSONAL DECEPTION. We will believe a lie and be damned.
2 Thessalonians 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
4. COVETOUS … GREEDY, to be envious, to not be satisfied with what you have, always desiring more, we call coveting the green eyed monster--- jealousy. bitter craving, greed for power, money, sex, gain. To begrudge others. Wish.
The sin of Achan, cost many soldiers lives. Israeli families with out a dad, cost Achan’s whole family and he watched them die…
Joshua 7:21 When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.
Painfully desirous, want something so much that you will take advantage of others…
5. BOASTERS, BRAGGART… to be assertive, demanding, loud mouth, show off attitudes, loud mouth, excessive pride, puffed up … blown up… ready to blow up… emotionally out of control, toot one’s own horn, success sheets, trophies.excessive pride, to praise self, drama queen, desirous of attention, spot light, Loud, arrogant.
6. PROUD, EGO, ID, SUPER EGO…high self-opinion, Ego trips, desire to be applauded, recognized, well pleased with self, CONCEITED, self-admired, excessive appreciation of self-worth.
7. BLASPHEMERS… to be against God, abusive, to pervert or turn aside from the proper usage, to lead astray, to talk profane, to abuse religion, curse, swear, damn, to use God’s name in vain, to pollute, to be irreverent, to focus on carnal things not eternal, to be dirty, unclean, filthy.
8. DISOBEDIENT TO PARENTS… PARRICIDE (kill both parents), Matricide (kill mother), Patricide ( kill dad). On the average about 5 parents are killed by their biological children a week in the USA. The average child killing a parent is 113 a year. About 82% one child does the killing. Often there are no warning signs. Often drugs are involved or a relationship. Often the parent death is because the parent had rules the child did not like the boundaries the parent set.
Often being stabbed many times is a release of negative emotions.
Let us not forget children shooting at school and suicide.
DYSFUNCTIONAL HOMES? Troubled homes, anger management, Failure to respect parents and rules. Rebellion, lack of submission, defiant, difficult, little to no appreciation, excusing and not being held responsible.
9. UNHOLY…no respect for God, evil, wicked, irreverent, ungodly, immoral, sinful, sacrilegious, hostile to church or religion, nothing is sacred, disregard for the Bible as God’s word,
10. WITHOUT NATURAL AFFECTION: TO TAKE THE NATURAL PLAN OF GOD AND MODIFY TO OUR OWN LIKING. Abortion 1.6 million a year, this is not natural. This would include paganism. Paul was warning us women, motherhood and the joy of children would be changed. This also includes homosexuality. (man-man, woman-woman) Today we have sexual confusion. Men desire to be women, women men, transsexuals, bi-sexual. Did not our God create us to be social beings? The family was the first social organization and the family has been re-defined, his, hers, ours?
I do not define right or wrong, but I absolutely agree with the truth of the Bible.
Romans 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.
Artificial, strange, weird, abnormal, deliberate perversion, willfully wrong.
11. TRUCE BREAKERS… NOT WILLING TO FOLLOW THE AGREEMENT, TO BE HOSTILE. Your words and vows are meaningless, not accepting contractual or legal agreements. Divorce while often necessary is a breech of contract.
12. FALSE ACCUSERS, UNFORGIVING: Remember when Potiphar’s wife accused Joseph? To lie and make false accusations about others.
To twisted and use ½ truths, tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. To distort facts. To exaggerate or stretch the truth. False evidence.
13. INCONTINENT: OUT OF CONTROL, DRIVEN BY ANGER, DRUNKEN, DRUGS, SEXUAL DESIRES, NO SELF-CONTROL, emotional dysfuntional, evoke desires, Wild, loose uninhibited desires, appetites control. Do I control my behavior or does my habitual behaviors control me. Confusion, lax.
14. FIERCE: aggressive, vehemently aggressive, violent, terrorism, brutal, pressing, hot anger, demanding, panic, anxiety, use force to manipulate, horror, fear.
15. DESPISERS OF THOSE THAT ARE GOOD… To look down on others, to elevate yourself, 30 years ago had the Lone Ranger, Zorro and Superman that helped with the right. Today preachers and law enforcement and judges are made to look ignorant and stupid. To hate or loathe good people. To call those trying to be right judgmental. Look at Boss Hogg and Roscoe P. Cotrain? Today being a virgin is a joke.
16. TRAITORS: Not being loyal, not being faithful, double crosser, Judas, turn coat, rebel, revolt, undermine authority, independent spirited, just split and do own thing, no submission, open mutiny, fight against leadership.
17. HEADY: ruled by the head, intoxicating, power seeking, potentate, bypass faith and turn to brain power, the desire to be elevated above others.
18. HIGH MINDED: elevate feelings, great opinion of self, loffy, high, materialism to place things and ideas above God. To see self as better than others. No black or white, 50 shades of gray, to feel superior, supremacy.
19. LOVERS OF PLEASURES: LUST, DESIRE, PASSIONATE DESIRE, joy and happiness as goals, seeking instant gratification goal to please 5 senses, HEDONISM the belief that the highest goal is human pleasure, HEATHENISM--- to not acknowledge the God of the Bible, irreligious, sexual perversion. Wrongful priorities, lip service, eye service.
21. FORM OF GODLINESS: Sensual, entertainment, eye please, emotional, making outward pretenses, to be so inclusive everything goes, have it your way, do your own thing, popularity of false teaching, write you own Bible the way you so desire it.
22. DENY THE POWER THEREOF: FROM SUCH TURN AWAY… form like jello, no faith, refuse the power of the Bible, to declare non-existent.
23. LEAD AWAY SILLY WOMEN THAT DO NOT KNOW THE TRUTH, THEY ACCEPT THE COUNTERFEIT. To distort truth so to make preaching for a profit.
24. EVER LEARNING BUT NEVER EVER TO COME TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF TRUTH. We are learning more and more about less and less until finally we know everything about nothing. Trivial pursue.
CONCLUSION: We must know the truth to identify the false. Paul was teaching his student how to see the signs of the time? Do we know them?
