Theme: To show how the Lord is a lifter of our heads in trouble.
Text: Psalms 3: 1- 8
Psalms 3:1-8
(1) A Psalm of David When He Fled from Absalom His Son. LORD, how they have increased who trouble me! Many are they who rise up against me. (2) Many are they who say of me, "There is no help for him in God." Selah
(3) But You, O LORD, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head. (4) I cried to the LORD with my voice, And He heard me from His holy hill. Selah
(5) I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the LORD sustained me. (6) I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me all around. (7) Arise, O LORD; Save me, O my God! For You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone; You have broken the teeth of the ungodly. (8) Salvation belongs to the LORD. Your blessing is upon Your people. Selah
Introduction
We told at the beginning of this Psalm why David wrote it. It was during the time that he fled from his son Absalom. The son who betrayed him even after David had forgiven him. After David had resorted his place in the kingdom. Absalom would stand at the gate as a wolf and deceive the people. Waiting on his opportunity to be king. Behind the back of David.
Then there was the trumpet call and the people gathered to crown Absalom king. For David this meant death so he ran for his life.
This was heavy on his heart. How betrayed he must have felt. Look with me again into Psalms 3
Listen to David’s lament
(1) LORD, how they have increased who trouble me! Many are they who rise up against me.
It was not just Absalom who betrayed him but the many who followed him. David, who led Israel through many victories, was now left to himself.
(2) Many are they who say of me, "There is no help for him in God." Selah
What a depressing place to be in. Sounds like Job.
Many were questioning God’s favor in David’s life. How could God have his back if the people are against him? The majority has turned their back. Maybe this is the sign.

A Shield for Me
"The Lord is my refuge and strength. A very present help in the time of trouble. Therefore, I will not fear, though the mountains give way and they fall in to the heart of the sea. There is a river that makes glad the city of our God." (Psa 46:1,2)
Promise of God
Isa 43:1-2 But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. (2) When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.
1 Corinthians_10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
Glory – weight, heaviness
The victor. My identity is in Christ.
We need to quit letting the enemy define us. We need to quit letting him tell us who we are.
John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:
Romans 6:6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
Lifter of My Head
Isa 40:31 But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

Confidence
(5) I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the LORD sustained me.
There were probably many sleepless nights until David understood these promises from the Lord.
(6) I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me all around.
(7) Arise, O LORD; Save me, O my God! For You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone; You have broken the teeth of the ungodly.
(8) Salvation belongs to the LORD. Your blessing is upon Your people. Selah
