Summary: This is the 18th sermon in the "Knowing God" series.

Series: Knowing God [#18]

AVIAD- EVERLASTING FATHER

Isaiah 9:6

Introduction:

As we continue studying the many names of God, I want us to look at the name Aviad; which means Everlasting Father. While I was preparing this sermon, it seemed odd preparing a sermon about naming a baby Everlasting Father. Jesus is God the Son, so how could He be the Everlasting Father?

Isaiah 9:6 (NIV)

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

The name Aviad tells us…

1. Jesus has a permanent relationship with us.

Something that all of our children are figuring out, is when you leave to go off to College and come back home, things are different when you get back. They have lost contact with the majority of people who were their friends in High School and they now have new friends. Most of our relationships aren’t permanent; but our relationship with Jesus is- It is everlasting.

Jesus’…

? Love is everlasting.

There is nothing that we can do that will cause Jesus to stop loving us. His love endures forever.

Jesus’…

? Covenant with us is everlasting.

When Jesus makes a promise, He keeps it.

Jesus’…

? Salvation for us is everlasting.

Our salvation is eternal. There is nothing or no one that can take away your salvation.

The name Aviad tells us…

2. Jesus has a paternal relationship with us.

Jesus…

? Gives life.

Jesus left a perfect Heaven, came to earth, and took the form of man so that He could pay our price of sin. He did this so that we could have eternal life.

Jesus…

? Gives counsel.

We always have someone we can go to for counsel. No matter what the problem is, Jesus cares.

Jesus…

? Loves us.

No matter what happens, Jesus never stops loving us. He died for us because He loves us so much.

Jesus…

? Protects us.

Jesus is our protector. He protects us from the enemy and He equips us for battle.

Conclusion:

You can have a powerful relationship with Him. If you aren’t pleased with your relationship with Jesus, that’s on you. You build a relationship with someone by spending time with them and getting to know them. Not only can you have a powerful relationship with Jesus; but Jesus wants to have a powerful relationship with you. The child that was born thousands of years ago has changed the world forever. I pray that He has changed your life.
