MICROWAVE SOCIETY: INSTANT, NOW --- VS --- WAIT
By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com
We have all heard the phrase: HASTE MAKES WASTE.
SELAH: the Hebrew word Selah true meaning is doubtful. Some say: silence, pause, others say: end, a louder strain
Like for music to play?
Selah is a Hebrew term, its meaning could be a Divine pause. Wait, rest, think about, ponder…
Somme think selah was a SIGNAL FOR WORSHIPPERS TO FALL PROSTRATE ON THE GROUND, or perhaps it was a term for people to call out in deep worship.
EXAMPLES:
Psalm 3:2 Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.
Psalm 3:4 I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.
Psalm 3:8 Salvation belongeth unto the LORD: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.
Psalm 32:7 Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.
Selah is found 74 times in the Bible. It is used often in the book of Psalms and the book of Hab. 3:9, 13.
Selah has something to do with a DIVINE PAUSE OR WAITING…
LIFE HAS A LOT OF WAIT…
Psalm 27:14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.
INSTANT: a short period of time, to come about quickly, to happen without delay, easy, rapid, with ease,
Pre-cooked, pre-mixed for easy final preparation, appearing in a ready to use form,
DELAY: something happens later than expected, the time you must wait, something happens later, longer time frame than expected, to take longer, postpone, hinder, slow,
WAIT: to stay in place until expected event happens, to remain in a state of expectation or hope, to remain ready, to hold back, to attend as a servant, hidden or concealed, AN ATTITUDE OF WATCHFULNESS AND EXPECTANCY,
Psalm 37:7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
Psalm 37:9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.
Psalm 37:34 Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.
GOD’S PLAN FOR US CARRIES A LOT OF WAIT. GOD’S PLAN OFTEN TIMES INCLUDES THE WAITING GAME…
There can be many reasons that God has us to wait.
Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
WHY IS THE PREACHER LATE? FOR SOME REASON GOD DELAYED THE PREACHER’S ARRIVAL 7 DAYS? WHY? WE MAY NOT UNDERSTAND BUT THERE ARE DIVINE REASONS BUT GOD USES TIME TO ACCOMPLISH HIS PLAN. DO WE UNDERSTAND DIVINE DELAYS CAN BE A TEST TO REVEAL OUR REAL NATURE?
1 Samuel 13:8 And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him.
GOD’S CALL MAY INVOLVE A WOE, BEFORE THE GO? WE PLAY THE WAITING GAME TO REVEAL OUR HEARTS.
GOD MAY CALL US TO WAIT AS A SEASON OF TESTING…
Saul refused to wait on the man of God. Saul took the authority that was not his to show how he need not WAIT?
1 Samuel 13:10 And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him. 11 And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at Michmash; 12 Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto the LORD: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering. 13 And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever. 14 But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.
AFTER SAUL’S DEMAND OF INSTANT CHURCH AND BYPASSING GOD’S INSTRUCTIONS, SAUL REFUSED TO ACCEPT THE WRONG HE HAD COMMITED Saul was so good at blaming others for his behavior.
I FORCED MYSELF?
Note the terrible cost of refusing to acknowledge HE FAILED THE WAITING GAME TEST.
THERE MAY BE ANOTHER REASON FOR SPIIRITUAL DELAY THAT WE CAN NOT UNDERSTAND…
DANIEL PRAYED AND IT SEEMED LIKE HIS PRAYERS WERE IN VAIN. THERE WAS NO ANSWERS. WHY?
God loved Daniel. Daniel passed the test before him.
DANIEL PRAYED 3 TIMES A DAY EVERY DAY. Daniel knew that God heard him, but one day Daniel prayed for a serious need and there SEEMED TO BE NO ANSWER? Was the heavens brass and the earth iron?
Daniel 10:12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. 13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
By FAITH we must trust that God hears our prayers. The very second Daniel heard and declared the word, God heard Daniel, but there was “A BATTLE IN THE ETERNALS” the enemy’s plan was to discourage Daniel by DELAYING THE PRAYER’S ANSWER.
The enemy could HINDER, but know this the enemy CAN NEVER STOP OUR PRAYER’S RESULTS.
JESUS YOU ARE 4 DAYS TOO LATE… NOW JESUS LOVED MARY, MARTHA AND LAZARUS…
John 11:6 When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.
Jesus and the boys heard Lazarus was sick. Jesus told them HE WAS GOING TO WAKE LAZARUS UP…
They thought if Lazarus is asleep he must be doing better?
John 11:21 Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
Why the delay?
IS JESUS 4 DAYS TOO LATE? OR BY TRUSTING JESSUS WE SEE THERE IS A PLAN!
John 11:15 And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.
Jesus looks like you missed it?
John 11:17 Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.
ASK ABRAHAM ABOUT WAITHING AND BUILDING FAITH? ABRAHAM WAITED 20 YEARS FOR THE PROMISE OF ISSAAC?
WHAT IS ONE MORE WAIT? KEEP ON WALKING SON!
WHERE IS THE LAMB, DADDY? GOD WILL PROVIDE THE LAMB…ABRAHAM
Genesis 22:7 (MSG) Isaac said to Abraham his father, "Father?" "Yes, my son." "We have flint and wood, but where's the sheep for the burnt offering?" 8 Abraham said, "Son, God will see to it that there's a sheep for the burnt offering." And they kept on walking together.
JOSEPH, I HAVE A DREAM: my brothers and my dad will bow before me…
Genesis 37:5 And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.
My dream never included hatred? The pit? The escape from the pit? To be sold? To Egypt? To slavery? To be accused falsely? To prison? TO THE PALACE?
17 LONG HARD YEARS, 17 YEARS OF WAITING…
17 YYEARS UNTIL THE BROTHERS ALL AGTHER AT JOSEPH’S TABLE AND EAT TOGETHER…
Genesis 45:5 Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.
17 YEARS AND THE DREAM COMES TRUE… HURRY UP AND WAIT?
Genesis 50:17 So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.
I BELIEV GOD --- NOW LET US LEARN TO WAIT UNTIL…
MY FRIEND, SOMETIMES WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE STORM PASSES OVER. WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE THUNDER SOUNDS NO MORE, WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE WINDS CEASE…. WHILE WE WAIT UNTIL THE STORM PASSES OVER
WE MUST DECLARE THE TRUTH. THE 14TH NIGHT IS COMING!!!
Acts 27:20 And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.
PAUL HAS TO GIVE HOPE WHEN THERE IS NO HOPE, WAIT UNTIL WE ALL DROWN?
Acts 27:22 And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you, but of the ship. 23 For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, 24 Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee. 25 Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.
CONCLUSION: My dear friend, DO WE BELIEVE GOD? FEAR NOT! BE OF GOOD CHEER! We must wait until God moves. Pray, wait, pray some more, wait some more… BE FAITHFUL AND WAIT UPON HE LORD. Be like bubble gum and stick to it until…
Luke 21:19 In your patience possess ye your souls.
Luke 21:19 (MSG) Staying with it—that's what is required. Stay with it to the end. You won't be sorry; you'll be saved.
