Summary: In John’s day and time, the logos becoming flesh wasn’t acceptable. However, Jesus Christ became the logos, the Word, and He dwelt among men.

The Alive and Active Word of God

John 1:1-5, 14NKJB

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Matthew says, “This is the Messiah, the King; worship Him.

Mark says, “This is the Servant who served humanity; follow Him.”

Luke says, “This is the only Man among men without sin; emulate Him.”

John says, “This is God in human flesh; believe in Him.”

The introduction to John chapter 1 is amazing. Around 500 BC, a Greek nobleman of Ephesus taught that the universe operates according to a rational structure, a unified ordering principle, which can be discerned if we carefully observe its patterns and solve its many riddles. Other philosophers, adopted this seminal idea and added their own doctrines, Even going so far as to describe the word as a divine animating life-giving, life moving principal permeating the universe. Jewish philosopher heavily influenced by Plato, taught that the logos (word) was God's creative principle in the realm of pure thought, which cannot have any direct association with anything in the tangible realm of matter.

Therefore, in John’s day and time, the logos becoming flesh wasn’t acceptable. However, Jesus Christ became the logos, the Word, and He dwelt among men.

John 1:1NLT In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Again, the word (Logos) is eternal, He had no beginning and He will have no end. In eternity past, before the beginning of anything–space, time, matter–in the indefinite expanse of timeless existence, in a beginning that had no beginning, the Word was existing in an eternal, infinite present.

Jeremiah 29:23NKJ “Is not My word like a fire?” says the Lord, “And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?

Listen to John 1:2NLT He existed in the beginning with God.

So a literal rendering of John 1:2 ~in the beginning, the Word was existing.

Why is this important? Because John carefully crafted these initial sentences to establish an essential truth. He chose his words carefully and arrange them precisely to leave no room for misunderstanding. Before any conceivable point in the eternal past, the Word was already existing.

This makes the ‘word’ supernatural, that’s why Hebrews 4:12-13AMP, Say’s, 12 For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And not a creature exists that is concealed from His sight, but all things are open and exposed, and revealed to the eyes of Him with whom we have to give account.

The Word has the ability to do in you as much as you will allow it to do~ The Word has no limitations! P.H.

As Jesus Christ died to bear our curses, the logos died, but rather quickly, 3 days in fact, the logos was resurrected!

That’s why when you read God’s word and begin to believe it, and apply it daily, you become inundated with life-force, the anointing becomes evident, your light shines out, while mountains begin to move!

That why Paul told Timothy in, 2 Timothy 4:1-2NKJ I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.

Isaiah 55:10-11NKJ “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, But water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower And bread to the eater, 11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

Going back to the text, John 1:3NLT God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.

A.W. Tozer captures the thought well in his book, The Knowledge of the Holy.

The mind looks backward in time until the dim past vanishes, and looks into the future till thought and imagination collapse from exhaustion, and God is at both points, unaffected by either.

Time marks the beginning of created existence, because God never begin to exist it can have no personal meaning for the high and lofty one that inhabits eternity.

Again verse 3, states that the Word is Deity. Only God is eternal, and because the Word is eternal, He is God.

It’s the Word who saves, it’s the Word who heals, it’s the Word who delivers!

Remember this story in Matthew 8:5-8NLT When Jesus returned to Capernaum, a Roman officer came and pleaded with him, 6 “Lord, my young servant lies in bed, paralyzed and in terrible pain.” 7 Jesus said, “I will come and heal him.” 8 But the officer said, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come into my home. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed.

I want to tell everyone of you, “Just speak the Word!”

John 1:4NLT The word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone.

So what is the created? Things or beings that exist because they were created. Trees, Houses, Cars, people, worries Etc.

So what is not created? Things or beings that were not created because they have always existed. God, the Word, Jesus and the spirit.

Therefore, Verse 4 teaches us, That the Word gives life to everything, and His life produces light.

When someone ask you what keeps you going? “Just tell them it’s the Word that gives me life, and His life produces light. This light illuminates everything while keeping me alive!”

John 1:5NLT The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.

The devil (The god of this world) does everything he can do to stop your light.

Your light has authority. Your light manifest miracles and faith. Your light produces salvation. You light keeps you going, you can’t get rid of the light!

Unless, let me illustrate John's point another way. Every modern house is connected to an electric grid, which provides all the energy necessary to illumine every dark corner. However, the people living in these homes can choose to live in the dark. The light is a available but it isn't compulsory. The source of light has come to the world and has illuminated all minds; however, many choose to draw all the shades and shun the light.

John 1:14NLT So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.

The Greek philosopher Socrates made this statement: "Oh that someone would arise, man or god, to show us God." In the minds of scholars, here's one of the greatest philosophers who ever lived; and yet he, himself, had beating in his own breast--and he admitted it--oh that god could come in a man and show the world god in human form.

Plato, who was one of the great students of Socrates, said, "Unless a god man comes to us and reveals to us the Supreme Being, there is no help or hope.”

The Son of God who was from eternity became human, With limitations in time and space. (Phil. 2:5-11 Say’s,… Jesus humbled Himself and became obedient to death, even the death on the cross).

Psalm 107:20NKJ He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions.

Benediction.
