Lamentations 3:1-26
PROPOSITION Because Christ is merciful, we can experience hope even during periods of God’s judgment.
How should I deal with witnessing God’s judgment?
I. You ought to experience great despair! v. 1-18
A. Jerusalem was the most blessed city on earth.
1. Jerusalem was the place where God meet with His people.
2. Jerusalem was given God’s message through His prophets.
3. Jerusalem became a place of idol worship.
B. Jerusalem became the epitome of God’s judgment.
1. Jeremiah experiences a broken heart over his nation’s condition (2:11).
2. Jeremiah experiences exceptional suffering over his nation’s condition (3:1-16).
3. Jeremiah experiences a loss of vitality over his nation’s condition (17-18).
II. You ought to experience great hope! v. 19-26
A. Hope is a byproduct of God’s mercy (20-22).
1. His faithful covenant love for them (22a).
2. His affectionate compassion for them (22b).
B. Hope is a byproduct of God’s faithfulness (23)!
1. His compassion is ‘limitless”.
2. His compassion should cause us to cry, “great is thy faithfulness”.
C. Hope is a byproduct of God as your portion (24-26)!
1. Christ is good to those who wait for Him (25)..
2. It is good to quietly wait for the Lord (26).
