I AM SO THANK I DO NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM... STUBBORNESS
By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com
In the fall of 1994, REUTERS NEWS AGENCY reported a story of
ALBERTO GAUNA that lived in the northern province of Chaco in ARGENTINA.
It was reported that ALBERTO had been depressed for some time. So he decided to
KILL HIMSELF. He bought a .22 CALIBER PISTOL... He place the pistol to his right
temple and pulled the trigger. THE GUN FIRED but ALBERTO LIVED.
ALBERTO waited a few minutes and decide to put the gun to his FOREHEAD, he did
and pulled the trigger and fired... Alberto lived.
Alberto decided to place the pistol at his right temple again and he fired the gun. Once again
Alberto was alive? So he fired the gun, bang! He lived...
Alberto then decided to try a different part of his body, so he fired the gun into his stomach.
Alberto was still conscious so he fired the gun again.
Alberto had 4 rounds in his head, and 2 rounds in his stomach --- 6 shots and he was still alive.
FINALLY ALBERTO WAS OUT OF AMMO --- A STILL LIVING AND CONSIOUS.
He was a very perseverant or stubborn man. 6 shots and a long hospital stay did not
seem to help ALBERTO?
TEXT:
Romans 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave
them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
I. COME LET US DEFINE WHAT STUBBORN MEANS?
STUBBORN: to refuse to change, refuse to stop doing,
fixedness that resist, hard to convince
hard to move or persuade
difficult to handle or manage
clinging to an opinion, purpose, or course in spite of reasoning
unreasonably unyielding,
BULL HEADED, hard headed, mulish
II. WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT BEING STUBBORN?
STUBBORN IS USED 17X'S
STUBBORNESS 9X'S HARD HEART stiff necked
STUBBORNLY 3X'S OBSTINATE
29X'S
Psalm 32:9 Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth
must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.
Psalm 78:8 And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation
that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.
Isaiah 48:4 Because I knew that thou art obstinate, and thy neck is an iron sinew, and thy
brow brass;
Malachi 2:2 If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the
LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed
them already, because ye do not lay it to heart.
III. OLD PREACHER SAMUEL HAS SEEN A VERY TALENTED --- POTENTIAL YOUNG MAN
WITH A BAD ATTITUDE RE-INFORCE HIS NEGATIVE BEHAVIOR AND THE PREACHER
WARNS THE FIRST KING OF ISRAEL... SAUL YOU ARE HEADED FOR TROUBLE...
A. STUBBORNESS is a COVENANT KILLER ---
1 Samuel 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,
as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than
the fat of rams. 23. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and
idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.
B. Saul did not obey the Preacher or the Word of God to UTTERLY DESTROY ---
C. SAUL GOT ANGRY WITH THE PREACHER AND REFUSED TO WAIT --- IMPATIENCE...
D. Saul was not faithful to God...
IV. BEWARE WHEN YOU MARRY STUBBORNESS YOU ARE MARRYING ALL THE COUSINS
AND NUTS FROM THE FAMILY TREE...
Romans 2:5 (KJV) But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath
against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
Romans 2:5 (NLT) But because you are stubborn and refuse to turn from your sin, you are
storing up terrible punishment for yourself. For a day of anger is coming, when God’s righteous
judgment will be revealed.
NOT THANKFUL---- FORGET THE PAST BLESSINGS ----- HARD HEART
STOPPED UP EARS---- REFUSE TO LISTEN----- UNREPENTANT
REBELLIOUNESS---- DISTORT THE FACTS OBSTINATE
NO CORRECTION REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE BLAME GAME
V. GOD HAS A PURPOSE MORE THAN JUST THE RELEASE OF HIS PEOPLE...
GOD HAD TO BREAK THE STUBBORNESS OF A PEOPLE...
THERE IS A SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PLAGUES IN EGYPT...
LOOK AT A FEW STUBBORN PEOPLE IN THE BIBLE:
PHAROAH THE EGYPTIAN KING ---
A. In the plagues one through five and plague seven PHAROAH HARDEN HIS OWN HEART...
1. The plague of the blood over the water...
2. The plague of the FROGS --- HEQT was god of sex, fertility --- frogs head, woman's body.
3. The plague of the GNATS from the dust of the ground
4. The plague of the FLIES --- multiply pest, disease carriers
5. The plague on the LIVESTOCK --- APIS, was sacred bull Egyptians worshiped (power)
6. The plague of the BOILS --- hands full of ashes from the "furnace of affliction."
7. The plague of HAIL: Pharaoh now confesses he sinned...
8. The plague of the LOCUST rides in on the east wind of judgment...
9. The plague of DARKENSS --- RA was their sun god
10. The plague of the FIRSTBORN --- the PASSOVER WILL SHOW GOD'S PEOPLE...
B. God breaks the stubborn, hard heart and submission follows...
VI. THERE IS ANOTHER STUBBORN MAN THAT PUSHES THE WARNINGS OF DANIEL...
NEBUCHADNEZZAR --- WHY ARE YOU SO PROUD AND STUBBORN?
A. Success and power goes to the leaders head... YOU WILL KNOW
Daniel 4:25 That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of
the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew
of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the
kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will. 26 And whereas they commanded to leave
the stump of the tree roots; thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known
that the heavens do rule. 27 Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break
off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by shewing mercy to the poor; if it may be a
lengthening of thy tranquillity.
NEBUCHADNEZZAR'S STUBBORNESS LEADS TO A BREAKDOWN...
Daniel 4:33 The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from
men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were
grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.
THE KING SUBMITS TO GOD AND PRAISES HIM...
Daniel 4:34 And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and
mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured
him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from
generation to generation:
VII. THERE GROWS A PARTY HARDY DRUNKEN, SEXUAL PERMISSIVENESS THAT IS DEADLY.
BELTTESHAZZAR WHY BE SO STUBBORN?
A. WHY ARE PEOPLE SO STUBBORN ...
Daniel 5:25 And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.
26 This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.
27 TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.
B. PEOPLESO BENT ON WRONG:
Hosea 11:7 (KJV) And my people are bent to backsliding from me: though they called them to the
most High, none at all would exalt him.
VIII. THERE IS A GODLY SOLUTION TO ANGER AND STUBBORNESS...
BROKEN AND CONTRITE...
Psalm 34:18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a
contrite spirit.
James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify
your hearts, ye double minded.
CONCLUSION: Beware STUBBORNESS is a real spiritual suicide that will endanger you.
Stubbornness can be a taught trait from generation to generation.
