Text: Luke 4:18 – 19, Revelation 12:11
Offering
Proverbs 11:24-25 There is one who scatters, and yet increases all the more, and there is one who withholds what is justly due, and yet it results only in want. The generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered.
Opening Scripture
Luke 4:18-19 "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord."
After getting all the attention of the synagogue Jesus states,
Luke 4:21 And He began to say to them, "Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."
Revelation 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.
Introduction
Luke 4:18-19 "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me
(Isaiah 61:1 – 3)
The Spirit of the Lord – Jesus was filled with the spirit. He showed us how we can do it. We must rely on the spirit and be filled with the Spirit.
Anointed Me – set me apart
Chio – Khree’ – O (all words defined are from strongs)
1. to anoint
a. consecrating Jesus to the messianic office, and furnishing him with the necessary powers for its administration
b. enduing Christians with the gifts of the holy spirit
“the anointing breaks the yoke”
Isaiah 10:27 It shall come to pass in that day That his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, And his yoke from your neck, And the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil.
You have been anointed by God
Jesus anointed: Acts 4:27; 10:38
We have been anointed: 2 Corinthians 1:21; Hebrews 1:9
Note: Here I shared the difference between preach and proclaim. To preach is to share that which you are familiar with. To proclaim is as a herald relaying the commands of the king. The herald could not include his emotion or opinion but what the king had said.
To preach the gospel to the poor;
Preach – share the word of God, the gospel, the good news. Salvation. This is often according to our own experience. It is God using us and we sharing by who we are.
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
Heal – to make whole
Brokenhearted –

2. to tread down
a. to put Satan under foot and (as a conqueror) trample on him
b. to break down, crush
1. to tear one's body and shatter one's strength
Psalms 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.
“Jesus can heal the broken hearted but you must give him ALL the pieces”
To proclaim liberty to the captives
Proclaim – declare with authority. Announce. Set forth a decree as a herald would go out and proclaim the law of the land. As a herald would go forth to declare the kings law.
2 Corinthians 5:20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ,
Proclaim has a lot more umph behind it. Preaching is a personal experience and out of that I preach. Proclaiming is that which God has declared now I come with authority to declare it to you.
Liberty – deliverance
- Original: ἄφεσις
- Transliteration: Aphesis
- Phonetic: af'-es-is

1. release from bondage or imprisonment
2. forgiveness or pardon, of sins (letting them go as if they had never been committed), remission of the penalty

Recovery – restore back
Blind – as not to see that which is before you.
To set at liberty oppressed; those who are

Isaiah 42:3 A bruised reed He will not break, And smoking flax He will not quench;
19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord."
Proclaim – declare with authority. Announce. Set forth a decree as a herald would go out and proclaim the law of the land.
Year of Jubilee – everybody was set free. Seven Sevens Leviticus 25:8
This was observed by the Jews. On the 50th year all debts would be released. People who were held under the bondage of debt would be set free.
The Religious Leaders Action
Luke 4:28-30 So all those in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, (29) and rose up and thrust Him out of the city; and they led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw Him down over the cliff. (30) Then passing through the midst of them, He went His way.
They didn’t want this freedom. Some people don’t want this freedom because now they have no more excuse to be the way they are. They have to be accountable to being changed and not blaming others.
How to Win!!
Another Prophetic time
Revelation 12:10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, "Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren,
the accuser: Job_1:9, Job_2:5, Zec_3:1, Zec_3:2, Luk_22:31, Tit_2:3
who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.
Revelation 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb
HEBREWS 2:14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,
and by the word of their testimony,
start testifying
What He did?
Change your talk.
When it is bad say, “I see that but this is what God’s word says”.
Some of you need to learn to talk, to preach to yourself.
and they did not love their lives to the death.
This is the FAITH part. “not my will but yours”
Ephesians 6:16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
Conclusion
Where are you? Are you free? Are you captive?
