Mountaintops and Valleys Matthew 14
We all experience mountaintops and valleys
For a preacher- Monday always follows Sunday
There are times in our life when everything is wonderful and God seems to be blessing us so richly.
There are times in our life when we feel alone, not sure where to turn, or how we will make it through the day.
Mountaintops and valleys.
A. Realize that mountaintops and valleys are unavoidable.
Jesus had mountaintops and valleys….
He was baptized…God voice from heaven, the Spirit descended like a dove. (Mountaintop)
Soon after that Satan tempted him in the desert. (Valley)
Jesus healed and blessed the lives of many. (Mountaintop)
Religious leaders questioned him. (Valley)
Great time of teaching (Mountaintop)
No honor in his hometown (Valley)
Flourishing ministry (Mountaintop)
Finds out John was beheaded (Valley)
Feeding the 5,000 (Mountaintop)
Dealing with the death of John (Valley)
The Triumphal Entry (Mountaintop)
The trial (Valley)
The last supper (Mountaintop)
The first betrayal by Judas (Valley)
B. Remember that you are never alone on the mountain or in the valley.
I will be with you always…If you feel far from God, guess who moved?
C. Don’t build on a mountaintop or camp in a valley.
Do not build your faith on the high exciting experiences with God. Enjoy them.
Do not let your life become all about your valley, don’t camp there….persevere.
D. God can use you on the mountain or in the valley.
In your comfort you can comfort others.
Rejoice with those on the mountain.
Mourn with those in the valley.
E. Keep in mind that mountaintops and valleys are temporary.
There is a mountain waiting for the believer.
We will never have to leave.
It is forever.
Revelation 22 tells us "And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God."
