I HAVE CANDY KISSES THAT I GIVE EACH ONE AND ASK THEM WHAT DOES
A KISS MEAN?
Let us survey some of the kisses of the Bible.
I. INTRODUCTION:
WHAT IS A KISS?
To touch someone with your lips, a mark of affection, endearment.
A kiss can be a greeting, showing of love, or sexual attraction.
To touch gently, lightly.
WHAT DOES A KISS MEAN?
II. IF WE LOOK FOR THE OPPORTUNITY, WE WILL FIND IT...
BEWARE OF THE DAGGER OF HYPOCRISY...
SOME PEOPLE CAN BE THE GREAT PRETENDER ---
THEY MAY APPEAR AS A SHEEP, BUT UNDER THAT GARB IS A REAL WOLF...
A WOLF WITHIN IS MORE DANGERIOUS THAN LIONS WITHOUT THE CAMP.
A. WANT TO SPEAK OF LIES AND DECEIT?
The kiss of a FOE can grow to be a GREAT DESTRUCTIVE FORCE.
Luke 22:47 And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the
twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.
48 But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?
B. Wisdom must be ON GUARD because flattery and KISSES can KILL...
C. FLATTERY and KISSY KISSY can reveal the DAGGER OF HYPOCRISY.
III. TO AVOID THE DAGGER HYPOCRISY --- AND DENY THAT HURT RULE YOUR SPIRIT
WE MUST BE QUICK TO FORGIVE AND SET SELF FREE...
A. THE DAGGER OF SELFISHNESS AND GIVE ME...
THE DAGGER OF HURT AND BEING OFFENDED ...
IS CRUSHED MY THE SPIRIT OF FORGIVENESS.
B. Set yourself free by being quick to forgive and build a BRIDGE.
IV. What a wonder story--- from a babe in a manger to a 12 year old boy sitting
in the temple--- TO A FRIEND USING THE DAGGER OF A KISS TO SELL A FRIEND...
To THE OLD RUGGED CROSS--- to an EMPTY BORROWED GRAVE---
TO A RISEN SAVIOR...
A. Jesus knew about the DAGGER OF FALSEHOOD and the real DANGER of
WEARING MASKS and there theaters OF PRETENDING...
Matthew 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as
serpents, and harmless as doves. 17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils,
and they will scourge you in their synagogues; 18 And ye shall be brought before governors and
kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.
B. THIS THEATER OF MASK AND PRETENDING WILL BE REVEAL BY FIRE.
THE DAGGER OF THE KISS...
C. THE KISS CAN BE A GREAT SIGN OF AFFECTION VS THE WOUNDING KISS...
NO WOUND CUTS DEEPER THAN THE KISS OF INCONSISTANT SELF KINGDOM
BUILDERS.
D. Who is looking for MORE... JUDAS revealed many dangerous traits in his JOURNEY
with the SON OF GOD. JUDAS WAS REVEALING HIMSELF LONG BEFORE THAT FATEFUL KISS...
THE JUDAS KISS CAN BE DEADLY
V. A KISS IS NOT ALWAYS LOVE...
A KISS CAN BE LUST... AND LEAD TO GREAT SIN AND JUDGMENT...
THE SAD TRAIL OF THE KISS OF A STRANGE WOMAN...
Proverbs 2:16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;
Proverbs 5:3 For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
Proverbs 5:20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom
of a stranger?
THE KISSS OF THE WORLD CAN BE MORE THAN LUST...
THE KISS OF THE IDOL OR A HAND SALUTE
1 Kings 19:18 Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal,
and every mouth which hath not kissed him.
Hosea 13:2 And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver,
and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them,
Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.
VI. With much fair speech... THE KISS OF THE FAMILY
Genesis 27:26 And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son.
27 And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him,
and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD hath blessed:
Genesis 29:13 And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister's son,
that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house.
And he told Laban all these things.
Exodus 18:7 And Moses went out to meet his father in law, and did obeisance, and kissed him; and
they asked each other of their welfare; and they came into the tent.
VII. THE KISS OF HIS PRESENCE:
Luke 7:38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears,
and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with
the ointment.
YOU DID NOT THINK THE KISS WAS VERY IMPORTANT...
Luke 7:45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased
to kiss my feet.
VIII. THE KISS OF RECONCILATION:
Genesis 33:4 And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed
him: and they wept.
2 Samuel 14:33 So Joab came to the king, and told him: and when he had called for Absalom,
he came to the king, and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king: and the king
kissed Absalom.
IX. THE KISS OF FAREWELL---
I HATE SAYING GOOD BYE...
Genesis 31:28 And hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? thou hast now done
foolishly in so doing.
Genesis 31:55 And early in the morning Laban rose up, and kissed his sons and his daughters,
and blessed them: and Laban departed, and returned unto his place.
Ruth 1:14 And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law;
but Ruth clave unto her.
2 Samuel 19:39 And all the people went over Jordan. And when the king was come over, the
king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned unto his own place.
X. THE KISS OF THE ANOINTING
1 Samuel 10:1 Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him,
and said, Is it not because the LORD hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?
Psalm 2:12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled
but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
XI. THE KISS OF FRIENDSHIP AND CHRISTIAN BROTHERS
Romans 16:16 Salute one another with an holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you.
1 Corinthians 16:20 All the brethren greet you. Greet ye one another with an holy kiss.
2 Corinthians 13:12 Greet one another with an holy kiss.
1 Thessalonians 5:26 Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.
CONCLUSION: It is good to study God's word. The study of Biblical kisses are a powerful
lesson. Beware of the kiss of the world and compromise.
