MOODS:
WHAT ARE MOODS?
HOW DO WE GET INTO THIS MOOD?
CAN WE CHANGE OUR MOODS...

TEXT:
Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
Ever wonder why they were called the SONS OF THUNDER?
Mark 3:17 And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed
them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder:
I. INTRODUCTION:
WHAT WE GAIN BY INTERCESSION, WE WILL KEEP BY INTERCESSION...
A great preacher (Carlson) spoke these words a few years ago.
I have them in my note book...
God is calling Spirit-filled people to a FRESHER and DEEPER ministry unto Him in
worship and unto all the world in witness.
This is our day of visitation by the Holy Spirit. He promised in the last days to pour out His
Spirit on all flesh. There will be a world wide revival.
The family and the home are integral parts of the body of Christ, and SATAN IS ATTACKING
THE HOME AS A MEANS OF WEAKENING THE EFFECTIVE WITNESS OF THE CHURCH. He shall
not prevail. Taking the armor of the Lord and praying in the Holy Spirit, the church shall be
victorious.
Every member of our fellowship---officers, ministers, lay leaders --- all are urged to join the
Executive Presbyters in DAILY INTERCESSORY PRAYER FOR OUR FAMILIES and our prayer
partners. Together, as witnesses of the body of Christ, we will find direction to reach everyone
in our world with the message of the gospel.
Let every home be an altar of DAILY INTERCESSORY PRAYER. LET THE FAMILY ALTAR
BE THE SOURCE OF ENERGY FOR REACHING THE WORLD.
Trials and victories are part of Christian life. We know we will have trials. But we are assured
of victories as we pray. Let us continue to pray daily for God's direction and help for our churches
and families. He has promised us the victory.

II. MAY I TAKE A LIBERTY AND SUGGEST THAT MOODS MAY COME FROM SPIRITUAL SOURCES?
SOME PEOPLE GET MOODY WHEN THEY DO NOT GET THEIR WAY...
AHAB WAS A MOODY KING...
LET'S CALL THIS MOOD BY THE REAL NAME: MANIPULATION... CONTROLING SPIRIT
1 Kings 21:4 And Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which
Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him: for he had said, I will not give thee the inheritance of
my fathers. And he laid him down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.
[5] But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said unto him, Why is thy spirit so sad, that thou
eatest no bread?
A. AHAB WAS A SPOILED ROTTEN CHILD AND KING...
He demanded what he wanted...AHAB'S DESIRES AND COVETING TOOK A SPIRITUAL
PRIORITY ... Ahab had a heart problem...
B. SULLEN, IMMATURITY, ANGER DRIVEN...
C. POUT... WHAT DOES POUTING LOOK LIKE?
D. What desires do you have that control you?
WHEN DESIRES CONTROL YOU --- YOU ARE OUT OF CONTROL!
Choices have consequences...
E. PUT TWO MOODY PEOPLE TOGETHER AND WHAT DO YOU GET?
AHAB TEAMS UP WITH A WOMAN... AND THE TWO OF THEM BECOME MOODY
PEOPLE AND TOGETHER THEY ARE DANGEROUS...
F. IS THERE CONSEQUENCES FOR MOODINESS?
1 Kings 21:23 And of Jezebel also spake the Lord, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the
wall of Jezreel.
[24] Him that dieth of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dieth in the field shall
the fowls of the air eat.
[25] But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight
of the Lord, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.
III. EVEN SOME GREAT MEN OF GOD HAVE HAD TO OVERCOME MOODINESS...
ELIJAH WAS A MIGHTY MAN OF GOD... YET HE HAD SOME DARK DAYS AND NIGHTS...
A. Elijah served God in a dark day of evil leaders and many spiritual leaders seeking popularity
of the anointing.
B. Elijah tells King Ahab a serious drought is coming...
C. Elijah has to run for his life... and faces a dark day...
Then God test Elijah's faith by DRYING UP THE BROOK...
NOW GOD WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
1 Kings 17:7 And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been
no rain in the land.
D. NOW WE COME TO THE ULTIMATE MOOD SWING, WE CALL THIS THE JUNIPER TREE
EXPERIENCE.
THE KING IS MAD AT THE PREACHER.
THE KING'S WIFE VOWS TO KILL THE PREACHER BEFORE MORNING, REMEMBER SHE HAS
KILLED OTHER PREACHERS...
E. ELIJAH IS DISCOURAGED...
HE IS TIRED AND EXHAUSTED...
ELIJAH PRAYS TO DIE... WHAT A TERRIBLE MOOD...
1 Kings 19:1 And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the
prophets with the sword.
[2] Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also,
if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.
[3] And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which belongeth
to Judah, and left his servant there.
[4] But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper
tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away
my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
[5] And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him,
Arise and eat.
[6] And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head.
And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.
[7] And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat;
because the journey is too great for thee. [8] And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength
of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.
F. ELIJAH POURS OUT HIS COMPLAINT TO GOD,
GOD GIVES HIM A NEW REVELATION... ELIJAH MOVES UNDER THE ANOINTING AND
ANOINTS TWO NEW KINGS....
IV. I DO NOT CARE WHAT YOU SAY DADDY AND MOMMY...
THIS IS WHAT I WANT... MY DESIRES WILL CONTROL MY BEHAVIOR PATTERNS AND
MY MOODS...
A. We grow the tendency to allow our eyes, eyes, emotions, circumstances to DICTATE OUR MOODS.
B. YOUNG PEOPLE TEND TO IGNORE THE ADVICE OF OTHER PEOPLE...
C. I HAVE SEEN... NO CONSIDERATION OF THE CONSEQUENCES...
Judges 14:1 And Samson went down to Timnath, and saw a woman in Timnath of the daughters
of the Philistines.
[2] And he came up, and told his father and his mother, and said, I have seen a woman in
Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines: now therefore get her for me to wife.
[3] Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters
of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the uncircumcised
Philistines? And Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well.
D. SAMSON WANTS HIS DAD TO OBEY HIM, WHAT IS THE COMMANDMENT?
E. IS THIS A TEMPORAL OR ETERNAL CHOICE?
F. SAMSON ESTABLISH A BEHAVIOR PATTERN WITH HIS MOODS...
Judges 16:1 Then went Samson to Gaza, and saw there an harlot, and went in unto her.
[2] And it was told the Gazites, saying, Samson is come hither. And they compassed him in,
and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, In the
morning, when it is day, we shall kill him.
[3] And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city,
and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders,
and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron.
G. SAMSON'S PLEASURES HID THE CONSEQUENCES... GOD IS GONE
Judges 16:20 And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his
sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that
the Lord was departed from him.
[21] But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and
bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.
H. BEFORE SAMSON METS DELIAH, GOD IS GONE...
V. LET US LOOK A YOUNG PREACHER THAT HAS NO RECORD OF MOOD SWINGS
AND BEHAVIORAL ISSUES... WHY ARE YOU DOING SO WELL?
A. In the same time period of Elijah we met another young preacher...
ELISHA...
B. Elisha has a much different temperament and A DIFFERENT ATTITUDE than Elijah had.
Elijah was a solitary figure and had periods of great depression..
C. THE ANSWER OF THE DIFFERENCE IS EASY: A DOUBLE PORTION OF GOD'S
SPIRIT....
2 Kings 2:9 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha,
Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said,
I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
D. Elisha was different, there is no record of a fit of depression in his ministry.
Elisha was GIFTED with the DOUBLE PORTION of God and he was lead into a
TRIUMPHANT DAILY WALK WITH GOD AND HIS FELLOW MAN.
F. There is not written record of Elisha complaining.
There is no record of Elisha running from his enemies.
There is no record that Elisha lost his courage...
G. EVEN ON ELISHA'S DEATH BED HE WAS FULL OF POWERFUL AND
INSTRUCTING THE NEW KING...
VI. YOU CAN ALTER YOUR MOODS ON THE ALTAR BY PRAYER AND FASTING...
LOOK AT ASAPH --- THE MUSCIAN AT THE CHURCH...
Psalm 73:1 A Psalm of Asaph. Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.
[2] But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.
[3] For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
A. ASAPH WAS DISCOURAGED AND READY TO QUIT.
Psalm 73:16 When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me;
B. ASPAH GOES TO CHURCH
Psalm 73:17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.
Psalm 73:26 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart,
and my portion for ever.
C. AT CHURCH GOD ALTERS ASAPH'S MOOD...
Psalm 73:28 But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord
God, that I may declare all thy works.
CONCLUSION:
Are you a moody person? Who do you blame for your moods?
Can you change? Do you want to change? Evaluate your moods and bring them to God.
Let God alter your moods on the ALTAR.
