I ran across this little saying...
YOU DON'T SEE THINGS AS THEY ARE...
YOU SEE THINGS AS YOU ARE!
I agree with it?
I don't agree with it?
A. ATTITUDE:
OPINION OR A WAY OF THINKING...
BEHAVIOR REFLECTING THINKING...
FEELING... HOW ONE FEELS ABOUT SOMETHING...
YOUR POSITION...
B. PERSPECTIVE:
relation between to visible objects...
MENTAL VIEW of relative importance...
C. MOTIVE:
A FACTOR THAST INDUCES A PERSON TO ACT A CERTAIN WAY...
Incentive, cause, reason...
I. WE IN THE SPIRITUAL REALM WILL QUICKLY ACKNOWLEDGE THE POWER OF WORDS.
WRITTEN WORDS AND SPOKEN WORDS HAVE GREAT POWER... BUT THERE ARE FRUITS
OF THE WORDS WE SPEAK AND LISTEN TO...
A. THERRE IS A BIGGER PICTURE THAN YOUR WORDS AND YOUR MOUTH...
THERE ARE ISSUES OF YOUR APPETITES AND YOUR ATTITUDES...
Proverbs 13:3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips
shall have destruction.
B. YOUR WORDS COME ... THE FRUIT OF YOUR WORDS
Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat
the fruit thereof.
Matthew 12:37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
II. WE CAN NOT SEE THE COMPLEXITIES OF LIFE CLEARLY. THE POWER OF
THE TONGUE BUT NOW WE MUST SEE THE POWER OF ATTITUDES...
A. Repressed feelings and thoughts that influence behavior.
Matthew 12:34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things?
for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
B. Words have a birth placed ... your heart... YOUR HEART...
C. YOUR ATTITUDES...
Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good;
and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the
abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
III. YOUR PERSONALITY IS VERY COMPLEX, AND FEW EVER REALIZE THE
POWER OF ATTITUDES. MANY WILL TALK ABOUT THE POWER OF WORDS...
THE POWER OF ATTITUDE HAS A CORRELATION WITH EVEN OUR WOORDS...
FROM WHERE DO ATTITUDES, PERSPECTIVES, AND MOTIVES COME...
YOUR BEHAVIORIAL TENDANCIES COME FROM SOME WHERE...
1. SOME SAY OUR ATTITUDES COME FROM THE GENES, INHERITED:
A. Gene: unit of heredity composed of DNA/RNA and forming part of a chromosome
that determines a particular characteristic of an individual.
B. Heredity: Passing on of physical/ mental characteristics genetically...
C. Have you ever heard of stories of identical twins being separated at birth.
There is a story of two Indian braves, twins, separated at birth...
One stayed in the wilds of the wilderness, one was taken to England and brought
up as a noble with a very formal education and lived in a palace so grand.
The Indian in England loved the out doors. He often camped out.
He loved to hunt and fish. He spent his time out in the woods, even though his
up bringing was much different.
The Indian twin loved nature and was found there?
2. SOME SAY ATTITUDES COME FROM THE ENVIRONMENT:
A. Surroundings that effect live.
Conditions or circumstances of living...
B. Sure, part of who you are comes from WHERE YOU ARE RAISED...
C. A person raised in Africa will probably be much different than one raised in
China?
A person raised in the inner city will be different than a person raised on the farm?
D. A person raised poor may have a different attitude than a person with a silver
spoon in their mouth? How do we value things...
3. SOME SAY FRIENDS HAVE GREAT INFLUENCE ON OUR ATTITUDES,
PEER PRESSURE HAS GREAT FORCE, WATCH COMMERICALS AND SEE
HOW THEY USE PEER PRESSURE:
2 Cor. 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what
fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion
hath light with darkness?
A. A big sister or a big brother can have a great influence over the younger...
Many of life's great lessons are taught by a parent...
B. Peer: person who is equal in ability, standing, rank, or value...
C. Birds of a feather flock together...
D. YOU WILL NEVER BE ANY BETTER THAN THE GROUP OF FRIENDS THAT YOU HANG
WITH...
E. I was teaching the 6th grade. I had a beautiful girl that was very smart.
She was a straight A student. She started hanging with some very rough teens.
The teens did drugs and were active sexually.
My heart was broken as I saw my good student drift into dangerous areas.
I ASKED FOR A PARENT-TEACHER MEETING.
The girls mother came in one day after school. I warned her of the peril her daughter
was facing. I begged her to help make some adjustments to her friends and attitudes.
The mother laughed at me.
The next day I had an angry mother waiting when I arrived at school...
She said: I UNDERSTAND THAT YOU THING MY KIDS ARE A BAD INFLUENCE
ON ________?
I had not mentioned any names what so ever...
The mother to which I talked knew who the negative influences were...
I explained to the angry mother I had never mentioned any names and I knew was
sorry that what I said was unheeded.
The next year, in the 7th grade my super smart girl was arrest at the bus depot
with drugs that the older students were using as a drug dog.
Right after Christmas break the mother asked to see me...
In many tears she told me that her 13 year old daughter was pregnant and they
didn't even know who the father was...
She said: Mr. Hughes, you were right if I had only guided her differently.
The girl dropped out of middle school and often stayed in the local motel.
THIS COULD HAVE BEEN CHANGED...
E. WE HAVE YOUNG PEOPLE THAT DEVELOP CO-DEPPENEDENT PERSONITIES...
They can never find happiness or joy without someone CONTROLLING/ MANIPULATING
THEM... THERE ARE ALWAYS SOME PPEOPLE THAT ARE WAITING TO TAKE
ADVANTAGE OF THEM.
F. NEVER DATE WHO WOULD NOT MAKE A GREAT MATE...
WE DON'T HAVE A MARRIAGE PROBLEM... WE HAVE A DATING PROBLEM...
Sex will make a SOUL TIE... That connects people and they can't seem to break away...
If we dated right, we could solve many MARRIAGE PROBLEMS...
4. SOME SAY OUR ATTITUDES COME FROM LEARNED BEHAVIOR:
A. To gain knowledge or skill, memorize, teach, master...
IN LIFE WE MUST BECOME GOOD STUDENTS...
B.This is very true we learn... a baby learns that by crying he can make his parents
perform like a puppet...
C. Kids learn BY WATCHING TV... READING... PLAYING...
Kindergarden is German, from Fredrick Froebel... CHILD'S PLAY OR MOTHER'S PLAY.
5. OTHER SAY OUR ATTITUDES ARE FORMED BY: INSTINCT...
Innate pattern of behavior
Unconscious skill, intuition
6. OUR ATTITUDES WILL BE FORMED BY USING THE LIMITS... COMPROMISE...
A. I know a child that was brillant and the head of his class. He would come home and
complain and tell his Mother how every body at school picked on him.
Mom would get so mad. Mom went to school several times and had an angry confrontation
with the teacher. One day the mom threaten to whip the teacher.
The child would whine and whine and cry. The child would stay up until 4am, and then
refuse to get up, he hated school. The child manipulated his mother.
She took him out of school and decided to home school him.
6 years later they have yet to order the home school information and the child watches
TV all night. He is now a nightmare to his Mom and Dad and they don't know what to do.
He is "OUT OF CONTROL" ... He dictates... THEY OBEY...
IV. LET US TALK ABOUT CHOICES:
SYMPATHY, COMPASSION, SENSITIVE HEART FELT ...
HARD HEARTED, MEAN SPIRITED, SHARP TONGUED,
Jude 1:22 And of some have compassion, making a difference:
V. YOU ARE A SUM TOTAL OF YOUR DAILY CHOICES...
YOU DON'T SEE THINGS AS THEY ARE...
YOU SEE THINGS AS THINGS AS YOU ARE!
Jude 1:23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the
garment spotted by the flesh.
VI. . YOUR ATTITUDE CAN EFFECT YOUR ALTITUDE...
Romans 8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they
that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
[6] For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
[7] Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of
God, neither indeed can be. [8] So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
[9] But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.
Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
VII. WE GROW SO TIRED BECAUSE WE ARE FIGHTING AND WE SUPPOSE
IN OUR ATTITUDES THIS IS MY FIGHT...
2 Chron. 20:15 And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of
Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the Lord unto you,
Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude;
for the battle is not yours, but God's.
VII. WE ARE FACING STRONGHOLDS... NOT HABITS AND PERSONALITIES...
2 Tim. 2:24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men,
apt to teach, patient,
A. ARGUMENTS SETTLE NOTHING...
Win an argument and loose a friend ... what have you won...
2 Cor. 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God
to the pulling down of strong holds;)
B. WE HAVE TO QUIT MAKING EXCUSES...
C. NO ONE WHO BE CAUGHT GUILTY WITHOUT SOME OFFERING
OF AN EXCUSE...
Moses said: I TALK FUNNY...
Gideon said: I AM THE SMMALLEST MAN FROM THE SMALLEST FAMILY...
ONE TALENT MAN: I knew you were hard...
LORD LET ME GO BURY MY FATHER...
D. 3 CLASSES OF EXCUSES.
I BOUGHT A PIECE OF LAND... MATERIALISM
I BOUGHT SOME OXEN... BUSINESS/ FINANICAL --- PRIORITIES
I AM GGETTING MARRIED... RELATIONSHIPS

But we have the mind of Christ.
