THE BATTLE OF THE HEART... THE BATTLE OF THE FLESH VS THE SPIRIT...
I WAITED ALL THIS TIME FOR THIS? KING OF THE ROCKS?

Galatians 6:8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that
soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
2 Samuel 3:6 And it came to pass, while there was war between the house of Saul and the house
of David, that Abner made himself strong for the house of Saul.
[7] And Saul had a concubine, whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah: and Ish-bosheth
said to Abner, Wherefore hast thou gone in unto my father's concubine?
[8] Then was Abner very wroth for the words of Ish-bosheth, and said, Am I a dog's head, which
against Judah do shew kindness this day unto the house of Saul thy father, to his brethren,
and to his friends, and have not delivered thee into the hand of David, that thou chargest me
to day with a fault concerning this woman?
I. WE NEED TO ESTABLISH A FEW THINGS TO UNDERSTAND TODAY'S LESSON...
A. HEBRON TYPE THAT LOOKS LIKE FAILURE/ DOOM? HEBRON IS THE TYPE OF GOD'S
HEART/ GOD'S WILL... CANNOT SEE?
1. Hebron is mention about 40 times in the Old Testament and none in the New Testament.
Hebron is one of the oldest known cities in Israel.
Hebron is in the DEAD SEA AREA...
2. Abraham set his tent here under the OAKS OF MAMRE.
3. A city in the south of Israel.
A little NOBODY TYPE OF PLACE...
4. ROCKS AND MORE ROCKS ARE THE NORM FOR HEBRON.
5. HEBRON WAS OF THE TRIBE OF JUDAH.
Hebron was a LEVITICAL (Priest City.)
Hebron became one of the CITIES OF REFUGE where people could flee.
6. THE CAVE OF MACHPELAH...
THIS AREAS GREATEST CLAIM TO FAME IS IT IS THE BURIAL SPOT OF SARAH.
Recall the when Sarah died ABRAHAM bought this piece of ground from:
EPHRON THE HITTITE.
7. Today there is a GREAT MOSQUE called MACHPELAH there. Arabs/Islamic people
travel to on pilgrimages.

7. THE BATTLE WITH GOLIATH OPENS THE DOORS OF OPPORTUNITY.
C. WE NEED TO KNOW WHO ISH-BOSHETH IS A TYPE OF THE FLESH,
MEN DOING BY MANIPULATION...
2 Samuel 2:8 But Abner the son of Ner, captain of Saul's host, took Ish-bosheth
the son of Saul, and brought him over to Mahanaim;
[9] And made him king over Gilead, and over the Ashurites, and over Jezreel, and
over Ephraim, and over Benjamin, and over all Israel.
1. ISH-BOSHETH IS THE ONLY SURVIVING SON OF SAUL...
When Saul was dead and all his sons died the same day... ISH-BOSHETH BECAME
A PUPPET OF HIS UNCLE...
2. There was WAR between the 11 tribes of Israel and the 1 tribe, Judah.
D. WE NEED TO KNOW WHO ABNER IS A TYPE OF DEMONIC ACTIVITY TRYING

1. Abner is KING SAUL'S UNCLE...
Abner was the COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF of Israel's armed forces.
Abner first meets DAVID after David kills Goliath.
2. Abner served SAUL WELL, but when Saul and Saul's sons were dead, ABNER
UNDERMINDED DAVID'S AUTHORITY... plot and manipulative styles...
3. ABNER COULD NOT STOP DAVID'S CORNATION OF JUDAH...
But Abner headed the HOSTILE MOVE to ONLY ALLOW DAVID ONE TRIBE TO RULE.
4. ABNER CLAIMED HIS ACTIONS WAS FOR THE HOUSE OF SAUL...
for his nephew ISH-BOSHETH TO BE THE KING...
5. UNCLE ABNER had some SHADEY STUFF GOING ON:
ABNER HAD PLANS OF HIS OWN, HE TOOK RIZPAH SAUL'S CONCUBINE TO
BE HIS WIFE... THIS WOULD UNDERMINE HIS OWN NEPHEW...
LATER UNCLE ABNER COULD CLAIM THE THRONE AS HIS OWN...
6. We later meet RIZPAH AS SHE SETS 5 months to GUARD OF HER DEAD SONS.
II. SAMUEL ANOINTED DAVID AS KING, AND FINALLY AFTER YEARS OF RUNNING
FOR HIS LIFE AND LIVING ON THE RUN --- DAVID IS ANOINTED KING...
KING OF WHAT? KING OF ROCKS? 7 1/2 years?
2 Samuel 2:1 And it came to pass after this, that David enquired of the Lord, saying,
Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the Lord said unto him,
Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto Hebron.
A. We are tested in many ways... 7 1/2 years of nothing?
there is a terrible BATTLE BETWEEN THE SPIRIT AND THE FLESH...
After many years of waiting and cruel treatment DAVID IS CROWNED KING...
KING OF WHAT? KING OF HEBRON... KING OF THE ROCKS...
B. My Kingdom: THE ROCKS, a pile of rocks? Rocks and more rocks?
David ... KING OF JUDAH...
C. Saul was mean, Abner was plotting, I am now KING OF THE DEAD SEA AREA?
The hero is a ZERO?
D. DAVID NEVER GAVE PLACE TO DEPRESSION...
III. ABNER IS AGAINST DAVID AND COVERS HIS REBELLION BY MAKING HIMSELF
LOOK GOOD FOR HELPING ISH-BOSHETH, SAUL'S SON...
A. ABNER has plans for himself...
B. ABNER USES PEOPLE IN THE FLESH TO ATTAIN HIS GOAL...
ISH-BOSHETH IS NO MORE THAN A PUPPET...
CONTROL, MANIPULATION, HANDLE WITH SKILL... FOR ONE'S OWN ADVANTAGE...
C. ISH-BOSHETH CANNOT SEE WHAT HIS UNCLE IS REALLY DOING...
IV. THE BATTLE OF HEBRON AND ISH-BOSHETH AND ABNER IS THE BATTLE WE FACE
TODAY... THE BATTLE OF THE HEART?
A. David has had CHRONIC PROBLEMS...THESE STUPID PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN GOING
ON MANY YEARS... lingering...long term problems take deep roots.
B. Abner is type of flesh to undermine the WILL OF GOD...
V. DO WE HAVE THE WRONG KING ON THE THRONE?
WE TEND TODAY TO WANT TO LET GOD HAVE HIS WILL OF THE ROCKS AND HARD
PLACES, JESUS CAN HAVE THE CROWN UNTIL 12:30 SUNDAY MORNING?
A. There is a human tendency to keep the well fertile fields of GALILEE AND MT CARMEL,
JERUSALEM AND THE SEA COAST FOR PLEASING THE FLESH...
B. THIS IS THE BATTLE OF ABNER FOR ISH-BOSHETH...
C. DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO... KEEP GOD IN HEBRON...
KEEP GOD ON THE ROCKS?
D. THE SPIRIT OF ABNER IS ALIVE AND WELL TODAY...
E. THE ME CHURCH... WHAT IS IN THIS FOR ME... SELF-WILLED...
VI. THE GREATEST TRICK OF THE DEVILIS TO CONVINCE US HE IS NOT REAL...
THERE IS ABNER TRYING TO CONTROL YOU... IT NOT SOMETHING BEHIND
YOU --- IT IS A SOMEONE BEHIND THE SCENES...
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion,
walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
A. The spirit of the anti-Christ is alive.
There is a spirit that HATES GOD and UNDERMINES AUTHORITY...
B. We don't want to be held ACCOUNTABLE...
This week I heard a young Christian young man say he hated ACCOUNTIBILITY.
C. We need to see this ATTACK AND BATTLE and PREPARE...
D. SATAN'S DESIRE IS TO KEEP JESUS CHRIST ON THE ROCKS...
PROFESS BUT NOT POSSESS...
E. THE ABNER SPIRIT IS WORKING OVERTIME...
VII. ONE HAS TO KILL THE ISH-BOSHETH AND ABNER SPIRITS TO ADVANCE IN
GOD'S PLAN...
A. ISH-BOSHETH'S THE PUPPET... PERSONAL BODY GUARDS KILL HIM...
2 Samuel 4:5 And the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, went, and came
about the heat of the day to the house of Ish-bosheth, who lay on a bed at noon.
[6] And they came thither into the midst of the house, as though they would have fetched wheat;
and they smote him under the fifth rib: and Rechab and Baanah his brother escaped.
[7] For when they came into the house, he lay on his bed in his bedchamber, and they smote
him, and slew him, and beheaded him, and took his head, and gat them away through the
plain all night.
The two brothers took Ish-bosheth's head to David...
B. ABNER IS KILLED WITH HIS OWN SWORD... WITHOUT A FIGHT...
JOAB, DAVID'S FRIEND PUT THE SWORD UNDER ABNER'S 5TH RIB AND HE DIES...
2 Samuel 3:33 And the king lamented over Abner, and said, Died Abner as a fool dieth?
VIII. GIVE JESUS HEBRON, THE ROCKY PLACES AND BE PATIENT ---
MAKE THE PERSONAL COMMITMENT AND BE FAITHFUL AND GOD WILL BRING
THE NATION TOGTHER AGAIN...
A. JESUS is not the old man in the sky... not just a prayer partner...
LORD OF ALL OR NOT LORD AT ALL... KING OF KINGS, LORD OF LORDS...
Ephes. 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the
wiles of the devil.
B. JESUS COMES IN THE LINAGE OF DAVID...
Romans 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that
loved us.
C. THERE IS A GREATER THAN >/>/> AMOUNG US.
1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he
that is in you, than he that is in the world.
CONCLUSION:
David seemed so trapped? It was God's plan being fruit...
The battle of life is the battle between the SPIRIT and the FLESH...
David spent 7 1/2 years at Hebron, he learned his lessons and the KINGDOM WAS UNITED...
Romans 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life
and peace.
Let us reap the benefits of the spirit!
