I. WANT TO DISCUSS A NEW LIFE?
DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE COUPLE THAT WORKED ALL THEIR LIVES AND
SAVE MONEY AND INVESTED WISELY?
A.They finally achieved financial security.
They purchased a huge double axle motor home.
They never needed sleeping bags, building a fire, hauling water from streams...
Their new motor home was so nice. It had running water, hot or cold.
They rented a concrete slab to park level. They hooked up to water lines, sewer lines,
electricity...
They had a satellite dish and NET FLEX... they could order any movie on the market.
They never had to fight a fire or smoke, THEY COULD GO CAMPING OUTSIDE AND
STAY INSIDE IN HEAT AND AIR CONDITIONING with a huge screen digital television...
B. THEY HAD A BRAND NEW LIFE... IN NEW SURROUNDINGS, BUT STAYED
TRAPPED BY OLD HABITS AND OLD LIFE-STYLES... nothing changed...
they may have driven to a new place but they continued their old ways...
C. THERE WAS NOTHING REALLY NEW... THEY HAD THE COMFORTS OF THEIR
OLD WAYS...
MAYBE IN JESUS WE NEED TO LET GO OF SOME OF THE OLD STUFF AND
COMFORTABLE PATTERNS
TO GAIN A NEW ATTITUDE AND A NEW LIFE OF JOY AND PRAISE????
II. HOW CAN I CHANGE YOU?
WHAT HAPPENS TO NEWLY-WEDS?
HOW WONDERFUL THE HONEY-MOON PERIOD IS IN LIFE?
A. Can you tell me where HONEYMOONS GO?
B. WHILE WE ARE DATING OPPOSITES ATTRACT...
WHEN WE ARE MARRIED OPPOSITES ATTACK!
C. Maybe the honeymoon last from the bridal toast to the burnt toast?
Maybe the honeymoon is the time between dating and DEBATING?
Seems we make a fuss over each other until we make a fuss with each other...
D. HOW CAN I CHANGE YOU... OUR MOTTO OF DESTRUCTION...
III. GOD CAN CHANGE A MAN FROM A DONKEY CHASER TO AN ANOINTED
MAN OF GOD BECOMING A NEW MAN WITH A NEW HEART AND A NEW LIFE
AND A NEW ATTITUDE...
A. SAUL WAS ASSIGNED LITTLE MENIAL CHORES...
SAUL MUST HAVE KNOWN THERE HAS TO BE MORE TO LIFE THAN CHASING
DAD'S DONKEYS...
B. Saul found a NEW THING SPENDING TIME WITH THE OLD PREACHER...
C. Your life can change when you hear CLEAR DIRECTIONS FROM GOD...
1 Samuel 10:6 And the Spirit of the Lord will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy
with them, and shalt be turned into another man.
Ever feel like you are chasing donkeys?
D. NEW IS A GIFT OF GOD... WHY SETTLE FOR THE SAME OLD...
1 Samuel 10:9 And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel,
God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.
10 And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the
Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.
11 And it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied
among the prophets, then the people said one to another, What is this that is come unto
the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?
12 And one of the same place answered and said, But who is their father? Therefore it
became a proverb, Is Saul also among the prophets?
IV. LET US CHANGE THE RULES... AND PLEAD IGNORANCE...
HOW INSANE IS IT TO TRY AND CHANGE EVERYONE ELSE...
AND YOU STAY THE SAME?
A. ELI SAW A TERRIBLE BATTLE COMING AGAINST GOD'S GOD'S ...
B. A FAMILY REFUSES TO REPENT, CHANGE AND BECOME NEW...
Hophi and Phinehas knew this battle will be a total loss WITHOUT GOD GOING
WITH US...
They had the external WORSHIP DOWN TO A TEE...
GRAB THE ARK OF THE COVENANT...
THEN SHOUT REAL LOUD...
1 Samuel 4:4 So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from thence the ark
of the covenant of the Lord of hosts, which dwelleth between the cherubims: and the
two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the
covenant of God.
5 And when the ark of the covenant of the Lord came into the camp, all Israel shouted
with a great shout, so that the earth rang again.
1 Samuel 4:11 And the ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and
Phinehas, were slain.
C. THERE WAS NOTHING NEW IN THE CAMP...
THE ARK OF THE COVENANT FELL INTO THE HANDS OF THE PHILISTINES...
V. THE ARK OF THE COVENANT IS IN A NEW PLACE...
THE ENEMY DEVELOPED A GREAT RESPECT FOR THE ARK OF GOD...
A. THE NEW THING IN THE ENEMY'S HANDS BACKFIRES...
1. Their old god: Dagon is destroyed...
2. SICKNESS COMES AND MANY DIE...
B. THE PHILISTINES KNEW THEY BETTER TRY SOMETHING NEW...
C. If the old is not working try something new...
1 Samuel 6:7 Now therefore make a new cart, and take two milch kine, on which
there hath come no yoke, and tie the kine to the cart, and bring their calves home
from them:
D. Make a NEW CART...
Get two milk cows
The milk cows will have baby calves
E. IF THE MILK COWS WILL LEAVE THEIR BABIES...
THIS MUST BE THE NEW THING WE NEED...
VI. SO THE NEW CART, THE NEW THING RETURNS THE ARK OF GOD HOME...
GOD DOES NOT ALLOW THE NEW CART FOR HIS PEOPLE...
THEY KNOW BETTER, THE ARK OF THE COVENANT WAS NEVER SUPPOSED
TO BE CARRIED ON A NEW CART... GOD'S PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN
BETTER...
A. The heathens NEW CART worked for them...
B. GOD'S PEOPLE KNEW BETTER...
You better do things the right way... or the highway...
2 Samuel 6:3 And they set the ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the
house of Abinadab that was in Gibeah: and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab,
drave the new cart.
4 And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab which was at Gibeah,
accompanying the ark of God: and Ahio went before the ark.
5 And David and all the house of Israel played before the Lord on all manner of
instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and
on cornets, and on cymbals.
6 And when they came to Nachon's threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the
ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it.
C. BEFORE YOU GET MAD AT GOD...
YOU BETTER DO MORE THAN PLAY WORSHIP... DO IT RIGHT...
2 Samuel 6:7 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote
him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.
8 And David was displeased, because the Lord had made a breach upon Uzzah:
and he called the name of the place Perezuzzah to this day.
VII. WE HAVE A BIG PROBLEM.... THIS OLD WATER BRINGS BARRENNESS,
DEATH, NO NEW LIFE... GET A NEW BOWL ...
AND BRING ME THE NEW BOWL...
A. Our problem is very serious and there is nothing we can do...
B. We only have one source of water...
This water contains something that aborts NEW LIFE...
C. RECKON GOD HAS A PLAN TO HELP....
GET A NEW BOWL... AND SALT...
2 Kings 2:20 And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they
brought it to him.
21 And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and
said, Thus saith the Lord, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from
thence any more death or barren land.
D. DO NOT BRING ME AN OLD BOWL... BRING A NEW... SALT...
AND THE WATER BECOMES LIVING WATER...
VIII. ISAIAH LEARNED SOME GREAT LESSONS ABOUT GOD...
ISAIAH KNEW GOD HAD NEED TO DISPOSE OF THE FORMER...
AND BRING ON THE NEW...
A. Sometimes we need to bury the old man...
Isaiah 42:9 Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I
declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.
B. It is not enough to bury the old...
ARISE IN THE NEW... water in the desert.
Isaiah 43:19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?
I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
C. Forget the OLD... don't allow your past to effect your present...
Isaiah 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall
not be remembered, nor come into mind.
IX. WE HAVE A NEW COVENANT, GOOD, BETTER BEST...
THE BLOOD OF GOATS, COWS WAS A TYPE TO COME...
JESUS, GOD'S ONLY SON WOULD ONCE AND FOR ALL TEAR THE VEIL AND
ESTABLISH A BEST COVANANT...
Jeremiah 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant
with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Luke 22:20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament
in my blood, which is shed for you.
1 Corinthians 11:25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped,
saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it,
in remembrance of me.
Hebrews 9:15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by
means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament,
they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
Hebrews 10:20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil,
that is to say, his flesh;
X. APPARENTLY SOME LOOK FOR THE NEW COMMANDMENT...
THEY DO NOT LIKE THE OLD ONES?
John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have
loved you, that ye also love one another.
XI. LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT A NEW GRAVE...
JOSEPH LOANED JESUS A NEW GRAVE...
Matthew 27:60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and
he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.
XII. WE NEED TO COME TO GOD FOR A NEW ATTITUDE, A NEW HEART AND
A NEW SPIRIT...
Ezekiel 18:31 Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have
transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die,
O house of Israel?
Ezekiel 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you:
and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
Ephesians 4:23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and
true holiness.
Colossians 3:10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge
after the image of him that created him:
Revelation 21:5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new.
And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
CONCLUSION: Why dream of being someone else... BE WHO YOU ARE...
KNOW WHAT GOD HAS CALLED YOU TO BE...
Don't forever stay the same... BECOME NEW IN CHRIST JESUS...
