“The first day of the week” is a DAY OF MIGHTY MEMORIES — memories that we cannot let die.
1. Dawn of the 1st Day Brought Light
Genesis 1:2–5 (AV)
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
5 ….. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
2. Dawn of this 1st Day Brought Redemption
- Resurrection changes everything
• The first sign an open grave was open
- Mystery?
John 20:1 (AV)
1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
• Then in the evening a living JESUS
- He brings peace, gladness
John 20:19–21 (AV)
19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.
21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
3. Dawn of the 1st Day Brought The H.S
Acts 2:1 (AV)
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
- Pentecost means fifty,
- Actually 50 days from feast of First Fruits.
Leviticus 23:10–11 (AV)
10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest:
11 And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted for you: on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.
Leviticus 23:15–17 (AV)
15 And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven sabbaths shall be complete:
16 Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the LORD.
17 Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals: they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baken with leaven; they are the firstfruits unto the LORD.
Romans 8:23 (AV) 23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have
the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.
