The person of Jesus Christ as revealed in Scripture
In the book of Isaiah chapter six and verse one we have these words, “In the year that king Uzziah died, I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.” Can you imagine the scene that Isaiah saw, there were seraphims; each with six wings and with two they covered their face, with two they covered their feet, and with two they did fly.
“And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory.” The prophet got a glimpse of the Lord of host on the throne high and lifted up.
Remember the scripture in Revelation, that states, “I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end,” and in the Old Testament He is revealed as the, “The root and the off spring of David.” When Jesus was speaking to the Jews in the book of John chapter eight He made this statement, “Verily, verily I say unto you, before Abraham was, I am.”
I want like to share with you some facts concerning Jesus Christ the son of the living God.
The revelation of Jesus the Christ begins in the book of Genesis as the seed of the woman. And in the book of Exodus we see Him as the Passover Lamb, slain before the foundation of the world to take away the sins of the people. In Leviticus the High Priest is a model of Christ who ever intercedes to the Father on our behalf.
The book of Numbers portrays Him as our protector and provider, He was the cloud that protected the children of Israel through the heat of the day and the pillar of fire leading them and providing warmth through the night. In the book of Deuteronomy we see Jesus as prophet like unto Moses. And He is the Captain of our salvation in Joshua.
When we read from the books of Judges, Ruth, First and Second Samuel and First and Second Kings also First and Second Chronicles, He is declared to be the Lord of Host, the Judge and the law giver, our kinsman redeemer, our trusted prophet and reigning King.
Ezra describes Him as our faithful scribe, and in Nehemiah Jesus is the builder of the broken down walls of human life. He is our Mordecai in the book of Ester, and in Job He is referred to as our living Redeemer. In the book of Psalms we have a picture of Him as the good Shepherd.
In Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and the Song of Solomon, He is our wisdom, our lover and bridegroom. The prophet Isaiah said His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the mighty God, the everlasting father and He is the prince of peace.
As you read the book of Jeremiah you see Jesus as the righteous branch and the weeping prophet in Lamentations. And as the prophets continue to write about Him, He is Daniel’s pillow in the lions den, the fourth man in the fiery furnace of life, the faithful husband and the Holy Spirit baptizer, the one who bears our burdens and He is mighty to save.
Jonah refers to Him as our foreign missionary; in Micah He is messenger with beautiful feet. In Naham He is the avenger of God’s elect. The last five prophets in the Old Testament presented Jesus as the evangelist, our savior, the one who came to restore God’s lost heritage. The fountain opened in the house of David and the son of righteousness that came with healing in His wings.
I ask you, “What do you think of Jesus the son of God?
What I have shared with you in this exhortation thus far, is the revelation of Jesus the Christ revealed in the Old Testament.
As we move into the New Testament, Jesus is seen in a different light. In Matthew writings, He is presented as the babe in Bethlehem manger, and the coming Messiah and in Mark’s gospel He is the wonder worker.
Luke the physician gives us a look at His humanity, calling Him the Son of Man, while on the other hand John reveals His Divinity, referring to Him as the Son of God.
In the book of Acts Jesus is the one sent to baptize the believers with the Holy Ghost. John said, “There comes one after me, whose shoes I am not worth to bear, and He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire. In the book of Romans He is referred to as the Justifier and Paul speaks of Him as the Sanctifier to the Corinthians.
As you read the letters Paul wrote to the churches we have yet another picture of the Ancient of Days. He is the Christ with unsearchable riches, the God who supplies all our needs. And dwelling in Him is the fullness of the Godhead bodily.
Paul said in the book of Thessalonians that Jesus is the soon coming King. Saying, “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”
The word teaches us He is the mediator between God and Man and is our faithful pastor. Jesus is a friend that will stay closer than a brother because of the everlasting covenant of His blood. He is the great physician and the Chief Shepherd.
The Apostle John called Him love, and in Jude’s writings we see Him as the Lord coming with ten thousand angles. While in the spirit on the Lord’s Day, John the Divine saw Jesus as the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. Saying, “Behold He comes with clouds; and every eye shall se Him, and they also which pierced him; and all kindred’s of the earth shall wail because of Him.”
I ask you, what does Jesus really mean to you? He is a father to the orphans and a husband to the widow. He is bread to those who are hunger and fresh water to the thirsty, and a rock in a weary land.
He is the bright and morning star, the lily of the valley, the rose of Sharon, and like honey in the rock. Jesus is the brightness of God’s glory and the express image of the person of God.
Jesus is the rod and staff that comforts, the pearl of great price, the King of glory. He was Abel’s sacrifice, Noah’s rainbow, Abraham’s ram, Isaac’s well and Jacob’s scepter. He was Moses’ rod an Elijah’s mantle, Gideon’s fleece, David’s sling and to Isaiah’s He was the high and lifted up one.
He was Peter’s shadow, Paul’s handkerchief and John’s Pearly White City, the one coming down from God out of heaven and our soon coming King. He is the revealed Son of righteousness.
He is a way maker, “Jesus is a way maker, Jesus is a way maker, and one day He made a way for me. I was lost and in my sins, then Jesus came and took me in. He really made a way for me, and you and you. He is the giver of life, the sustainer of life. He’s more than wonderful, miraculous that’s what Jesus really means to me.
