# 2 ~ ONE & TWO ~ THE MEANING OF BIBLE NUMBERS ~ 10-8-11
We mentioned last time a few things to do with the number “one” so today I’ll point out some other things to do with this number “one” and then we’ll move on. This number (1) is used 2371times throughout the Word of God.
ONE is the number in the Bible that stands for UNITY; UNITY is an important Bible doctrine. It symbolized the UNITY OF GOD. It stands for that which is unique and alone.
Being the prime number, this signifies beginning. So, ONE stands in Scripture for source, unity, sovereignty, creation, and chiefly God (the first, or creative, PERSON OF THE TRINITY.
In the Hebrew language there are two words for ONE.
1st. "ECHAD" meaning a compound or collective UNITY such as, ONE crowd, ONE flock, ONE group etc.
The second word is "YACHEED", meaning absolute UNITY or UNIQUENESS.
The 1st. word "ECHAD" is used many times in the Scriptures, the second "YACHEED", is used only TWELVE times, and seems always to refer in type to the Lord Jesus, the Only ONE.
The first time this word "YACHEED" is found is in
Genesis 22:2 Take now thy son, thine only son, [one and only] Isaac, whom thou lovest --
This is the first clear type of Him who is the Only Begotten Son.
In the Crucifixion Psalm,
Psalm 22:20 this word "YACHEED" is found again. Here Jesus is called "My Darling"
Literal meaning MY ONLY ONE.
The last place this word "YACHEED" is found in the Old Testament is in Zechariah 12:10 which states that the Jew "will mourn as one mourneth for his only son--ONE."
Zechariah 12:10 They shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for Him as one mourneth for his only son. “ONE”
Here is a clear reference to the Lord Jesus, the only hope for hell-deserving sinners.
These scriptures reveal two truths ==
1. That the Lord God had only ONE Begotten Son whom He was giving for the life of the world.
2. There can only be true UNITY in Jewish national life and union with God when they recognize their Messiah as the ONE whom they have rejected.
In Deuteronomy 6:4, the other word, "echad" is used for "ONE LORD", showing that God is a UNIT.
Three Persons in ONE God, so here we have early in the Scripture proof of the great doctrine of the Trinity.
Then the Holy Spirit reveals the fact that there is a Millennium on the way, that there will be UNITY of rule,
Zechariah 14:9 And the Lord shall be King over all the earth; in that day shall there be ONE Lord, and His Name ONE.
In addition, it will happen on ONE special day, as verse 7 tells us:
Zechariah 14:7 But it shall be ONE day, which shall be known to the Lord, not day nor night: but it shall come to pass that at evening time it shall be light.
Therefore, what we are told here is of that glorious period of “UNITY of rule under ONE King” & it’s marked by ONE day, "not day, nor night"
The number ONE is given in the FIRST chapter of the Bible to do with the first creation day through the Millennium -- UNITY and LIGHT.
In the Revelation we find the Lord describing Himself in the first chapter as well as in the last
Chapter as, "The First and the Last", then to the church of Ephesus points out to them “thou hast left thy FIRST love”
Christ is "the FIRST", and He must come FIRST in the hearts and lives of all His redeemed. He is the LIGHT, and only as we walk in the LIGHT, shall we have fellowship one with another, and have UNITY, much as was the Pentecostal days,
ACTS 2: 44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common; (UNITY) ----46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple—
THE NUMBER TWO== DIVISION & WITNESSING
This number “TWO” is used 966 times in the Bible. There was a symbolic significance in the fact that Jesus sent His disciples forth TWO by TWO, TWO witnesses confirmed the truth, and their testimony which otherwise would have been weak was made strong.
Always this number TWO meant more strength, redoubled energy, confirmed power.
The Union of Marriage,
Genesis 2:23-24 and they shall be one flesh. Here we have man and woman, TWO, joined together by God to become ONE.
The Union of Christ and the Church shows us the power and strength we possess when we are joined unto Christ.
Ephesians 5:31-32 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
The Union of the TWO Natures in Man.
When the New Nature over takes the old nature we then possess power and strength in the Lord.
There were "TWO Tables of Testimony", and "TWO Witnesses" were necessary to a fair trial, and "TWO Witnesses" will testify during the Tribulation Period. Revelation 11:3 whom we believe to be MOSES AND ELIJAH.
This number also has a two-fold implication in a good and an evil sense.
In its favorable implication it speaks of a covenant** (an agreement between two parties), that is one party helping another one; by the Lord Jesus Christ we can be saved. Eph.2:9--“not of works lest any man should boast”
Therefore it stands for the second or redemptive Person of the Trinity.
In its evil sense it implies division, separation, and strife. Two is a divider, Satan wants to divide every church every home and every nation that he possible can. Satan or his evil work is found in just about every book of the Bible, but his evil work is always found in the second epistles of the N.T. and most of the time in chapter 2: of the 2nd epistles.
Listen as I read them to you and note that Satan the DIVIDER is found in the second of the epistles, either Satan himself or his work.
Second cor.2:11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
Two Corinthians 4: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
Second thess.2: 7-9 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 8And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
Second tim.2: 26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
Second pt. 2: 1-2 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
Second John 7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. [Work of Satan]
When the earth lay in chaos in Genesis 1:2 its condition was universal, RUIN and DARKNESS formed a blanket over the universe.
The SECOND thing recorded in connection with CREATION was the introduction of a SECOND THING — LIGHT; and right away there was a DIFFERENCE and DIVISION, for God Divided the LIGHT from the DARKNESS.
DIVISION is the characteristic of the SECOND DAY
Genesis 1:6 Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it DIVIDE the waters from the waters.
So here we have DIVISION connected with the SECOND day, and affirming its meaning.
The great significance of “TWO”, in its SPIRITUAL SENSE, is maintained throughout the Word of God.
The SECOND of any number of things always bears upon it the stamp of DIFFERENCE, and generally it’s in regard to enmity** (hostility).
For instance’ the second statement in the Bible say’s in
Gen.1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.
The FIRST said in Genesis 1:1 in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Notice- the FIRST speaks of UNITY and order, the SECOND of DIVISION AND DESOLATION.
The SECOND section of the book of Genesis is
Genesis 2:4-4:26 **added=18 # for bondage. (Notice all the “2’s” to do with the second division), and it contains the account of the fall; along with the entrance of the SECOND being—the Enemy— "the old serpent", the Devil, and let’s be sure and notice that it introduces discord, sin and death.
Enmity** (hostility) is seen for the first time in the SECOND division.
Genesis 3:15 God said, “I will put enmity between thy seed and her seed.” [Two seeds]
So here we have the enemy, a SECOND, in the serpent; also a SECOND creature in the woman who was deceived and in the transgression; a SECOND man in the seed of the woman (First prophecy of Christ in Gen.3:15).
In the SECOND book (Exodus) opens with "the OPPRESSION of the ENEMY".
However, here, again is seen "Another", the Deliverer and Redeemer, Who says, Exodus 3:8 “I am come down to deliver." (#14)
What may be called the great separation chapter of the Old Testament is found in Genesis 19, where we have the separation of Lot and his two daughters from those who are destroyed in their sins.
The chapter 19 of Gen. is full of the figure TWO.-
In verse 1 we have "TWO angels".
In verse 4 we have "TWO classes of age," "old and young."
In verse 8 we have "TWO daughters."
In verse 11 we have TWO classes of standing, "small and great".
In verse 17 we have TWO places, "the plain", the place of danger, and the mountain", the place of safety.
In verse 24, we have TWO cities destroyed, Sodom and Gomorrah.
In the same verse we have TWO agents of destruction "brimstone and fire."
In verse 3 and 30 we have TWO dwelling places-- verse 3, "his house", and verse 30 , "a cave."'
In verse’s 37 and 38 we have TWO children, Moab, father of the Moabites and Ben-Ammi., father of the Ammonites.
