Lead Me To The Rock

Ps 61:2

2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Devils Tower WY (a volcanic neck)

- Said to be known among the Indians as Bear’s Tipi

"misinterpreted the name to mean Bad God's Tower, later shortened to Devils Tower.

- President Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed Devils Tower the first

national monument in 1906.

- Devils Tower with it’s vertical face rises 867 from base to

summit.

- The top is domed shape 400'x200' 1 1/2 acres. (roughly size of a

football field)

- The first accent was in 1893 using pegs to make a ladder to the

top

- The first technical climb was made June 1937

- George Hopkins was the only person to climb down the Tower –

without climbing up first! In 1941

- Parachuted onto the top

- He could not get down and hd to wait 6 days for a rescue

- It is impossible to reach the top without mountain climbing

experience.

- Of almost a half million visitors to devils Tower only 1% reach

the top

- The thing here:

- Few climb His heights

- “From the end of the earth” – His wit’s end

Loneliness overwhelm us

Ps 61:3

3 For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.

- A Tower or fortress has four sides

• Rock of Strength

Ps 62:2, 6 Identical except added “greatly”

2 He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.

• Rock of Stability

Mal 3:6

6 For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.

• Rock of Safety

Ps 27:5

5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.

• Rock of Shelter

Is 32:2

2 And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

Ps 18:2-3

2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. 3 I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

When there is Nothing else to hang on to, hang on to God. He is More than we could ever need!
