Grace Gets it Done Psalm 118:22-24
The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. 23 This was the LORD’s doing; It is marvelous in our eyes. 24 This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.
Most theologies agree that Moses is the author of Psalm 118, and in Deuteronomy 18:15 Moses said that God would raise up another prophet like himself. Because of NT insight and revelation, we now understand that Christ became the fulfillment of these passages. Listen to Peter’s words, in Acts 4:11 This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone. And then, I Peter 2:7 Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient,“ The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone,”
What does it mean to believe? It means you look to the cross, because what Jesus accomplished through the cross means life and peace forever for those who believe.
Through the cross, sin isn’t a stronghold anymore, Your past is covered by Jesus’ blood, sorrow has been trader for joy, sickness is healed forever, lust has no dominion rule over you.
Sounds good in theory, but how do I work it out? You don’t, you remember the cross.
“Cross equals grace, and grace is God’s ability to do in you what you can’t.”
Did Jesus take your sin? Did Jesus bare your past? Did Jesus pay for your thought life? Did Jesus resist every temptation? We become dead to sin only through the cross.
Listen to I Peter 2:21-24NIV To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. 22"He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth."23When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. 24He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.
Healed of what? Healed of everything. You aren’t only heaven ready, but now, you are earth ready!
Remember this:
Live daily through His life, death, burial and resurrection.
Sin has no dominion.
Jesus is bigger than anything.
Christ finished all works. (You do, only out of love)
Listen to Colossians 2:8-10NASB See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. 9For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, 10and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority;
When you visualize the cross you should picture completeness.
Colossians 2:10 say’s, you have been made complete in Him. Complete meaning, through Christ you have all the necessary equipment to win! He gave you a Spiritual PHD!
When Christ was on the cross:
1. He cried, “Why have You forsaken Me?”
2. “Father, into your hands I commit My Spirit.”
Another writer records Christ saying, “It is finished.”
*Psalm 118:23 This was the LORD’s doing; It is marvelous in our eyes.
I believe Moses is saying, when you get a hold of the Lord’s doings, ( The completeness of the cross) it will become marvelous in your eyes!
God gave the law unto Moses to bring men back unto Him, He give mankind a sin conscience through the law, so they would recognize their need for the One and only true and living Savior.
Are you more sin conscience or grace (Christ) conscience?
Galatians 2:16NKJ knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.
Most believers don’t believe. You don’t believe when you try to fix sin, stop sin, defeat sin, It’s called living by the law. Jesus DE-FEATED SIN!
Matthew 5:17NLT Jesus said, Don't misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.
*Psalm 118:24NKJ This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
In John Wesley’s notes he writes about verse 24, This is the day, meaning it’s been sanctified as a season never to be forgotten.
Matthew Henry say’s The psalmist praises God, and calls upon all about him to give thanks to God for the glad tidings of great joy to all people, that there is a Redeemer, even Christ the Lord. In him the covenant of grace is made sure and everlasting.
Illustration: With my hands, I show the picture of most looking to the cross plus other things. Again, with my hands, I show the picture of few who only see the cross.
We shall rejoice today because we are free, grace is given, chains are broken and life is forever!
