There is a great need to encourage your pastor in this day and time. This is a generation of unreasonable and wicked men. Paul directs us in the text to encourage one another. Solomon says in Proverbs 12:25, that anxiety bends a man’s spirit but a glad word will make his heart glad. I believe that it is urgent to realize the importance of such a ministry. The word encourage is derived from the prefix (en) and the suffix (cour; en means into and cour means strenght or firmness. The combining of the two simply means to put strenght or firmness into your pastor. The word discourage is the reciprocal, it means to take the courage out of the man or woman of God. There are many ways to break a pastor’s spirit or weaken his courage. Lets us consider them:
Murmuring will break a pastor’s spirit.
Discord will break a pastor’s spirit.
Division will break a pastor’s spirit.
Talebearers will break a pastor’s spirit.
Liars will break a pastor’s spirit.
Lukewarmness will break a pastor’s spirit.
Unreasonable people will break a pastor’s spirit.
Here are some things you can do to encourage your pastor:
I. PRAY FOR HIM PRIVATELY AND PUBLICLY.
II. PLACE THE MEASURING STICK IN THE NON-RECYCLE BIN.
III. PARTNER WITH HIM IN MINISTRY.
IV. PROMOTE PEACE AND UNITY AMONG THE SAINTS.
V. PROVIDE FOR HIS TOTAL NEED.
VI. PREACH HIS SERMONS IN THE COMMUNITY.
VII. PUT THE PEW PASTORS IN THEIR PLACE.
VIII. PUSH HIS VISION.
IX. PATIENT WITH LONG SERMONS.
X. PREVENT THE SPREAD OF THE GOSSIP.
X1. PROCLAIM THE JOY OF THE LORD, UNTIL THE CHEIF SHEPHERD APPEARS.
