JOHN 5:39
Today we’ll talk for a little while about some of the O.T. prophecies to do with the promised Messiah, and then we’ll read the N.T. scriptures to do with them being fulfilled.
Listen as I read today’s text found in John 5: 39- Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
But before we began to read the O.T. prophecies to do with the promised Messiah, and then reading the N.T. scriptures to do with them being fulfilled, I want to point out a passage in Rev. 11: that will bless your heart.
If there may be any skeptics that might be listening I want you especially to listen, brothers and sisters be sure you mark your bible.
The reason I want you to hear this scripture in Rev. 11: 3-9 is to show us that the writers of the Bible, as they were pinning down scripture as the Holy Spirit directed them to pin it down, did not understand what much of it meant, or how it could possible come to pass.
Listen as I read Rev. 11: 3-9 3And I will give power unto my two witnesses,** and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days,** clothed in sackcloth. 4These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. 5And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.
6These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: *{1st kings 17:} and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.** {Egypt}
7And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit **shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
8And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.**
9And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see **their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.
Notice; John said that they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see **their dead bodies—notice “shall see” their dead bodies—
Realize; that John did not have a clue to do about Satellites or Television, and yet he wrote down exactly what he was told to.
I’m sure that down through the ages as people have read these verses that they must have wondered how this Prophecy could ever be fulfilled. ***
Today you and I can completely understand how this is going to take place, television has not been around all that long, I can remember as a boy when T.V, first come out, and as people begin to buy them was visited often just so the folks not yet with a T.V. would come to watch it. I recall some of the men folks would gather to watch “Wednesday night” wrestling.
But today most people have televisions, some time more than one, it has become to us today as not a big deal because we’ve become used to them.
But John certainly had not a clue to do with TV’s.
And what about the Prophet Daniel as he pinned downed the vision of the Gentiles rule on earth as he told of the image of Daniel 2:, Daniel didn’t understand what the image meant to do with the Babylonia, Medo Persian, the Grecian and revived Roman empire could have meant, and now today the history classes through out the world understand it perfectly, it’s taught in the history classes.
Listen dear heart, this Bible is true and accurate from cover to cover, God has placed these wonderful truths and facts through out His Word to reveal to all, that we’d best heed its Words.
To me passages such as these are undeniable proof that God can be trusted and it’s a factual warning that people need to be saved and be ready for the rapture because just as sure as these verses are proof of its reality so are the ones to do with heaven and hell. If your not saved don’t put it off another minute, you don’t realize what danger your in remaining lost and in your sins.
Ask God right now to forgive you of your sins and invite Jesus to come into your heart and life, if you’ll ask Him in child like faith He’ll save you right now, you don’t have to be in a Church house to be saved, the thief on the cross was saved as he was about to die there hanging on the cross beside Jesus. JN. 6: 37—he that cometh to me I willl in no wise cast out.
You might say, but you don’t know what I’ve done, no I don’t know what you’ve done, but you don’t know what He’s done. He has paid for our sins if we’ll accept His payment as being our Substitute; He died in our place in order that we would not have to die in our sins. All mankinds sin debt, He has paid, if only men and women would receive His payment. But the sad fact is people are dying and going to hell ever second with their sin debt paid, and yet these people reject His payment.
Now then lets read a few of the O.T. prophecies telling of the coming Messiah and then we’ll read from the N.T. of them being fulfilled in Jesus.
Again our text verse reads in John 5: 39- Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
He was talking to the Jews at that time, let me say that we can know this Bible inside and out but if we don’t receive the Savior of the Bible as our Savior it will not do us any good, even the Devil knows what the scripture says but its to late for him.
God promised a new covenant, which means a new testament to Israel in --
JER. 31: 31-34 31Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: 32Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
33But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
34And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
++ Hebrews 8: 6-7 6But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. 7For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.

THE MESSIAH was to be born in Bethlehem:
Micah 5: 2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
++ Matthew 2: 1-6 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, 2Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. 3When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born. 5And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet, 6And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

Messiah was to born of a virgin:
Isaiah 7: 14 14Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Let me say that most young women can have a baby, but there is not another virgin that can have one.
++Matthew 1: 18-25 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. 19Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. 20But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
21And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. 22Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. 24Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: 25And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

The Messiah was to be a Prophet like Moses:
Deut. 18:15 + 18-19 The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;
18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. 19 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.
++Acts 3: 22-26 22For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you.
23 And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.
24 Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days.
25 Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.
26 Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.

The Messiah was to enter into Jerusalem in triumph.
Zechariah 9: 9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.
++John 12: 12-16 12On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.
14 And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, 15Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt.
16 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.
The Messiah was to be rejected of His own people:
Isaiah 53: 1-3 1Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? 2For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
3He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Psalm 118: 22-23 22The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner. 23 This is the LORD’S doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.
++John 1: 11-12 11He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
And there is many many more, but our time is just about gone for today, these precious verses should be a blessing to our hearts and strengthen our faith, there are many other Prophecies to do with His 2nd coming that will literally be fulfilled just as surely these that we have read were fulfilled at His 1st coming.
