How to Keep a Job in Tough Times James 1:19
19 So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;
In front of this verse in my Bible it reads: Qualities Needed in Trials. God doesn’t step out on us when we are going through a difficult time, but we have the tendency to leave Him out of certain parts (are fames) of our life, and this always brews trouble! Eighty percent of the time people don’t lose their job because of technical incompetence, but because of relational incompetence.
They don’t know how to get along with people. If we will master the 3 instructions that James gives, the likelihood of losing your job will go down to just about zero.
Vs. 19a So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, (The NIV say’s, Be quick to listen.)
By staying clam and refusing to react, you gain insight and respect!
Proverbs 29:11 A fool vents all his feelings, (Anger) But a wise man holds them back.
James 1:19b be slow to speak,
If you tend to talk too much here’s 3 tips to slow you down. 1. Stop. (Just stop talking.) Count, take a deep breathe. Excuse yourself and go to the bathroom. 2. Practice not interrupting. (Allow the other person to continue talking until they are through.) 3. Ask yourself why am I talking too much? Is it insecurity? Anxiety? The need to control? A desire to impress? Maybe it’s a trust issue? I can’t trust God to work it out, so I try to help Him.
Proverbs 3:5-8 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil. 8 It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones.
James 1:19c and be slow to anger! (If you will observe the first two principles you’ll generally come out all right on this one!)
There’s feeding factors behind anger: A lot of times alcoholic parent, or sexual abuse. The Bible teaches us not to provoke your children to anger.
Remember Cain and Abel? There’s usually some hidden problem or sin behind anger! Dig and pray.
