Judgment Belongs unto God Text: Romans 2:1-16
Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things. 2 But we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who practice such things. 3 And do you think this, O man, you who judge those practicing such things, and doing the same, that you will escape the judgment of God? 4 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? 5 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, 6 who “will render to each one according to his deeds”: 7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; 8 but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—indignation and wrath, 9 tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek; 10 but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 11 For there is no partiality with God. 12 For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law will be judged by the law 13 (for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified; 14 for when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves, 15 who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them) 16 in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.
Contrast can be seen in this chapter between God’s love and His wrath. The Jews thought themselves a holy people, entitled to their privileges by right, but they were unthankful, rebellious, and unrighteous. The ruin of sinners is their walking after a hard and shameless heart. Their sinful doings are expressed by the strong words, "Treasuring up wrath." But all who act thus, of every nation, age, and description, must be reminded that the judgment of God will be according to their real character. The case is so plain, that we may appeal to the sinner’s own thoughts. In every willful sin, there is contempt of the goodness of God. Paul expresses the truth by writing that secret services shall be rewarded; secret sins shall be then punished, and brought to light.
Vs.1 Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.
Inexcusable! Listen to the definition for inexcusable; impossible to excuse or justify; unpardonable.
Being condemned yourself because of self-judgment! For whatever you judge, you will be judged yourself! (Scary!)
Romans 2:2 But we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who practice such things.
God’s judgment is 100% accurate! Listen to Romans 14:12-13 So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. 13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way.
Romans 2:3 And do you think this, O man, you who judge those practicing such things, and doing the same, that you will escape the judgment of God?
It has been proven by psychology that those who are harsh on a person by their judgment or jealously many times are practicing the same thing!
Romans 2:4 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?
Paul writes, “Allow the riches of God’s goodness, love, forbearance and longsuffering to lead you to repent!”
II Cor. 8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.
Go back to the text, Romans 2:5-10 NLT 5 But because you are stubborn and refuse to turn from your sin, you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself. For a day of anger is coming, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed. 6 He will judge everyone according to what they have done. 7 He will give eternal life to those who keep on doing good, seeking after the glory and honor and immortality that God offers. 8 But he will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and instead live lives of wickedness. 9 There will be trouble and calamity for everyone who keeps on doing what is evil—for the Jew first and also for the Gentile. 10 But there will be glory and honor and peace from God for all who do good—for the Jew first and also for the Gentile.
According unto God’s word there are only two sides: God’s side or the enemies side! God’s side is full of grace, love and forgiveness, but Satan’s side is full of self, flesh, angry and judgement!
Romans 2:11 For there is no partiality with God.
The longer I live the more meaningful this verse is! God wants to treat everyone the same. He desires to pour His love, truth, and anointing on all!
Going back to the text, Romans 2:12-16 NLT 12 When the Gentiles sin, they will be destroyed, even though they never had God’s written law. And the Jews, who do have God’s law, will be judged by that law when they fail to obey it. 13 For merely listening to the law doesn’t make us right with God. It is obeying the law that makes us right in his sight. 14 Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it. 15 They demonstrate that God’s law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right. 16 And this is the message I proclaim—that the day is coming when God, through Christ Jesus, will judge everyone’s secret life.
God sees every human heart, and His grace is seen best when men turn completely unto Him!
