Our Assignment Text: Genesis 12:1-3
Our assignment becomes new and fresh when we are born again. The day we allowed Jesus Christ to come and reside within, we became assigned unto His mission, His calling and His way of thinking! Listen, God always works through assignments! God doesn’t function through happenstance, God works through assignments! God has given unto us personal assignments; moreover, He has given us corporate assignments!
There is a doctrine that is called ‘Election’ it teaches that only some are called, chosen and saved, but I thank God that there is another doctrine that comes straight from God’s word. In John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He give His only Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
This doctrine is called “Freewill but I’m going to call it “Whosoever!” (God’s looking for whosoever!) Esther was a whosoever, the woman at the well was a whosoever, Paul was a whosoever, the jailer who was about to take his own life was a whosoever and you were a whosoever!
I believe God give Adam and Eve an assignment- He also give Cain an assignment- He also give Abel an assignment. In Genesis 11 God give Terah an assignment, and He also gives Abram an assignment! As you think about these names you can quickly see that very few men and women followed God’s assignment! (Abraham did by faith.)
Genesis 12:1-3 Now the LORD had said to Abram:” Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you.2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you. And make your name great; and you shall be a blessing.3 I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
It’s a good time to remember we are of the seed of Abraham! God told Abram “Get out” but once he came out he followed God’s assignment! James 2: 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”And he was called the friend of God.
Listen to these promises that God gives Abraham. I will show you the land. I will make you a great nation. I will bless you. I will make your name great. You will be a blessing. I will bless them that bless you. I will curse them that curse you. In you all nations (Families) will be blessed!
There are people all around you right now who fall into three categories some people make things happen, some people watch things happen, and some people wonder what happened!
Abraham decided to follow God and (make things happen) because he believed! ( Yes, Abraham heard from God, but he still had to walk it out daily and make things happen!)
Romans 4:3 …Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
Abraham had gospel faith-the faith that is spoken of in Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him; for he that comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.
Abraham was a James 1: 5-8 gospel believer. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
Let’s look at Abraham’s assignment, so we can better understand our assignment. Did you know that the Bible say’s in the book of Romans 4: 17-25 (as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations” in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did; 18 who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, “So shall your descendants be.”[19 And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. 20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, 21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. 22 And therefore “it was accounted to him for righteousness.” 23 Now it was not written for his sake alone that it was imputed to him, 24 but also for us. It shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, 25 who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.
As you trust, believe and walk with God; God will quicken the dead or give life back to dead things, and He will also call those things which do not exist as though they did!
Did you know that our life, faith, salvation and joy in Jesus Christ should be so strong that it provokes the Jews into jealously for what we have received! ( Romans 11:11)
Hear this word, “don’t say you’re the seed of Abraham if you’re not walking and talking like he did!” ( Remember, how Jesus rebuked the Jews for proclaiming Abraham as their father when they didn’t live by faith?)
25 years after God spoke this promise unto Abraham, his soul was so filled with confidence that God’s words would be fulfilled Abraham was bound to God’s promise! Vs.20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith giving glory to God.
The Father is focused on one thing and it’s your assignment. The one thing that Father is focused on is His Kingdom! Remember, how Jesus told us to pray in Matthew 6, Thy Kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Believing in a culture of wrong western thinking has deceived us. When you meet a person for the first time and find out that they are a Christian what is the next question you ask them? (Where do you go to church?)
One to three hours a week at church can’t be our walk with the Lord! (If we aren’t careful we can have a church going mentality instead of a discipleship mentality!)
When you come to church do you bring a notebook? Are you passionate to hear from God?
My assignment cost Jesus God’s son His life. My assignment will cost me! My assignment will generate faith. My assignment will produce in me patience and patience charter and charter-hope! (Romans 5)
This isn’t a loaded question, but how many of you are ready to walk and talk the assignment God has given you?
II Peter 1:3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
It’s yours; it’s your assignment! It’s already been given unto you-will you take it and walk in it? Prayer.
