THE HIGH CHAIR VS THE ELECTRIC CHAIR

I. INTRODUCTION!
A. Did you hear about the little boy that went to Sunday School? His Mom and Dad stayed home. They started asking the lad all about Sunday School class?
The Mom said: WHO WAS YOUR SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER TODAY?
The boy replied, MY SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER WAS JESUS’ GRANDMOTHER!
The dad said: Why do you say such a silly thing?
The boy replied, The old lady talked and talked about Jesus. She just bragged the whole time about Jesus? She must be Jesus’ grandmother!
B. Did you hear the story of the boy that DEVELOPED A BAD HABIT OF SPITTING ALL THE TIME? His Dad made him stand in the closet for 3 minutes.
The Dad opened the door and said Now, son what have you learned?
The boy replied: I SPIT ON THE FLOOR AND I SPIT IN YOUR SHOES.
C. Did you hear about the little girl that had been bad one day? Her punishment was she had to eat supper by herself in the corner.
The dad heard her as she asked the BLESSING on her food.
JESUS --- I THANK YOU FOR PREPARING A TABLE BEFORE ME IN THE PRESENCE OF MY ENEMIES.
D. Mother Hudson had two sons.
The oldest son said he was going to make the Hudson Family name famous. He turned all his efforts toward Politics and the Queen. He ran for PARLIAMENT
and government.
Her second son DECIDED TO GIVE HIS LIFE TO CHRIST JESUS. He set his face toward CHINA and became a WORLD KNOWN MISSIONARY. HUDSON TAYLOR PREACHED CHRIST ON ALL 7 CONTINENTS.
Look the Hudson boys up in the encyclopedia to see what the two sons did...
It says: Hudson Taylor beloved missionary to China and known around the world.
CHARLES HUDSON: The other brother: THE BROTHER OF HUDSON TAYLOR.
One found himself, the other lost himself for the cause of the cross.
II. WHO IS THAT IN THE ELECTRIC CHAIR?
WHO IS THAT IN THE HIGH CHAIR?
NO NATION HAS EVER HAD A BETTER FRIEND THAN A MOTHER THAT TAUGHT HER CHILDREN HOW TO PRAY.
A. I KNOW DEATH ROW. I HAVE BEEN THERE.
I speak neither for nor against the DEATH PENALTY.
I just want to tell you I saw a MOTHER’S SON PUT TO DEATH FOR CRIMES AND SINS COMMITTED.
B. I sat in Potesi, Missouri at midnight and watched a beautiful young man put to death. He was guilty. His sin caught up with him. He brought much shame to his Mother and the family. HIS MOM LOVED HIM UNTIL THE
VERY END.
At 12:15 that night, I went into a motel room with a family with broken hearts, I held a 78 year old woman in my arms as I told her about the DEATH of her son.
C. Have we forgotten in the USA: THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE IS THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE WORLD?
THE DETERRENT TO SIN IS NOT THE ELECTRIC CHAIR!
THE DETERRENT TO SIN IS THE HIGH CHAIR!!!
D. We used to sing a song in our churches:
IF I COULD HEAR MY MOTHER PRAY AGAIN ---
IF I COULD HEAR HER TENDER VOICE AS THEN ---
SHE USED TO PRAY THAT I ON JESUS WOULD RELY ---
E. I am told in World War II churches would be open and Mothers would go in churches and pray for hours for our soldiers on the bloody battle fields.
I am told you could walk up the hollows of Kentucky and hear Mothers sitting in the swings on their front porch as they cried out in prayer for their children.
MANY MOM’S BECAME --- GOLD STARS MOTHERS --- AS THEY GAVE THEIR SONS LIVES FOR THE DEFEAT OF HITLER’S ANTI-GOD MOVEMENT.
F. We have many fancy churches across this land.
You hear of all kinds of meetings, softball, choir practice, dance classes, exercise classes, diet classes, but you never see in the bulletin A CALL TO
PRAYER FOR THE CHILDREN?
G. Jesus said: MY HOUSE SHOULD BE A HOUSE OF PRAYER?
WE ARE IN AN ALL OUT WAR --- SEXUAL PERVERSION, DRUGS, SPORTS, BUT WHERE IS THE MOTHER’S PRAYER?
There is something about THE PRIVATE PRAYER CLOSET? SURE!
But there is something about the COLLECTIVE, CORPORATE PRAYER OF SAINTS COMING TOGETHER IN AGREEMENT!
H. What will the hands in that HIGH CHAIR DO?
Hold the Bible and read vs Hold a Smith & Wesson 357 and take a life?
Will those hands play the guitar at church? Or Rock n Rock in a bar?
Will the hands of that child help old people, or will they PLAY THE GAMBLING WHEEL AT A CASINO?
Will that child’s hands change the band aides on a terminal patient or will the hands shake due to drug/alcohol addiction?
I. Remember how you treat that child today, later on in life they will pick out which rest home you will go?
II. WHAT IS A MOTHER?
A. The word MOTHER IS FIRST SPOKEN IN GENESIS 3:20?
Genesis 3:20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
The word MOTHER IS PROBABLY THE CLOSEST WORD TO JESUS THAT HAS EVER BEEN SPOKEN?
B. There are times when the dictionary fails?
I have searched for the meaning of LOVE?
The dictionary fails when it says: A STRONG EMOTION?
That does not define love?
C. WHAT THE DICTIONARY SAYS ABOUT MOTHER IS A FAILURE AT AN ATTEMPT TO DEFINE MOTHER.
One that gives birth, to produce.
To carry you or protect life.
A female parent.
A woman in authority.
The source origin of life.
Maternal tenderness or affection.
Grandmother, kinswoman, aunt.
D. TO HAVE CHILDREN DOES NOT NECESSARILY MAKE A WOMAN A MOTHER.
Mother does not mean SMOTHER?
III. WOW, MOM!
A. DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE BOY THAT WROTE OUT A FINANICAL STATMENT TO HIS
MOTHER?
Carry out the garbage --- $2.00
Carry in the groceries --- $2.00
Mow the grass --- $5.00
Help do dishes --- $1.00
Made my bed, cleaned my room --- $6.00
Good grades on my report card---$10.00

B. The Mom turned over the bill and wrote:
9 months of carrying you and morning sickness

C. Do you want to hear about one of my most embarrassing moments in my life?
I was in the 4th grade in Clemont County Ohio.
I worked and made $5.00.
I went to the Western Auto store and looked for something to buy my Momma for Mothers Day.
I found 3 embroidered handkerchiefs with a pearl necklace in a beautiful golden box. It was almost $6.00.
I kept looking at the gold box and would lay it down as I didn’t have enough money to buy this for my Mom.
The sales lady came over and asked to help. She knew my Dad was a pastor in town. We talked and I told her I wanted this for my Mom but I didn’t have enough
money.
The sales lady said: I see some dust on the box I probably need to discount it.
She asked how much I had?
I said $5.00.
She sold it to me for $5.00.
I was so proud, the nice lady even helped me gift wrap the pearls and handkerchiefs.
On Sunday morning I was up bright and early, I got my gift and ran it in to Momma.
Mom was so proud of the necklace and handkerchiefs.
She carried one to church that morning.
Well, Monday morning I got to thinking about how much money I had spent, I spent my whole $5.00 on Momma.
I went to Mom and explained to her how much the gift cost, and I asked her for $2.50 back.
Mom quietly walked to her purse and withdrew $2.50 and returned it to me.
I am so embarrassed about my stupidity.
I am surprised Mom never placed me in AN ADOPTION AGENCY?
45 years later I wish I could un-do my stupidity.
NOW I SIT AT MOM’S GRAVE IN FRANKFORT, KENTUCKY AND STAND AMAZED AT MY STUPIDITY AND HER LOVE THAT WOULD RETURN MONEY TO HER SON?
D. WOW, DID YOU KNOW WOW IS MOM UPSIDE DOWN?
I BELIEVE I WILL SAY MOM UPSIDE DOWN AND BACKWARDS --- WOW!
WOW IS THE GIFT OF GOD --- AS GOD GIVES OUR SOCIETY MOM’S!
IV. SEE YOU AT THE DINNER.
HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT OF THE MENU OF OUR FIRST MEAL IN HEAVEN?
WHAT IS OR WHAT WAS YOUR MOM’S SPECIAL COOKING GIFT?
A. My older brother Charles was in Viet Nam. Mom and Dad cried and prayed many times for the boys serving our nation.
One day a POST CARD came from VIET NAM?
On the back my brother wrote how many weeks, days, and hours until he would be home from Viet Nam --- the card made a special order of Mom...
BANANNA PUDDING AND MEAT LOAF.
When my brother flew into the airport, Mom stayed home, we all knew what Mom was doing... When Charles walked in the door, Mom smothered him with LOVE, HUGS, AND KISSES --- and in the middle of the table was the biggest MEATLOAF and BANANNA PUDDING I have ever seen.
We bowed our heads and GAVE THANKS, MOMMA’S SON WAS HOME AGAIN.
The table was sat in splendor, MOM’S SON WAS HOME.
B. IN MY MOM AND DAD’S HOUSE, THE CENTER OF THE LIVING ROOM WAS A BIG PICTURE, IT IS A LONG TABLE AS FAR AS YOU CAN SEE, SET IN GREAT SPLENDOR WITH GOLD FORKS AND SPOONS --- THE CAPTION UNDER THE PICTURE WAS:
SEE YOU AT THE DINNER!
Often when family would come and go at Mom’s house Dad would always say:
SEE YOU AT THE DINNER!
C. Well my friend, LOOK FOR ME, AND I WILL LOOK FOR YOU --- I WANT TO SEE YOU AT THE DINNER!
I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED THAT THE MENU AT THE FIRST SUPPER IN HEAVEN HAS BEEN CHANGED SINCE MY MOM GOT THERE.
I believe we will have COMMUNION TOGETHER, the cup of wine for His blood, the BROKEN BREAD for His body, and then if I know Mom, she will have the
MEATLOAF and BANANNA PUDDING READY FOR HER SON.
V. A REAL MOTHER IS SO MUCH MORE THAN A GIVER OF LIFE.
GOD HONORS BROKEN HEARTED MOTHERS!
A REAL MOTHER INVESTS ALL SHE HAS TO RAISE HER CHILDREN WITH GOD’S PLAN AND PURPOSE.
A. I saw a guestimate that 345,000 people are born a day across this world.
How sad for those born where the Mom is a THORN ---
THORN ---INVOLUTED LEAF, one wrapped up in their self.
I am also told a rough figure that 101 people die a minute without KNOWING JESUS AS THEIR PERSONAL SAVIOR.
THAT IS 146,000 PEOPLE A DAY DYING WITHOUT JESUS, DOOMED TO AN ETERNAL TORMENT.
B. WHAT CAN WE DO? WE NEED OUR MOM’S AND DAD’S TO TURN THEIR HEARTS TOWARD THE ETERNAL VALUE SYSTEM!
C. NAOMI WAS A BROKEN HEARTED WIFE, HER HUSBAND DIED LEAVING HER WITH TWO SONS.
Her two sons married and died very young without any children.
D. ORPAH was a good daughter-in-law, but she went home.
NAOMI WAS BLESSED WITH A CHILD --- RUTH --- THAT WAS NOT HER CHILD, BUT THAT WAS MORE THAN A CHILD TO HER.
Ruth 1:16 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
E. GOD HAD A PLAN --- THERE WAS A KINSMAN REDEEMER NAMED BOAZ. Better than 7 sons?
God made a way for Naomi and Ruth.
Ruth 4:15 And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to
thee than seven sons, hath born him.
F. RUTH LAID A PRECIOUS SON INTO NAOMI’S HOPELESS HANDS, GOD HONORED A FAITHFUL WOMAN! The seed of JESUS --- THE KING OF KINGS WILL COME THROUGH A BROKEN HEARTED MOTHER!
16 And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it.
17 And the women her neighbours gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to
Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David.
VI. WHEN THE ODDS ARE AGAINST YOU --- A PRAYING MOM MAKES A DIFFERENCE.
A. Lois loved Jesus.
B. Lois had Eunice, a daughter that loved Jesus.
C. Eunice’s husband was not a believer, often times the THIRD GENERATION HAS A TENDANCY TO WALK IN LAZINESS.
2 Tim. 1:5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.
D. Timothy was a good son and a good grandson --- BUT MORE THAN THAT THESE CHRISTIAN WOMEN LEAD HIM --- TIMOTHY FOUND A GREAT FATHER FIGURE --- PAUL!
E. SARAH THE MOTHER OF THE PROMISE...
F. HANNAH THE MOTHER FROM A DYSFUNTIONAL HOME, HAD A PRAYER LIFE AND SON SAMUEL ANOINTED THE FIRST TWO KINGS --- SAUL AND DAVID!
G. ELIZABETH MOTHER OF JOHN THE BAPTIST!
H. MARY THE MOTHER OF JESUS!
VII. HAVE YOU EVER LOOKED AT THINGS IN A CATALOG?
EVER WENT WINDOW SHOPPING? THINGS LOOK DIFFERENT FACE TO FACE.
WE SEE THROUGH A GLASS DARKLY...
A. I go shopping with my wife. We will stand and look through the window and see something. It is nice to go window shopping, but things can look much different close up and face to face.
1 Cor. 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
B. OFTEN WHAT I SEE THROUGH A WINDOW IS MUCH DIFFERENT IN MY HAND. TODAY I SEE GOD AND MOM’S THROUGH THE WINDOW.
Maybe tomorrow I shall SEE HIM FACE TO FACE.
C. JESUS ASKED JOHN TO LOVE AND CARE FOR HIS MOTHER.
John 19:26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.
D. I SHALL SEE MOM AGAIN!
MAYBE I WILL HAVE SOME OF HER MEATLOAF AND BANANNA PUDDING?
JESUS SHALL BE THERE.
