WE’RE Waiting for God Luke 12:35- 40
There have always been people who don’t believe the bible, or any thing to do with God, there’s always been scoffers and people who belittle and make light of believers in Jesus Christ, and there will be people like that when we the believers are raptured away to meet our Lord in the air, so lets just keep the faith and continue to trust God because the scoffers are a sure sign of His coming.
Listen as I read today’s text found in LK.12: 35-40 Jesus said
35Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; 36And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.
37Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.
38And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.
39And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through. 40Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.
Jesus will come for His church at the time that has been appointed by the Father,
Heb.10:37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.
But the unbelieving and scoffers are nothing new.
The apostle Peter said this in 2 Peter 3: 3Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
There will always be those who believe it is futile to wait for THE LORD. But they deliberately forget that he has already come to this earth and made His presents known to many different people, and in several different manifestations.
He came to Adam in the Garden of Eden. He came to Noah and told him to build the Ark He came to Moses and gave him the 10 commandments on Mount Sinai. He came in the person of Jesus, 1st tim. 3: 16And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. And he will come again.
There are many who give in to doubt and despair. They grow weary of waiting for the Lord.
All of us know that for the most part, believers and unbelievers alike enjoy the charm of the Christmas holidays, but to the skeptics believing in a real Savior coming into the world is like a child looking for Santa Clause.
And let me say here that Christmas has gone so far away from what the true meaning really is, its mostly commercialism now days, and not taking time to remember the birth of our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ.
Some people go through the Christmas season without every realizing what the occasion is all about. I’ll be talking about Christmas soon Lord willing.
Well let’s get back to our thought, “waiting on the Lord” What should our attitude be as believers, in this time of waiting for the 2nd advent of Christ?
· The first way that we wait for Christ is: to wait patiently.
The hardest part of waiting is waiting. Waiting involves time, and we don’t know when our waiting will be over. If we could wait a minute or two it would be one thing, but it often involves a great deal of time.
It seems that now in our day and time we want every thing right now, we don’t like to have to wait.
People in places like Russia may wait in line for hours for a loaf of bread, but we are irritated if the line at McDonald’s is not moving fast enough.
Patience produces hope. Rom. 8:25But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
Gal.5: 5For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
God wants us to have patience. But often we become irritated if we have to wait any length of time at all.
Yet, hope is essential to life. -------------
We read in Romans 8:22-25 22For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. 23And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. 24For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? 25But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
Waiting is a period of learning. The longer we wait, the more we hear about him for whom we are waiting.”
Waiting is a time when God is working behind the scenes, and the primary focus of his work is on us.
Some times it seems we try to get ahead of GOD. While we’re waiting nothing seems to be happening.
Even in the days when the people were waiting for Messiah to come, folks decided to take matters into their own hands.
This was the group known as the Zealots. They had heard the promise that God was coming to deliver Israel from the grip of her enemies, but they grew impatient. Occasionally, a leader would arise, and everyone would pin his or her hopes on him.
He would gain a small following and they would form a terrorist group until the Roman army crushed them.
·
The second way in which we are to wait is:
We wait expectantly. God is busy bringing about his full plan for the world and for us. And In his perfect timing he will reveal that plan.
I suppose that even an expectant mother sometimes might think, “Is this baby ever going to come?” especially if she is past her due date.
But all any one else has to do is look at her and you know that it is impossible for the baby not to come.
We as believers need to always keep in mind that, God is in no hurry to do any thing, because every thing that happens in the world He already knew it would happen & it all has its place in the Master Plan of God.
God, dear heart is never taken by surprise in the happenings of the time.
He is not pacing out and back in the throne room of God wondering what’s next.
Let us as believers never for one minute say, “well I don’t see how God can put up with much more of this.”
His Word says in 2nd Tim. 3: 1This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come so its going to continue to become worse & worse right up until the rapture takes place, if you think it’s bad now, wait till tomorrow, and so on & so on.
Brother Brown, you are a preacher of doom and gloom, no, I am a bible believer.
It’s sorter like the image in Nebukednezzers dream, which started at the head & went to the feet revealing the degenerate gentile rule.
Dan.2: 32This image’s head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, 33His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay.
it detereated as it went along from gold, silver, brass, iron and then clay.
So as time pass’s perilous times will surely come.
God does every thing at the precise time . Gal. 4: 4But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
Before it was time, the birth of Christ would have been premature, but when the time came, nothing could hold him back. When it is time for Christ to return, nothing will be able to hold him back.
We are all sitting in the waiting room. But it is how we wait, and what we do with the waiting, that is important. Waiting does not mean just sitting down and doing nothing. We need to be watching and looking for God to fulfill his promise. And let believe He is going to do it.
It is possible to get ahead of God when we try to work things out ourselves, but it is also possible that we could miss what He is doing because we are just waiting without expecting God to really come through.
· The final way in, which we are to wait for God is: We wait faithfully.
To be faithful means to be full of faith — faith full — faith that completely trusts and depends on God.
It is active faith; It is a faith that delights in doing the Master’s will. It is love that results in action.
It is a faith that keeps doing the right thing even when the waiting becomes long.
In our text verses we read in Lk. 12: 35-40 to do with servants waiting on the lord, I want to read to you the next verses to do with impatient servants.
Luke 12: 40Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.
41Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us, or even to all? 42And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?
43Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. 44Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath. 45But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken; 46The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers s
So lets keep looking up, as He could come today
