PRINCIPLES FOR CHRISTIAN CONDUCT

1 CORINTHIANS 6:12-20

(1 Cor 6:12 NIV) "Everything is permissible for me"??but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"??but I will not be mastered by anything.

(1 Cor 6:13 NIV) "Food for the stomach and the stomach for food"??but God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

(1 Cor 6:14 NIV) By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also.

(1 Cor 6:15 NIV) Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never!

(1 Cor 6:16 NIV) Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh."

(1 Cor 6:17 NIV) But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit.

(1 Cor 6:18 NIV) Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.

(1 Cor 6:19 NIV) Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;

(1 Cor 6:20 NIV) you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

There are six questions which one should ask himself when he considers an action which in itself is not sinful.

1. Is it expedient? Is it the right thing to do at this particular time.

(1 Cor 6:12 NIV) "Everything is permissible for me"??but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"??but I will not be mastered by anything.

2. Is it edifying?

(1 Cor 10:23 NIV) "Everything is permissible"??but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible"??but not everything is constructive.

3. Will this action lead to an enslaving habit?

(1 Cor 6:12 NIV) "Everything is permissible for me"??but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"??but I will not be mastered by anything.

4. Is this action doubtful?

(Rom 14:23 NIV) But the man who has doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin.

5. Will this action cause a weaker brother to stumble?

(1 Cor 8:13 NIV) Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause him to fall.

(Rom 14:21 NIV) It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother to fall.

6. Will this action bring honor and glory to Jesus Christ?

(1 Cor 10:31 NIV) So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
