Preaching Lessons From A Crowing Rooster
Contributed by Rodney Johnson Sr., on Feb 21, 2016 (message contributor)
Summary: God will use any means He chose to reach mankind; even a crowing rooster.
Introduction: God has been using animals since creation. He used a dove to conduct a flood check. He used a raven to feed the prophet. He used clean and unclean animals to teach about election. They came to Noah instinctively as chosen by God. He used a donkey to give a word of warning. He used a great fish to swallow a Jonah. He turned a fish into a submarine. God gave the hyena his laugh. He gave the elephant his memory. He gave the Kangaroo his hops. He gave the light bug his light. He gave the butterfly his beauty. It was God that gave the duck his quack. He gave the dog his bark. It was God who put a back-pack on a turtle. He used a donkey to carry the Word. He is an awesome God. It was God that gave the worm his wiggle. It was God that gave the Lion his roar. Yes, it was God that put a necklace on a rooster and gave him his crow.
Let us consider the rooster that crowed the preacher to consciousness of his sin:
I. The Rooster crows to wake us out of our slumber. (When we become sleepy in the things of God.....the rooster crows)
II. The Rooster crows to fulfill God's purpose. He doesn't bark...he crows) He does what God designed him to do.
III. The Rooster crows to remind us that God is still sovereign. (He did what Jesus said he would do and when he said he would do it.)
IV. The Rooster crows to keep us humble. (Peter was humbled by the rooster crow and wept bitterly as he failed Jesus)
V. The Rooster crows to remind us of our sin. (He crowed when Peter lied)
VI. The Rooster crows to kindle the word of God within us. (He crowing reminded him of what Jesus had declared.
VII. The Rooster crows to make the disobedient restless. (Peter could not wait to live up to the promises that he made to Jesus.)
VIII. The Rooster crows to tell us that light or mourning has come. (He let's us know that darkness has ended and a new day has dawned. A new opportunity to become better when God's Son shines in our lives.)
Conclusion: A man that does not hear his rooster is in dangerous state. I believe the Rooster is crowing now to tell us that Jesus' coming is drawing nigh.
