Summary: Praying for healing - different levels and kinds of healing
Nov. 2 Pray for Healing
Video Clip Matt. 9:18-10:1
Prayer at close but don’t be shocked if God heals you prior to the end.
MT 4:23-24 Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. 24 News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed, and he healed them.
LK 6:17-19 He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coast of Tyre and Sidon, 18 who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by evil spirits were cured, 19 and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all.
Paralytic - your sins are forgiven Leper – touch
Blind man - spit in the dirt make mud and wipe on eyes
Why tell no one - because people focus on the miracle rather than on God
Is God still into healing? Why or why not? Ever experienced healing – ever been denied?
Mark expands on this story of a woman healed - Mark 5:21-34 story of healing
1. SOME CROWDED HIM
Large crowd of people packed into a narrow street. Bedlam
Rubbing shoulders with the Master
Yet no one received a miracle, though they touched Him and crowded Him.
No really expected a miracle or asked for one.
Is that like me at times? I walk into church, sing a few songs, raise our hands and our hearts toward heaven, pray and worship in His presence.
We can be in His awesome Presence and be so unaware of His mighty power!
2. SOME PUSHED HIM
"Come on Jesus! Got to get to Jairus’ house, fast!" urgent
Why did Jesus drag His feet?
You can’t push God around, give Him directions or a time limit. There is a great temptation to Prayer isn’t the art of bossing God around.
3. One Really Touched Him.
Can I be the one to touch Jesus today?
God tells us to ask for healing - Christ is our healer By His stripes - healing in his wings
JAS 5:13-16 is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. 14 Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 and the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
Why are we told to ask God for something He already wants to do?
Before we pray for healing – let’s consider something
What hinders healing?
Is it primarily about my faith or God’s faithfulness?
Are you willing to take no for an answer? Thy will be done?
Gods’ bigger purpose – all bodily healing is temporary.
Won’t be able to inherit - fit into the resurrection body without first laying down the loaner
Bible indicates that our infirmities cause us to look towards our real home
Deliverance also - this kind requires fasting and prayer
1. God wants us to pray so our understanding perfects our obedience
2. W/O overly spiritualizing things - Different layers and levels of healing
Body Physical relief – Mind – mental anguish – relationships
Spirit – destiny is presence of God
Is there unforgiveness - remove it
Breakthrough - God wants to heal the wound in your soul
Prepare for communion
Next week praying for the Holy Spirit
