Summary: As children of Abraham, we are blessed and are a blessing to others.

PRAISE GOD AND PASS THE BLESSINGS

Psalm 67

INTRODUCTION

A. When God called Abram to leave his country and kinfolks, He promised to bless him, and he would be a blessing (Gen 12:1-3).

B. Paul tells us that believers are blessed with Abraham (Gal 3:9).

C. It logically follows that we who are blessed should also be a blessing to believers and unbelievers alike.

I. TRACING GOD’S BLESSINGS

A. “God be gracious to us and bless us, And cause His face to shine upon us— That Your way may be known on the earth,

Your salvation among all nations” (vv.1-2).

1. God’s covenant and promise to Israel after the flesh (Ex 19:5-6; Num 6:22-27).

2. God’s promise to Abraham’s spiritual children (Gal 3:6-9, 23-29).

B. Jesus declared believers to be the light of the world and the salt of the earth (Matt 5:13-16).

1. Light under a bushel and salt in the shaker are a blessing to no one, including themselves:

2. When we are not a blessing, we are good for nothing and will be walked on by the world.

II. WE ARE CALLED TO PRAISE HIM FROM WHOM ALL BLESSINGS FLOW

A. “May the peoples praise You, God; May all the peoples praise You. May the nations be glad and sing for joy; For You will judge the peoples with fairness And guide the nations on the earth” (vv.3-4).

B. There is an inherent danger in being blessed (Rom 2:17-24).

C. When we focus on what Christ has done for us instead of what we have done for Christ, we move men to glorify God (Rom 15:7-13).

III. THE BLESSING CYCLE

A. “May the peoples praise You, God; May all the peoples praise You. The earth has yielded its produce; God, our God, blesses us. 7 God blesses us, So that all the ends of the earth may fear Him” (vv.5-7).

B. God blesses, the blessed praise God, the needy are drawn to God, God blesses, the cycle continues.
