Pots of meat!

Exodus 16:3’And the children of Israel said to them, "Oh, that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and when we ate bread to the full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger."

Imagine walking in the midst of the Red Sea on dry ground! Boy, it’s groovy! Even after being first-hand witnesses of such mind-blowing God’s miracle working power, their hearts turned back to the pots of meat and the bread that they ate in Egypt! How ungrateful could we get! After they walked out of Egypt, they wanted no more problems, but to be air-lifted to the promised land. Aren’t we the same? We want to hang-on to the old sinful life style for fear of change!

Why do people refuse to come to light? They are afraid if they would miss the pots of meat! A woman living with a married man hesitates to come out of the relationship, fearing she may have to forfeit the material/monetary benefits that she gains out of the stinking relationship. Pots of meat! Corporate executives, do not want to mend their ways or even read my devotions, because they are afraid of losing out on the pots of meat. Fake vouchers are submitted for medical/LTA/local travel, fox-like-cunning manipulations are done to avoid payment of tax, bribe, cheating, lying and various other corruption practices that they would never want to part with. In our criminal justice system, there is rigorous imprisonment for a pick-pocketer stealing Rs.10/- even the authorities spend thousands of rupees in legally prosecuting him and the thief spends a year or more as punishment behind bars; whereas there is no punishment for corporate thieves, evading tax to the tune of crores of rupees. Prosperity should be handled with integrity! Various ways are connived to pocket as much money as possible! Greedy generation! Friend, you may not be a bank thief with face mask, but when you buy electronic gadgets, through the local black market and avoid payment of tax, you sure are a thief!!!

When we purchased our keyboard from a Christian music shop, we insisted for the bill, the shop owner suggested us some fraudulent ways – to benefit both the parties- so that we could pocket some money, but we refused. However, we were shocked to hear him say, “many Christians have purchased music instruments from me and we have prepared such bills for them”. Some people consider me to be too sensitive or a nag, when I pinpoint such matters to them, however, I want to quote the words of our Master Jesus here: Luke 16:10 ‘He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.’ My Savior expects faithfulness even in small matters!

The hearts of the Israelites were not on the promised land but on the pots of meat! Likewise, we fail to focus on heaven which is reserved for us, but our hearts hang on to the pots of meat. One psyches oneself into believing that Vacuum cleaners, dish washers, microwave, Innova, Ferrari cars and Blackberries can give us bliss. How misleading! They are all pots of meat! Jesus alone is “THE BREAD OF LIFE!”
