Summary: Sin is more than an outward act, sin is a STATE OF MIND. Sin is much like a dandelion you can fight it your whole life and it tends to spring up again and again. Sin starts as a seed of thought and roots from there.

PLAYING GAMES WITH SIN...

Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com

TEXT:

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus

Christ our Lord.

Numbers 32:23 But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the Lord: and be sure

your sin will find you out.

GOD HATES SIN, BUT HE LOVES SINNERS...

I. LET US LOOK AT TWO DIFFERENT STRADEGIES FOR TWO THINGS... WORK VS PLAY

A. WHERE IS GOD'S PURPOSE FOR ME?

1. WORK: APPLICATION OF MENTAL OR PHYSICAL EFFORT FOR A PURPOSE,

not idle, to be employed or engaged, gradually or with difficulty, to solve; to advance...

labor, toil

2. PLAY: recreation; occupy or amuse self pleasantly or idly; light hearted, a performance,

to compete, take a role or position; amusement, behave irresponsibly; sport

B. ARE WE SEARCHING FOR:

1. TOYS: play thing, something for amusement; FLIRT...

2. TOOLS: thing used to accomplish a goal,

WHY COULD PLAYING WITH SIN BE DANGEROUS?

II. IS THE SPIRIT MAN DEALING WITH WORK OR PLAY?

WILL THE SPIRIT MAN SEEK TOYS OR TOOLS?

A. Sin is man slapping God in the face--- saying I AM INDEPENDENT OF GOD.

I can do life MY OWN WAY...

B. LOOK AT WHAT IS IN THE CENTER:

1. pr-I-de

2. Luc-I-fer

3. S-I-n

C. You can not find LITTLE SIN in the Bible, all sin will destroy the individual and the society.

D. One little leak can sink a boat, sin will eventually destroy the person.

E. There are TWO TYPES OF SIN:

1. OMMISSION

2. COMMISSION

As a believe mature his type of sin should avoid commission.

F. SIN is often PROPORTIONAL to how CLOSE you are to God.

Weak Christians are tempted...

Stronger Christians are PERSECUTED...

Which are you?

G. Sin is energy and focus in the WRONG CHANNEL.

H. Man has the tendency to EXCUSE or PALLIATE sin.

I. Sin has WAGES...

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus

Christ our Lord.

III. SIN HAS AT LEAST 5 CHARARACTERISTICS:

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and

the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world

1. Sin is always rebellion and declaring INDEPENDENDANCE from God and His word.

2. SIN IS NOT OF FAITH --- SIN IS ALWAYS SELFISH, SELF-WILLED,

DEMANDS: WHAT IS IN THIS FOR ME...

3. Sin is never submissive and concerned with the LORDSHIP OF JESUS CHRIST.

4. Sin is never giving, sin is always TAKING, give me more.

God adds and multiplies; Satan subtracts and divides.

5. Sin always becomes an issue of PRIDE, braggart, it's all about me...

Never being humble

IV. SIN IS ALWAYS LONELY AND SEEKS FOR MORE AND MORE.

SIN WANTS A SAFE PLACE... THERE ARE NO SAFE PLACES IN GOD...

SIN SAYS: I CAN QUIT AND WALK AWAY ANY TIME I WANT TO...

SIN BECOMES A HOOK IN THE NOSE... SIN BLINDS...

A. Samson was searching for more. Samson was searching for love...

But Samson was searching in all the wrong places...

B. Look where Samson searched: IN THE SPIIRIT? IN THE FLESH...

C. SAMSON, STRONG BOY THOUGHT LIFE WAS A GAME, ALL ABOUT HIM, LET'S PLAY

A FEW MORE NIGHTS...

Judges 16:3 And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight,...

V. SIN IS A LYE, YOU WILL BELIEVE YOUR OWN LYING? SIN IS ALWAYS SELF- DECEPTIVE...

HEY, I AM STILL STRONG...

Judges 16:3 And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the

city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders,

and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron.

2 Thes. 2:11-12 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

[12] That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

VI. SIN IS LIKE LAY'S POTATOES: YOU CAN NOT EAT JUST ONE...

ONE SIN LEADS TO ANOTHER SIN! SIN IS ADDICTIVE...

A. Samson went down...

B. SAMSON WAS IN THE WRONG PLACE...

Judges 14: 1 And Samson went down to Timnath, and saw a woman in Timnath of the daughters

of the Philistines.

2. And he came up, and told his father and mother, and said I have seen a woman in Timnath of the

daughters of the Philistines, NOW THEREFORE GET HER FOR ME!

C. THE SIN ATTITUDE LOCKS IN AND WILL NOT LISTEN...

Judges 16:4 And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose

name was Delilah.
