Summary: Philippians 3:15-21
Philippians 3:15 - 21
Point | Your focus determines your worship
Paul, writing from jail, has been encouraging the church in Philippi to pursue and know Jesus.
Now, Paul is pleading with them (crying) concerning their growth, maturity and behavior.
Paul shares some of the warning signs and notes those heading for destruction are focused on themselves.
You can either live your agenda or deny yourself and take up Jesus’ agenda.
Reaching maturity isn’t about arriving or not sinning but living out the calling God has placed upon your life.
The essence of the Christian faith is the Gospel (Creation + Fall + Redemption + Restoration).
Jesus is the one who should captivate our hearts and get our attention. He should be the one we are imitating.
Who do you spend your time with? What do you spend your time on? Do those people and those things encourage you to be closer to Jesus or pull you further away from him?
It's important to actively monitor the influences in our lives and keep track of who we’re imitating and what we are becoming.
Paul uses the reference to citizenship here because to the people of Philippi, citizenship holds a high value with being Roman.
Citizenship reveals different aspects of who you are, from your identity, your core values, how you speak and how you act, and your idea of what your home is.
