Persistence of Prayer
Lu. 18:1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray and not to faint
2 Saying There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
3 And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying Avenge me of mine adversary.
4 And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
5 Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
6 And the Lord said Hear what the unjust judge saith
7 And shall not God avenge his own elect which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh shall he find faith on the earth?
Many have used this scripture to teach if we pester God we will get it.
The point of this Parable is that WE OUGHT TO PRAY AND NOT FAINT.
The UNRIGHTEOUS JUDGE IS NOT GOD.
You cannot weary or wear out God. This judge did not regard God or man.
Here is what Jesus said:
7 And shall not God avenge his own elect which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily.
God wants to answer your prayers.
Say that GOD WANTS TO ANSWER MY PRAYERS.
Last week we saw there were ways to pray and not be heard, we saw that God knows what our needs are.
We saw there were things that we can do to cut down on our prayer time.
Let’s look at some of the things that we can do to free up our prayer time for the things that we need to pray about.
Matt. 6:25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow they toil not, neither do they spin
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought saying What shall we eat or, What shall we drink or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
I want to address these things.
I want my prayer time to be spent on the things that are important and am told to pray about.
9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
We are told to pray that God’s Kingdom and God’s Will be the thing that we are to pray about.
We get so caught up on OUR WILL ABOUT THINGS and forget God’s Kingdom, His Rule , His Will is the thing that we are to pray about.
We have our agenda and we get concerned if we don’t get our way, What about God’s WAY.
The ACLU, COURTS, GOVERNMENTS are ruling the Earth to day and we are told to pray about these things.
THINGS WE DO NOT HAVE TO PRAY ABOUT:
31 Therefore take no thought saying What shall we eat or, What shall we drink or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed
This says DON’T WORRY about the food and drink.
We spend more time worrying about the Food and Drink than we do about life.
We get up in the morning and start planning where and what we can fill our bellies with.
