INTRODUCTION:
In the previous sermons, we examined the causes and signs of spiritual dryness and the steps to overcoming it. In this third part, we will explore how to sustain spiritual revival and ensure that dryness does not return. Many believers experience revival temporarily, but maintaining spiritual fire requires continuous effort.
1. LIVING A LIFE OF CONTINUAL FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD
To sustain spiritual freshness, we must maintain a deep and consistent relationship with God.
a) Walking with God daily (Genesis 5:24)
Enoch’s walk with God kept him in continuous fellowship.
b) Developing intimacy through worship (John 4:23-24)
True worship connects us deeply with God and refreshes our spirit.
c) Practising constant communion with the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 13:14)
The Holy Spirit is the fountain of living waters that keeps us fresh.
d) Avoiding spiritual distractions (Luke 10:41-42)
Like Mary, we must choose what draws us closer to Jesus.
e) Biblical Example: Moses’ face shining after encountering God (Exodus 34:29-30)
A deep relationship with God leads to lasting spiritual transformation.
2. DEVELOPING A STRONG WORD LIFE
The Word of God is a vital tool for sustaining spiritual freshness.
a) Meditating on the Word daily (Joshua 1:8)
Regular meditation ensures spiritual growth and prosperity.
b) Applying the Word in daily life (James 1:22)
Obedience to God’s Word strengthens our spiritual foundation.
c) Declaring God’s Word over your life (Job 22:28)
Speaking the Word activates spiritual power and renewal.
d) Feeding on spiritually rich teachings (Acts 2:42)
Being devoted to sound doctrine keeps us rooted in faith.
e) Biblical Example: Jesus’ use of Scripture against Satan (Matthew 4:4-10)
Jesus overcame spiritual attacks by standing on the Word of God.
3. MAINTAINING A CONSISTENT PRAYER LIFE
Prayer is the key to sustaining spiritual fire and preventing dryness.
a) Praying without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
Persistent prayer keeps us spiritually alive.
b) Having a disciplined prayer schedule (Daniel 6:10)
Daniel’s daily prayers sustained his spiritual strength.
c) Engaging in deep intercessory prayer (Ezekiel 22:30)
Standing in the gap for others builds spiritual stamina.
d) Praying in the Holy Spirit (Jude 1:20)
Praying in tongues edifies and strengthens our spirit.
e) Biblical Example: Jesus’ consistent prayer life (Mark 1:35)
Jesus sustained His spiritual fire through daily early morning prayers.
4. STAYING ACTIVE IN KINGDOM SERVICE
Serving God in different capacities keeps our spiritual life burning.
a) Being passionate about God’s work (Romans 12:11)
Zeal for God’s kingdom sustains our spiritual freshness.
b) Using your gifts for the glory of God (1 Peter 4:10)
Spiritual gifts should be exercised to prevent stagnation.
c) Engaging in soul-winning and evangelism (Proverbs 11:30)
Winning souls fuels spiritual passion and joy.
d) Avoiding idleness in the things of God (Matthew 20:6-7)
Being idle in the kingdom weakens spiritual strength.
e) Biblical Example: Paul’s dedication to kingdom service (1 Corinthians 9:16-17)
Paul’s unwavering service kept him spiritually fresh and focused.
5. GUARDING AGAINST SPIRITUAL ATTACKS AND COMPROMISE
Sustaining revival requires spiritual vigilance and resistance against sin.
a) Guarding your heart diligently (Proverbs 4:23)
What we allow into our hearts affects our spiritual condition.
b) Avoiding worldly distractions (1 John 2:15-17)
Love for the world leads to spiritual dryness.
c) Fleeing from sin and compromise (2 Timothy 2:22)
Sin quenches the Holy Spirit’s fire in us.
d) Putting on the full armour of God (Ephesians 6:10-18)
Spiritual warfare is necessary to maintain victory.
e) Biblical Example: Joseph’s resistance to temptation (Genesis 39:7-10)
Joseph remained spiritually strong because he refused to compromise.
CONCLUSION:
Spiritual dryness can be prevented by staying close to God, immersing in the Word, maintaining a strong prayer life, serving in the Kingdom, and resisting spiritual attacks. Revival is not a one-time experience but a continuous journey of growing in God’s presence.
