Summary: God has commanded his leaders and all people to be "Strong and courageous!" But He is the One who gives strength in areas of our lives.

There are over 20 different definitions of "strong", but the one we identify with most is fourfold. Physically, Mentally, Socially, and Spiritually. We use it by saying strong muscles, strong strong mind (courageous), strong winds, strong drink, strong odors, strong love and strong faith and trust. Taking a strong stand for something. In other words, it could mean that, "strong is better."

God told Moses "Be strong and courageous and I will be with you." (Deut. 31) He told his predessor Joshua, the same as he began to lead the people. Moses knew what those words meant to him, as those words were given to him directly by the Lord. Now Joshua will preach to his people and tells them to be strong and courageous.

He spoke the words to Solomon and then later he told Daniel to be strong, but it was not about physical strength, but strong in their character and they were. Solomon gave us these words in Proverbs 18:10, "The name of the Lord is strong tower, and the righteous run to it and are safe. (vs. 11) "the wealth of the rich is their fortified city, they imagine it to be unscable." The rich felt that nothing was going to stop them because of their wealth, but Solomon says SOOO WRONG! God's Tower of Strength will stop them!

How many times have we felt "UNSAFE"? Unsafe in the darkness, unsafe in driving our car, unsafe in our sicknesses, unsafe in wanting to move in our lives? Solomon is telling us RUN TO GOD! Who is our STRONG TOWER and be safe! The Bee Gees have a song about a sad lonely love relationship and they sing "Run to me!"

God wants us to "Run to HIM! because He is our strong tower!

Strong towers were built by the military for protection. They were thick walls, in high territories, and they could live in them feeling a sense strong safety. Spiritually, GOD was their strong tower. We are accept the fact that ALL strength comes from God and we are to trust Him for it.

The Newsboys has a video song that says "Our Lord God is our Strong Tower, (Showing pictures of huge and high towers. singing, "Strong and mighty --- Strong to save us, --- Like a fortress never failing -- strong in battles -- strong in kindness, -- when we are strong, Lord, --- You're strong to find us. --- Strong tower, high and glorious,

strong tower, mighty in love, Our Refuge, Our Defender, Strong Tower, Lord Above.

CONCLUSION ---- Luke 2:40, says "Jesus grew and became strong, (vs 52) he grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man." Who gave him his strength, his parents? No! His schooling? No! His Community? No! Only one, His Father in Heaven! Paul said, "The Lord stood by him and strengthened him." (Ephesians 6:10) He ran to his Strong Tower. Amen.
