OPENING UP THE ANCIENT GATES

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Psalm 24:7–10

"Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. INTRODUCTION:

There are spiritual gates and doors that control access to destinies, blessings, and divine encounters. These gates can either open to allow divine intervention or remain shut, causing stagnation and delay. Psalm 24 presents a prophetic call for the ancient gates to be lifted so that the King of glory may enter.

Ancient gates refer to long-standing obstacles, ancestral limitations, foundational strongholds, or spiritual barriers that have resisted the move of God in one's life or family for generations. These gates are not physical, but spiritual systems that govern access to territories, opportunities, breakthroughs, and divine purposes.

The good news is that Jesus, the King of Glory, has power over every gate. When He approaches, gates must lift, doors must open, and barriers must be broken. This study will equip us to identify, confront, and open every ancient gate standing between us and God’s best for our lives.

1. IDENTIFYING THE ANCIENT GATES

You cannot confront what you have not recognised.

a) Ancestral limitations.

These are negative patterns inherited from family lines (Exodus 20:5).

b) Foundational errors.

Mistakes or covenants from the past can erect spiritual barriers (Lamentations 5:7).

c) Long-standing battles.

Battles that persist across generations are often tied to ancient gates (Judges 6:25–30).

d) Geographical or territorial strongholds.

Some regions are spiritually fortified against the move of God (Daniel 10:13).

Biblical Example: Jericho’s gate was securely shut until God brought it down for Joshua (Joshua 6:1–20).

2. UNDERSTANDING THE AUTHORITY OF THE KING OF GLORY

Only Jesus can command ancient gates to open.

a) He holds the keys of David.

What He opens, no man can shut (Revelation 3:7).

b) He is the mighty man in battle.

He defeats unseen forces and clears spiritual blockages (Psalm 24:8).

c) His presence demands access.

When the King comes in, resistance ends (Psalm 114:7).

d) His name breaks every barrier.

At His name, every gate must respond (Philippians 2:9–10).

Biblical Example: Jesus cast out the legion of demons and set the man free from long-standing bondage (Mark 5:1–15).

3. SPEAKING TO THE GATES IN PRAYER

Gates must be addressed with bold prophetic declarations.

a) Your mouth is a weapon.

You can command gates to open through faith-filled words (Mark 11:23).

b) Spiritual authority must be exercised.

Believers have power to bind and loose (Matthew 16:19).

c) Consistent declarations weaken resistance.

Speaking the Word repeatedly breaks stubborn gates (Jeremiah 23:29).

d) Prayer and fasting add force to your declarations.

Some gates require deeper spiritual engagement (Matthew 17:21).

Biblical Example: Ezekiel prophesied to the dry bones and saw restoration (Ezekiel 37:1–10).

4. INVITING THE PRESENCE OF GOD

The King of Glory enters wherever He is welcomed.

a) Praise opens gates.

God inhabits the praises of His people (Psalm 100:4; Psalm 22:3).

b) Holiness creates an atmosphere for His presence.

The pure in heart shall see God (Matthew 5:8).

c) The Word of God ushers Him in.

Scripture carries divine presence and authority (John 1:1).

d) Worship brings divine encounter.

When God’s presence comes, ancient gates flee (2 Chronicles 5:13–14).

Biblical Example: Paul and Silas worshipped in prison, and the gates broke open (Acts 16:25–26).

5. WALKING IN CONTINUOUS VICTORY

Once the gates are open, stay aligned with God’s will.

a) Maintain your spiritual life.

Stay connected through prayer and the Word (John 15:5).

b) Avoid old patterns.

Do not return to what kept you bound (Galatians 5:1).

c) Keep your gates guarded.

Protect your heart and mind from infiltration (Proverbs 4:23).

d) Help others open their gates.

Become a gate-opener for your family and community (Isaiah 60:11).

Biblical Example: Peter was freed from prison, and he continued preaching with boldness (Acts 12:6–17).

CONCLUSION:

Ancient gates are real, but they are no match for the King of Glory. When Jesus arises, nothing can resist His entrance. You were not created to remain locked out of your destiny. Every gate standing in the way of your progress must lift in Jesus’ name.

The call today is to rise in faith, address every gate by name, and welcome the presence of the King into every area of your life. As you do, divine access, supernatural breakthroughs, and generational liberty will become your portion.
