One Nation Under God?
“I Pledge Allegiance to the flag of The United States Of America and to the republic for which it stands One Nation Under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.”
“America, America, God Shed his grace on thee, and crown thy good, with brotherhood from sea to shining sea.”
This nation was founded so that it would be one nation under God. This nation, like Isaiah’s has strayed from the promises of God and no longer look to him as the central figure of our nation. Just as the pledge of allegiance states, we are to be one nation under God, not above him, beside him, or anywhere other than under him and his commandments.
I was challenged recently when I heard a story of a Father whose child had died in the Columbine High School Massacre. He was asked to address Congress and one of the most shocking things he said to the people there was:
“This Country was meant to be one nation under God, but where is he? He is the founder of this world and of this country, but you have pushed him out. You have placed yourselves higher than God and his standards. You think that without God you can make it, no, you would be just like my child, dead and without breath. If it had not been for all of you pushing God away, my child would be alive. If Dylan and Eric had been able to have a close personal relationship with God and Jesus Christ, then that massacre never would have happened.”
This father much like myself believed that God should be the center of all things. However, as laws continue to outlaw prayer in schools and public places, and banishing any kind of worship in a school, God continues to be put in second place in this world.
Just as Isaiah said, we now longer know whom our true master is (God), we are filled with corruption, and many have forsaken God and turned their backs to him. Verse 23 of Chapter 1 says:
“Your rulers have are rebels, companions of thieves; they all love bribes and chase after gifts. They do not defend the cause of the fatherless; the widow’s case does not come before them.”
Look at our nation, how many of you can honestly say that our nation is not like that nation that Isaiah is describing. I believe that we are in need of a drastic revival of the Lord Jesus Christ, just like the days of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit came and inhabited the people of Israel that were praising God.
As more and more people grow further from God to atheism or Buddhism, or any other form of religion, where our loving creator is the center, how can we expect to change anything sitting on our hind ends. I am a firm believer that prayer will change anything. I went to a revival in Muncie last month with a friend and their family. At this revival, I was skeptical as I saw what you see on those so-called healing shows. I saw a man laying his hands on people and they would fall back to the floor, apparently because the Holy Spirit had entered them to heal and save them. Towards the end of the evening, I found myself convicted by the Holy Spirit to go forward, so I did. As I got to the front, I was asked what I needed help with, and so I said that I needed help with my future. As the healer laid his hands on me, I fell back in awe of the power of the spirit and felt a fire burning in me, healing me in whatever ways I needed, and also a voice reassuring me that the future would be fine, and I was to be destined for great things. I can honestly say that no longer am I skeptical of these healings that you see on TV.
God, through his spirit had told me things and I am to be a great leader. God is still in control despite the illusion that the media and the government are setting for themselves and those around. This nation will be a proud nation again, but it will take all of us to do it. If we all unite in prayer for this nation and pray like we mean it, then God will heal this land and forgive us of sins of leaving and forgetting him. God said in 2 Chronicles 7:14-15 that:
“ 14if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn away from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 15Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.”
