One Nation Under God?
“I Pledge Allegiance to the flag of The United States Of America and to the republic for which it stands One Nation Under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.”
“America, America, God Shed his grace on thee, and crown thy good, with brotherhood from sea to shining sea.”
This nation was founded so that it would be one nation under God. This nation, like Isaiah’s has strayed from the promises of God and no longer look to him as the central figure of our nation. Just as the pledge of allegiance states, we are to be one nation under God, not above him, beside him, or anywhere other than under him and his commandments.
I was challenged recently when I heard a story of a Father whose child had died in the Columbine High School Massacre. He was asked to address Congress and one of the most shocking things he said to the people there was:
“This Country was meant to be one nation under God, but where is he? He is the founder of this world and of this country, but you have pushed him out. You have placed yourselves higher than God and his standards. You think that without God you can make it, no, you would be just like my child, dead and without breath. If it had not been for all of you pushing God away, my child would be alive. If Dylan and Eric had been able to have a close personal relationship with God and Jesus Christ, then that massacre never would have happened.”
This father much like myself believed that God should be the center of all things. However, as laws continue to outlaw prayer in schools and public places, and banishing any kind of worship in a school, God continues to be put in second place in this world.
Just as Isaiah said, we now longer know whom our true master is (God), we are filled with corruption, and many have forsaken God and turned their backs to him. Verse 23 of Chapter 1 says:
“Your rulers have are rebels, companions of thieves; they all love bribes and chase after gifts. They do not defend the cause of the fatherless; the widow’s case does not come before them.”
Look at our nation, how many of you can honestly say that our nation is not like that nation that Isaiah is describing. I believe that we are in need of a drastic revival of the Lord Jesus Christ, just like the days of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit came and inhabited the people of Israel that were praising God.
As more and more people grow further from God to atheism or Buddhism, or any other form of religion, where our loving creator is the center, how can we expect to change anything sitting on our hind ends. I am a firm believer that prayer will change anything. I went to a revival in Muncie last month with a friend and their family. At this revival, I was skeptical as I saw what you see on those so-called healing shows. I saw a man laying his hands on people and they would fall back to the floor, apparently because the Holy Spirit had entered them to heal and save them. Towards the end of the evening, I found myself convicted by the Holy Spirit to go forward, so I did. As I got to the front, I was asked what I needed help with, and so I said that I needed help with my future. As the healer laid his hands on me, I fell back in awe of the power of the spirit and felt a fire burning in me, healing me in whatever ways I needed, and also a voice reassuring me that the future would be fine, and I was to be destined for great things. I can honestly say that no longer am I skeptical of these healings that you see on TV.
God, through his spirit had told me things and I am to be a great leader. God is still in control despite the illusion that the media and the government are setting for themselves and those around. This nation will be a proud nation again, but it will take all of us to do it. If we all unite in prayer for this nation and pray like we mean it, then God will heal this land and forgive us of sins of leaving and forgetting him. God said in 2 Chronicles 7:14-15 that:
“ 14if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn away from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 15Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.”
Our Country has never been one to go into war with fear that we would lose. We have been in a great civil war, a revolution, 2 world wars, Korea, Vietnam, and the Persian Gulf. However, we are now afraid and some are even unaware, that we are in the midst of a war that has raged since the beginning of time. We are losing this war and we need troops and when they rally together we will all sing “Onward, Christian Soldiers.” I am a soldier as is everyone is this world. I pray that you accept your position and help change this war to our advantage. God will be with on this journey and on the battlefield, he said he would never leave us, and he never will. We must be the ones who take up the armor of God and fight this war. If we try without him, we will fail.
We (Christians) are persecuted and even killed every day every day for our faith and devotion to God. When I was still in school at South Adams, we had an accountability group that met every morning at 6:00 in the morning. Because we were a threat, as some called us, we were disbanded and not allowed to talk of our faith in school under penalty of Saturday School or worse. We could not agree to this, so we did it in secret, but still under their noses. (If time share about ISP officer that was suspended and thrown off the force for not taking riverboat position) This is the kind of war we face, brother against brother, friend against friend, and even parent against child. Maybe you have no idea what it’s like to be persecuted and maybe you do. It’s time to lift our voices and fight for our Lord Jesus Christ and bring America back to God.
The song I shared with you said in that:
“Our fathers built this land on the foundation of the Word. They gave their lives for truth and liberty. Yet today there’s something missing, we’ve pushed aside God’s Word…. The Banner’s torn and tattered beneath a cloud of sin, and it’s time we took America back to the cross again.”
I want to give you a challenge to love one another, stand together, and fight this war no matter what the cost. This is the only way to win the war, by prayer, unity, and going back to him. And don’t be afraid of death in this war after all, Jesus did say, whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. So go out and fight the good fight!
