One Life To Live

Summary: This sermon tackles the question how we should live the only life we have. It reminds that amid the busyness, we should not squander the gift of life.
Good morning, brothers and sisters.
Today, I want to talk to you about a profound truth that each of us knows deep down but often forgets in the busyness of life: we have only one life to live. This life is a gift from God, a sacred journey filled with purpose, opportunities, and responsibilities.
How we choose to live this life matters—not just for today, but for eternity.
1. The Gift of Life
Life is a precious gift from God. In Genesis 2:7, we read, "Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being."
Each breath we take is a reminder of God's grace and His divine intention for our existence. We are not here by accident; we are here by design.
Yet, how often do we take this gift for granted? We get caught up in the routines, the struggles, and the distractions, forgetting that every moment is an opportunity to glorify God and make a difference in the world.
The psalmist reminds us to "number our days," to live with intentionality and gratitude, recognizing that our time on earth is limited.
2. Living with Purpose
God has created each of us with a unique purpose. Ephesians 2:10 says, "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
Your life is not a random series of events; it is a divine masterpiece, woven together by the hands of a loving Creator.
What is your purpose?
It may be to serve others, to share the love of Christ, to use your talents for His glory, or to raise a family that honors Him. Whatever it is, don’t waste it. Don’t let fear, doubt, or the opinions of others hold you back.
Live boldly, knowing that God has equipped you for every good work He has called you to do.
3. Making Every Moment Count
Time is one of the most valuable resources we have, yet it is also the most easily wasted. James 4:14 warns us, "Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes."
Our lives are fleeting, like a vapor, here today and gone tomorrow.
So, how are you spending your time? Are you investing in things that have eternal significance, or are you chasing after things that will fade away?
Let us prioritize what truly matters—our relationship with God, our love for others, and our commitment to His kingdom.
4. Leaving a Legacy
When your time on earth comes to an end, what will you leave behind?
A legacy is not about wealth, fame, or accomplishments; it’s about the impact you’ve had on the lives of others. It’s about the seeds of faith, hope, and love you’ve planted in the hearts of those around you.
In John 15:16, Jesus says, "You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last."
Let us strive to bear fruit that will last, to leave a legacy that points others to Christ and His redeeming love.
Conclusion
Brothers and sisters, we have one life to live. Let us live it with purpose, passion, and gratitude. Let us make every moment count, investing in what truly matters and leaving a legacy that honors God. And let us remember that this life is not the end; it is merely the beginning of an eternal journey with our Savior.
As we go forth today, let us pray for wisdom to number our days, for courage to fulfill our purpose, and for faith to trust in God’s perfect plan. May we live this one life well, for His glory and for the good of others.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of life. Teach us to number our days and to live with intentionality and purpose. Help us to make every moment count, to love deeply, and to leave a legacy that brings honor to Your name. Guide us in Your will, and may our lives reflect Your love and grace. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
