Summary: Sermon prepared for our All Nations Sunday.
Title: One House for All Nations
Text: Isaiah 56:7 — “My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.”
1. God’s Heart Has Always Been for All Nations
• From the very beginning, God’s heart was not just for one people but for all people.
• When God called Abraham, He said:
“Through you all nations of the earth will be blessed.” (Genesis 12:3)
• That promise was not just about land or descendants.
• It was about a family of faith—people from every tribe, language, and nation who would know the one true God.
• God’s dream has always been one house, one family, one table, and one Spirit.
2. Babel: When Pride Divided the Nations
• But humanity had another plan.
• In Genesis 11, people came together to build a tower in Babel.
• They said, “Let us make a name for ourselves.”
• They wanted unity without God.
• So God confused their language and scattered them across the earth.
• At Babel, one language became many.
• The result was confusion, division, and distance.
• Nations were formed—but separated from God and from one another.
3. Abraham: God’s Promise to Reunite the Nations
• Right after Babel, in Genesis 12, God called Abraham.
• God’s plan of redemption began again—not through power or pride, but through faith.
• God said, “I will bless you… and through you all families of the earth will be blessed.”
• This is the gospel in seed form.
• God’s blessing would one day reach every nation through a promised Son—Jesus Christ.
4. Pentecost: The Reversal of Babel
• When Jesus died and rose again, He told His disciples to wait in Jerusalem.
• On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came like a mighty wind.
• People from many nations were in the city.
• They heard the disciples speak—in their own languages!
• What was divided at Babel was united at Pentecost.
• At Babel, languages brought confusion.
• At Pentecost, languages brought understanding.
• The Holy Spirit made one family out of many nations.
• The Church was born that day—a house of prayer for all nations.
5. The Spirit Is the Fulfillment of Abraham’s Blessing
• In Galatians 3:14, Paul writes:
“He redeemed us so that the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.”
• The promise to Abraham is fulfilled in Jesus—and given to us through the Holy Spirit.
• Every time the Spirit fills a person, that’s God’s promise to Abraham being fulfilled again!
• The Holy Spirit makes us one body, one family, one Church.
• It doesn’t matter what language we speak or what color our skin is—we are all temples of the same Spirit.
6. The Church: God’s House for All Nations
• Isaiah said, “My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.”
• When Jesus quoted that verse in the Temple, He reminded us that God’s heart is open to everyone.
• The Church is not for one culture, one country, or one kind of person.
• The Church is for every nation under heaven.
• In Christ, the walls are torn down.
• We stand shoulder to shoulder—brothers and sisters, one family.
• When we worship together, we are tasting heaven—where every nation, tribe, and tongue will sing to the Lamb.
7. Closing Appeal: One Spirit, One Family, One Mission
• God’s mission is not complete until all nations hear His name.
• The Holy Spirit still calls us to be a house of prayer for all nations.
• Let’s open our hearts to others.
• Let’s welcome the stranger, love the outsider, and pray for the nations.
• Let’s let the Holy Spirit fill us again—so that what began at Pentecost continues in us today.
“After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne.” (Revelation 7:9)
That is the end of the story—and the goal of our faith.
From Babel to Pentecost to Heaven, God is building one house for all nations.
