Summary: Your speech reveals whether your heart has been changed by the Word.

How Can I change??

II. Importance of the Word in James 1

A. 1:18 “brought forth by the Word of Truth”

B. 1:21 “Receive with meekness the Implanted Word”

C. 1:22 “be Doers of the word”

D. 1:23 “a hearer is like a man who forgets what he looks like”

1. The WORD allows us to see ourselves for who we really are.

2. Someone who LISTENS to the WORD is like the person who forgets what he looks like in the mirror

3. Charles Spurgeon once told of sitting in a nice restaurant. As he ate he kept noticing a rather angry looking man across the dining room who scowled at him every time he looked his way. Finally Spurgeon decided to go over and speak to the man to see what his problem was. However, as he stood he realized that what he had been seeing was his own reflection in mirrors that lined the walls across the room. We may not always like what we see in the mirror of God’s Word but what we see there is always the truth and always the best!

E. 1:24 “”Law of Liberty”

1. The Word results in Liberty

2. The Word results in Blessing

F. This passage on WORDS is encapsulated in James teaching about OBEDIENCE to God’s Word

III. How does GOD’S WORD Change MY WORDS?

A. Know that you are destined for something Great. This destiny to greatness started when God Saved me.

1. James 1:18 "Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures."

2. 1 Peter 1:23 "since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God;"

3. 1 Peter 2:1 "So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander."

B. Come to God’s Word for INSPIRATION, not INFORMATION (James 1:22)

C. Define everything according to God’s Word

1. Last week we spoke about BRUTAL HONESTY

2. Humble yourself enough to ask someone who truly loves you and who loves God to help you see the things in your life that need to change.

D. Make a Commitment that for the next week, I am not going to do anything significant until I have opened my Bible!
