Summary: Are we demanding signs? Do we allow fleshly, carnal desires to define our expectations. Do I focus on external materialism to define what I am expecting? Do we desire spiritual healthy expectations?

NOT WHAT I EXPECTED?

By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com (YouTube: Wade Hughes)

EXPECT: eager anticipation, probable to occur, to wait on something, think or believe that something is going to happen, anticipate, look forward, to hope, requires faith.

WANT: to desire, wish for, to feel the need, demand, crave.

Seems the human idea of want is physical, carnal, economic or GIVE ME. The prodigal son left home demanding GIVE ME, GIVE ME… He came home with a different attitude: MAKE ME… FATHER I SUBMIT TO YOUR PLAN.

EXPECTATION: I WENT TO NASHVILLE TO MAKE A HOSPITAL VISIT.

Vanderbilt Hospital lays over several blocks. I made my visit and went downtown to walk through Gruhn’s Vintage Guitar Store. I walked around downtown. I got in the car and thought, I am so hungry. I saw a McDonald’s and stopped. They had a special deal, two cheeseburgers, fries and a small drink. So I ordered and set my order on a table and I went in to wash my hands. When I came out a STREET PERSON was sitting at my table. He was eating one of my cheeseburgers and fries. I sat down across from him and started eating my other cheeseburger and my drink. He looked mean at me. I just kept eating and stared back at him. The nerve of him eating my food! We never said a word. He finished his cheeseburger and fries. He got up and left looking at me like I was strange. He never said a word. He never even said THANK YOU!

He had been gone a few minutes. I finished my cheeseburger and drink. I looked up and on the table that was behind the man I saw two cheeseburgers, fries and a drink. Then I realized the street person was not eating my food. I was eating his food. On the other table sat my cheeseburger, fries and drink untouched. I felt so bad. I jumped up and ran to the door looking for the poor street person that I had stolen his cheeseburger. He was gone. I did not see him. He probably ran to get away from that strange man? I was going to give him some money?

I EXPECTED SOMETHING! I DESERVE A BREAK TODAY!

I stopped in our local McDonald’s and I ordered a Big Mac Deal. After a long wait I got cold French fries and my Big Mac. “Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun.” Tell me tell the rest of the story. My Big Mac had the 3 pieces of bread, the special sauce, the lettuce, cheese, and pickles on a sesame seed bun. There was one problem: NO ONE PUT THE TWO BEEF PATTIES on my Big Mac. I went back to the counter and showed the lady my deficient Big Mac. I asked “WHERE IS THE BEEF?” The lady asked me what had I HAD DONE WITH MY BEEF PATTIES? I said: HONEY, I NEVER GOT THEM? She asked me if I had ate them? I said: SOMEONE FORGOT TO PUT THE MEAT ON MY BUN. I THOUGHT: I DESERVE A BREAK TODAY --- I AM NOT GETTING ONE.

EXPECT? REQUIRE? ASK, SEEK AND KNOCK? WHAT DO YOU WANT? SEEKING SIGNS? ARE WE EXPECTING SIGNS?

1 Corinthians 1:22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:

Mark 8:11 And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him. 12 And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.

EXPECTATION: THE WORLD SEARCHES FOR A CIRCUS/ENTERTAINMENT ATMOSPHERE! WHAT ARE WE EXPECTING? SEEMS EVERYONE LOVED THE FREE FISH, THE FREE BREAD, WATCHING THE DEMONIC DELIVERANCE AND THE HEALINGS OF THE BLIND AND CRIPPLES… THE EXPECTATION WAS GREAT: SHOW US THE SIGNS… WE EXPECT SMOOTH TALK AND EASY DOWN HILL JOURNEY’S.

John 6:55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. 58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever. 59 These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum. 60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? 61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?
